Chapter 30- Mysterious Lady

“Everything okay?” Layla asked me as soon as I joined her and Elisha. “I saw you talking with the guy earlier.” “Yes, I’m okay. Just some hot guy who happens to be conceited, too,” I puffed, clutching the shopping bags. “Chill! Are you on your period?” Layla snickered. “What happened?” Elisha chimed in. “I’ll tell you. Let’s go!” We walked away before I briefly told the ladies about the little encounter with the cocky man. Layla and Elisha burst out laughing after hearing my stories. “Did you know Sammy’s foot size is eighteen, and he’s thick?!” Layla wheezed. “Ah-uh!” I nodded “Wait! How did you know?” Elisha asked me, stopping us on our track. I went speechless and looked guiltily at the two. “Sophie?! You’re not being honest!” Layla was in awe. “Sophie! Tell me you’re lying! ” Elisha seconded. I muffled my mouth for a few seconds before cracking up. “Just kidding you, come on! I just made it up! He’s cocky! You know my mouth!” I fibbed, praying they would believe me. “Ugh! Of course!” Elisha rolled her eyes, snorting, “Of course, I know you!” Layla chuckled. “That was funny, though!” I sighed in relief, knowing the two trusted my words. I only exaggerated Sammy’s shoe size. I had no idea about his measurements, but he was well-endowed enough to be proud of and make me come over and over whenever I was riding him. ‘s**t…damn…’ I felt weird having these inner carnal thoughts. “What’s wrong?” I heard Elisha ask while strolling beside me, “You’re giggling alone, and you looked flushed!” She commented, scowling at me. “Yes, she is!” Layla added. “What?” I frowned, wincing. “No, I am not!” I denied it, though I knew why I was. “You don’t have a fever,” Elisha said, touching my forehead. “Oh, girls! You’re just hungry! Come on! Let’s eat!” I held Elisha’s hand and dragged her along with Layla. The two just laughed and stormed off with me to find a place to snack. Layla, Elisha, and I found a simple coffee and bakery restaurant downtown. It was close to a university, and it reminded us of our school days. We were in a pizza and coffee place like the one we had back in our hometown. The vibe and the menu were almost the same. I let the two order our food while I answered Erin’s call. The lady was sad and missing Abi. She would begin seeking work and consider moving to New Jersey to be closer to me. I was glad to hear it, though I told her they might give her a chance. Erin had been Abi's caregiver since she was six months old. Erin also informed me she was staying at our grandma’s house and using my bedroom. I didn’t mind her sleeping in my room. Our uncles installed security cameras and alarms in case someone tried to break into our house. A little while later, Sam messaged me and told me the name and place of the phone store. We were nearby, so I asked her to inform Venn that I would message him. I was about to go inside when I saw a familiar figure enter the restaurant, leaving her sweet vanilla scent behind. The tall lady was wearing dark glasses and a baseball cap. She seemed in a hurry and started looking around the place. ‘Mysterious lady,’ I said inwardly, getting in behind her. “Sophie! Here!” I heard Elisha’s familiar voice. She was waving at me. I smiled at her and sat opposite her. My eyes scoured around to find the girl, but I couldn’t see her. A little while later, our order arrived. “El,” I called El’s attention as I ate my food. “Yes, girl,” Elisha didn’t even look at me as she licked her ice cream like a kid. “Sam messaged me. She asked me to pick up something she ordered from a shop.” “Oh, sure. Is it nearby? Are they coming home soon?” “Yes, they are on their way back here. I just saw her message right now,” I replied. “Oh, are you guys going home soon?” Layla sadly asked. "Yes," El and I said as we looked at her. “Aww…I’m going to miss you, girls,” Layla grumbled. “It's okay. We will see each other on Tuesday, right?” Elisha sweetly said. “Yes! And please, come here often,” Layla smiled. “We will! Well, except for this knocked-up lady here. She won’t be able to travel that much in the next few months,” I teased Elisha, earning me a kick underneath the table. “Such a tease,” El grunted. I chuckled while playing footsie with Elisha. “Just kidding, El! But I will be joining Sam and Feliz’s firm. Sam said I could travel from time to time. From Philly to NJ to NY!” “Aww! I’m jealous!” Elisha snorted. “Aww…Once you gave birth, we would stay with you often!” Layla looked at me, “Right, Sophie?” “Absofreakinglutely!” “Thanks, girls!” Elisha cheerfully replied, then I noticed her sniffle, and seconds later, silent tears streamed from her eyes. “El! Are you crying?” I