The following morning, Elisha and I woke up late. It took me a while to fall asleep again after waking up last night. I was tired and sore, but I could not rest my eyes. “Ugh!” I rubbed my face with my hands, scratching my nest-like hair. “Pffff…”
“Hey…You okay?” Elisha asked as I sat still in bed. She was already done showering and putting on her maternity dress. “You can rest, girl. I just prepped myself so I can start knitting today.”
“Yes, I’m great. I just got my period,” I puffed.
Elisha snorted, sitting on the couch with her knitting tools. “I missed having mine!”
I chuckled. “Oh, yeah! You’ve been very naughty. That’s why you missed it!”
Elisha laughed while rubbing her tummy. “Well, I am happy having them here, though. Right, babies?” she asked, smiling at her bump, “God-mommy Sophie can’t wait to see you too!”
“Aww! Yes! I can’t wait to meet my babies…” I said in awe, looking at Elisha and rubbing my tummy. It was great that I got my period, or I’d be panicking now. “I’m hungry. Aren’t you?” I asked Elisha as I got up from bed.
“Yes, we missed breakfast. But, go ahead, I’ll wait for you.” Elisha replied as she started knitting her new project.
“Nah, I’ll just go to the toilet, and we will go soon,” I yawned, stretching my sore muscles. “By the way, any news about Kyle?” I asked, picking up my phone to see if Sammy had messaged me. To my dismay, I didn’t see his name on the screen.
Elisha shrugged her shoulders. “I couldn’t care less.”
“Oh, whatever!” I chuckled, getting inside the bathroom to do my business.
I sat on the toilet bowl and began checking my phone. The person who sent me a message, whom I assumed was Demi, didn’t reply to my last text. Sawyer, Mika, and Layla asked how I was. Plus, the latter invited me and Elisha for lunch. I sighed in relief upon opening all the texts. Chase didn’t bother me. However, I felt terrible for not having any from Sammy. “You mad? I’m mad too!” I snorted, thinking how badly he treated me last night.
Once I was done in the bathroom, Elisha and I went downstairs for breakfast. The whole family was almost done eating and ready to leave.
“Hey, ladies! Dig in!” It was Sam, looking radiantly in love with her smile. She looked happy as she sat with Tom and Gideon at the table. Sammy’s chair and table were empty, which meant he wouldn’t join us.
“Sophie! Elisha! Good morning!” Tom greeted us. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw Gideon clinging to his arms as they sat at the breakfast table.
“Hey, guys! Gideon! Good morning!” I greeted them back.
“Ishaaaa! Phie-phie!” Gideon cheerfully beamed at us.
“Oh, wow!” Elisha gasped as she noticed Gideon sitting and eating on his dad’s lap. “Dion? Why aren’t you sitting on your high chair?” she laughed.
“Isha!” Gideon giggled, hugging his dad. I’d say Gideon looked more like Tom, especially with his hair. The little boy got his dad’s features but looked like Sammy or Sam when he smiled.
“I was about to say the same thing,” I chuckled, pulling Elisha’s chair to help her sit. “He’s now a daddy’s boy!” I said before sitting next to her.
“Oh, he never left his dad’s side,” Sam answered, shaking her head. “I feel left out now…” she puckered, looking at Tom and Gideon.
“I love Daddy Tom-Tom!” Gideon chimed in, making us laugh. “I love Mommy too!” he added.
“Of course, you do, my love.” Elisha smiled.
“Where are they? Sammy?” I casually asked the obvious.
“He left early with Mom and Dad to check on Kyle.” Sam answered, “We will see him too before heading to Philly. I wanted to tour Tom and visit the firms,” she added.
“Sweet!” I smiled. I glanced at Elisha and saw her enjoying her breakfast. She seemed not to mind us.
We all continued eating our breakfast between talking and catching up. Tom said he would stay in the States for good and leave everything he had in Europe for Sam and Gideon. I was in awe and almost cried when I heard it. He wanted to be with his family and where Sam and Gideon were. Sam also mentioned that I would see their offices soon, and she couldn’t wait to work with me.
“Oh, I just received a message from Sammy,” Sam chimed in while waiting for Gideon and Tom to get ready.
My eyes gaped in excitement upon hearing her. “Oh…what did he say?” I nosily asked.
Sam smiled and looked at me and Elisha. “Kyle has to stay for another night. Max hurt him badly. I don’t blame him, you know.” She snorted before looking at Elisha, “I want to know the story, love. Max saved you, and he was just true to his promises.”
Elisha nodded.“Yes. Is he okay, though?” she finally asked.
“He’ll be okay, love. Please don’t stress. Sammy said it's for further testing so that he could rest totally,” Sam answered.
“Okay…” Elisha mumbled. My dearest friend seemed calm, but I knew she was anxious about Kyle.