asked. “Oh, no…” She denied it, wiping off her tears. “Aww…El…You’re being hormonal, girl!” Layla chuckled, soothing the hormonal lady’s back. “I think she is now,” I seconded, “Scoot over, El,” I crawled under the table to join them. I snuck in to check on the mysterious long-haired lady. I didn’t realize she was seated three tables apart. “It's okay. We will be the best goddess-mom ever!” I stated while sticking my nose in others' business. “Thanks, girls…Yes, my situation is hard, but I can deal with it because you, girls, are here with me.” Elisha cried again before kissing my forehead. “Okay, enough drama. Let’s continue eating this food before we go for a short errand,” Layla said, breaking the hug. “Yes, wait, let me go back to my seat. Ouch!!” I bumped my head while crawling back, “That hurts!” I grumbled, wincing as I rubbed her head. “You now have reason to ask for Doctor Sammy’s help,” Elisha mocked me. “Shut up!” I rolled my eyes at them. However, I noticed the mysterious lady quickly glance at me with one brow arching. Silly that I was, I raised mine as well before snorting. The ladies and I continued chatting and laughing while snacking. We took a lot of selfies and photos together and made the most of our day out. After eating, we left the shop and headed inside the mall again. The shop was located inside. “What are we doing here?” Elisha asked me as we entered the famous shop. “Wait for a second here,” I went to the store’s counter and showed the staff the message from Sam. She smiled and nodded before walking with me to Elisha. She and Layla were roaming and checking the sample gadgets on the table. “El!” I called Elisha, holding three boxes of the latest iPhone. “Which color did you want?” I asked, showing it to her. “I love the dark one,” She casually answered before walking away and following Layla. “Hey! Where are you going?!” I laughed. “What? Checking and daydreaming about owning that laptop!” Elisha snorted while staring at the displayed gadget. I chuckled. My friend was oblivious that she was the reason we were there. “Which one?” “That! I would die for it!” Elisha pointed at the laptop, “I will need it once I go back to school, or something I could do as online work,” she added, rubbing her bump. I somehow felt pity for my friend. She was truly traumatized and desolate. Elisha could afford them with the money she had from her friend. However, she considered her babies’ needs before her own, as if a peasant had knocked her up. Her baby daddy was one of the wealthiest billionaires in the city. “Okay then!” I looked at the store staff. “So yeah, give her the latest and fastest version of that laptop, and we will take this iPhone,” holding the one she chose. Elisha and Layla turned around and looked at me with gaping eyes. “I thought we were getting something for Sam?” Elisha asked. “Yes, she wants you to have those. Those are her gifts,” I answered, “I mentioned that you have no phone at the moment, and since you liked that laptop, she also got it for you,” “No way! Are you for real?!” “I am!” “Wow, Elisha! Lucky you!” Layla happily said, hugging Elisha. “No…no… no….” Elisha shook her head in disbelief, “I can afford to buy a new phone, girl, but not now.” “Nope. She said you have to get it now. It's already paid,” I smirked. “No…Sam…no…Call her Sophie, I can’t... Elisha adamantly accepts the gifts. “Ask her,” I looked at the sales agent to verify with her about the purchases. “Yes, ma'am. The sales invoice was already sent to their account. We are just going to check the gadgets, and you are good to go and bring them home,” The lady confirmed. “Are you sure it's from Sam, though?” Layla skeptically asked, suspiciously staring at me. I was taken aback and didn’t think it could be Kyle’s gift, and Sam just said it was from her. “Kyle?” Elisha checked. I nodded. “Yes…yes. I mean Sam. She called me earlier about it. Gideon wanted to speak with you since yesterday. But since you have no phone, he couldn’t,” I explained, giving Sam the benefit of the doubt. It could really be from her. “Okay…I will accept it if it's from Sam, but not if it's from Kyle. I’m sorry, but no,” Elisha firmly declared, “I’m serious.” I smiled. “Yup, that’s Sam,” “Sweet,” Elisha beamed, though there was still doubt in her face. “Perfect! I’ll let her know you got it!” I giggled. “Actually, she will give me a new laptop, too, once I start working in her firm!” “Lucky ladies!” Layla smiled. Elisha’s smile went from ear to ear as she held the paper bag containing her gifts from Sam. I messaged Venn to pick us up from Layla’s place in the evening. We needed to get our things. “See you later, Layla,” Elisha hugged Layla. “See you on Tuesday,” Layla hoarsely said before looking at Elisha. “Take care of yourself, okay?” “Yes, doc.” I gave us a group hug and another selfie. “See you in two days, Layla.” “Yes! See you, and I can’t wait to see you in your safari hunter costume with Sammy!” Layla laughed. “Yes! I can’t wait to wear them!” I giggled. Goodbyes and Goodnights later, we hopped in the car, and Venn drove away. Venn said that everyone would be back around midnight. Sammy sent me a quick message saying he might stay home to get more rest, though he would be on-call. I felt blue thinking of him staying in his apartment. I missed talking and hanging out with him, even if it had been only two days since we were together. Once we reached the mansion, Elisha and I freshened up to check out her new gadgets. I messaged Sam, sending her the secretly snapped photos and videos of Elisha unboxing her gadgets. Sam was thankful and happy. “Oh, El…your body…You looked amazing in your bump,” I commented, looking at her glistening bare skin. Pregnancy truly changed her. Physically and mentally. She seemed mature and serious enough, not as bubbly and lively as before. “Well, I gained a few pounds now,” Elisha snorted. “Let’s use your phone to take photos of you!” I gigglingly suggested. “Woosh! That’s insane!” Elisha chuckled. “No! That will be added to your collection! See! I can picture your pose with that tiny bump!” “Ugh, Sophie!” “Come on, trust me! Your phone has the latest and fanciest camera!” Elisha rolled her eyes. “Fine! You've got the eye of a photographer! I trust you, but we need to keep it private!” “Of course!” I beamed wide, asking her to move and pose for the photo sesh. An hour later, we checked and looked at the images we had taken earlier. “Oh, God! That’s such a perfect image!” Elisha gasped, looking at her photo. Elisha was naked, leaning on the wall, while the shower water sprayed on her face and body. It was a dim shot, emphasizing her sexy pregnant figure and bump, not her nakedness. The light and the angle perfectly blended so that it looked intimate rather than bold. “I told you! We will do it every month from now on!” “Fine!” Elisha quickly agreed. It was indeed great to have mementos of her pregnancy journey. I laid down in bed and let Elisha explore her new gadgets while I checked our day-out photos on my phone. I had hundreds of them, and I started sorting and choosing which ones were best to keep and upload on my social media. I was in the middle of selecting the photos when I noticed the mysterious lady in one of our pictures. This time she was sitting opposite a man and seemingly talking with him. She wasn’t wearing her baseball cap anymore. I zoomed in on the photo and saw a brown shoe box on the table with a blue ribbon lace and a cute little bear on top. “Oh, maybe a gift,” I mumbled, swiping to the next photo. The package was already in the man's possession, and he appeared to be up and getting ready to leave. The two were gone in the last few images. “Whatever...” I murmured, deleting the image except for the familiar, mysterious lady. I was about to message Sammy and check on him when I heard Elisha call me. “Sophie…” “Yes,” “Give me my babies,” She said, looking at Bluey and Pinky. Her baby plush toys were her gifts on her first date with Kyle. I laughed, “So Kyle gave up custody of these two,” handing her the stuffed toys. Yes, maybe that’s why he has big and black under-eyes.” I remembered how Kyle didn't want to return it to El as it served as his comfort pillow when his conscience was killing him when he found that Elisha was gone. “I see,” I smirked, “But at least give him some time with them.” “No way!” “That’s funny, though.” “What made it funny?” I snorted. “They are like your twin babies.” “Oh, yeah…” Elisha agreed, staring at her pink and blue toy. She would have a baby boy and a baby girl in the next few months. “Anyway, let’s sleep and recharge. Goodnight, El. Good night, little ones”. I kissed her tummy, then turned my back to finish my interrupted business. “Good night, Sophie. Good night, babies. You smelled like your dad,” I heard Elisha murmuring, making me smile. “Okay, it's time to say goodnight too to my daddy,” I giggled, typing a message for Sammy. I needed to know what time he would be meeting Tom. I didn’t expect him to answer immediately, so I kept my phone away and turned the bedside table lamp off. I was about to close my eyes when I heard a faint knock on the door before it opened slightly. The shiny rim of eyeglasses slipping in with the lights from the outside already told me who it was. “Sammy?” I asked quietly. “My sweet Sophie... It was indeed Sammy. xx