“Yes, Sammy will take care of his brother.” I seconded. I trusted Sammy’s abilities, even though he was being snappy to me.
A while later, Tom and Gideon went and set out to leave the mansion with Sam.
“See you tomorrow, Isha! Phie-Phie!” Gideon happily bade, still clinging to his dad’s arms.
“Bye, Didion!” Elisha and I waved and blew him kisses. As soon as they left, we got inside to eat some more.
“El, Layla sent me a message,” I said.
“What did she say?”
“She’s inviting us for lunch.”
“Oh, sure!”
I smiled after telling Layla we would see her. “I just said yes.” I put my phone down, but not without rechecking my inbox.
“Sweet! When are you going to start working again?” Elisha then asked.
“Sam said on Monday! We will be back in NJ this weekend, right?” I answered.
“Yes. I will also start knitting too.”
“Great!”
“Ladies…” It was Yelena walking from the kitchen.
“Hey, Yelena,” Elisha smiled at her.
“I overheard you, ladies, driving to the city,” Yelena said.
“Yup! We are going to meet Layla for lunch,” I nodded. “Oh, so please don’t bother to cook for us,”
“Alrighty, but I needed a little favor,” Yelena sat at the breakfast table with us.
“Sure,” We both agreed as we looked at each other.
Yelena nodded. “Kyle is going to stay for another day in the hospital, and he called me to ask if I could send his laptop and work bag to the hospital. Wilson is in New Jersey at the moment,” she said. Elisha and I silently looked at each other. “But it's okay if you don’t want to do it. I just thought about saving time,” she continued.
“Okay. That’s fine,” I quickly agreed, earning me a glare from Elisha. Sammy would be at the hospital, and I was pretty sure I would see him. “I’ll just drop it off to him, and then we can go,” I added, though I knew Elisha would hate me.
Elisha nodded, rolling her eyes at me. “Yeah.”
“Thanks, ladies!” Yelena smiled before leaving us.
Elisha glared at me. “You just want to see Sammy. Sneaky,” she muttered.
“Shut up!” I laughed. She was right, though.
Elisha narrowed her eyes. “It seems like you’re hiding something from me…”
“Huh?”
“You’re acting weird whenever you hear Sammy’s name…”
“Oh, come on!”
“Like your ears flap and eyes twinkle!”
“He's my crush! That's all!” I giggled.
Elisha puffed. “Yeah, sneaky Sophie. I can’t blame you. Been there, done that…” she shrugged before munching her apple.
I remained quiet and didn’t say anything more. I’d open up to Elisha once I was sure enough to trust Sammy.
After breakfast, we prepared to meet Layla for lunch and our short errand to the hospital. I looked at Elisha and saw her dolled up in her black coat, plaid skirt, grey sweater, and over-the-knee boots. Her pregnancy glow made her beautiful, but her dress choice didn't seem right with the weather outside. “Are you sure you’re going to wear that?” I snorted.
“What’s wrong with this?”
“It's freezing outside,” I answered, staring down at my black jeans, a white chunky knit sweater, white sneakers, and a black leather jacket.
“Are we going to eat outside?” Elisha arched her brow at me.
“No.”
“Then let me doll up,” Elisha scoffed, rubbing her bump.
“Fine. You look sexy,” I whistled.
“You too, sneaky Sophie.”
“Stop!” I giggled, but I kept my mouth shut. Once we were ready, we left our room and met Nana downstairs. She was adamant about letting us go, but Elisha and I assured her we would be okay.
“Nana…I’ll be okay… We will meet Layla for lunch. Then we will be back soon,” Elisha said.
“Okay. I thought about talking to you, but I’ll just save it for tonight,” Nana replied.
“Oh, Nana… Are you okay?”
Nana held my hand. “I am okay. I just want to speak with you about something….” The old lady said before smiling at me. I was suspicious of her actions.
“Oh, Nana… Is it important?” Elisha asked.
“Yes, but go ahead. I will just ask later.
“Sure, Nana.. anytime,”
“Drive safely, Sophie.” Nana hugged me tightly, “Say hello to Kyle for me,” she added, making me laugh.
“Yes, Nana!” I giggled.
“Oh, by the way, sweety. Did one of the visitors contact you yesterday?” Nana added.
“Why?” I asked.
“Oh, he said he’s one of your friends from high school. He wanted to speak with you, but you were busy, and he needed to leave early,” Nana answered, “So I gave it to him. His name is Don.”
I was taken aback, realizing it could be Chase or Demi. I didn't know any Don, or if it was Chase, I'd probably spot him right away. “Oh…okay…Nana, no, but it's okay.” Perhaps it was Demi who found a way to contact me.
Nana nodded. “I see. Maybe he will do it later.”
'She already did.'
