“Phie-phie, I mit you and Isha…” Gideon’s puckering lips indeed showed how he missed us. Almira called us because Gideon wanted to talk to Elisha before his bedtime. Elisha, Layla and I just got home from our drinks at the pub. We were now in bed, taking a rest after a shower.
“My Didion…” Elisha sniffled.
“Oh, Gideon…” I sadly said, “We miss you too... Don’t worry. We will have a great time on your birthday. It’s very soon!”
“Yes! Didion birthday!” Gideon cheered up on the screen.
I looked at Elisha and saw her wiping her teary eyes. She seemed emotional and hormonal again. “You okay?” I asked.
Elisha smiled at me and nodded, “Yeah. I just miss the boy,” she added before looking at the screen again. “I will see you soon, my love. It’s time for you to sleep, Dion,” she added.
Gideon yawned and looked at Almira, who was sitting beside him. “Mira…Dion sleep….”
Almira chuckled, “Go on…sleep now, baby boy,” She gave him bottled milk and patted his side. A little while later, Gideon finally fell asleep. “Thank you, ladies! He had a great time today with his daddy Ky and was only fighting off sleep so he could talk to you,” she hushed, looking at the camera.
Elisha and I snickered. “I’m glad to know he’s okay and enjoying his time with Sam and Kyle,” I commented.
“Yes! The twins are having a drink with an old friend on the balcony,” Almira shared.
“Awesome! I hope the party last night went well,” I said.
Yet, I noticed Almira’s face scrunched as if she wanted to say something. “Not really, but I’ll let Sam tell you about the tea!”
Elisha and I looked at each other. “Oh, juicy!” she snorted.
Almira wiggled her brows, “Oh, it's very spicy, and I guess that’s why Samantha had been binge-drinking her favorite wine!” she added before shushing her finger over her lips.
“For real?!” I gasped.
Almira winked. “I heard her crying and talking with Sammy before her dinner date. But I don’t know the complete details.”
“I’ll ask Sammy then,” I smirked.
“Please do!” Elisha excitedly agreed.
More gossip and chitchat later, we bade goodnight to Almira. Elisha and I lay in bed and thought about the highlights of our day. I wanted to share my predicaments with her, but I think it wasn’t the right time yet.
I checked my phone once more to see if there were any messages. A couple from Mikaela Ricaforte, one of my childhood friends, asked me when we could meet. She was in the city at the moment with her parents. I will be free on Monday before Gideon’s party.
I was about to go to sleep when my phone buzzed again. This time, it was Sammy. He sent me a couple of updates and texts earlier. He spent time studying after his shift and then woke up to prepare for his next hospital shift.
‘Hey, sweety… I know you had a hectic day with your friends. I want to let you know that I always care for you. I love our friendship and our closeness. Anyway, I hope the topical cream helped with your mosquito bites. LOL. Good night. Mosquito xx’
I burst out laughing after reading his flirty and naughty message. I glanced at Elisha, and luckily she was already snoring and asleep. Layla gave me a long, sullen look earlier when Elisha mentioned the marks on my skin. Fortunately, she didn’t say anything, though she wanted some explanation soon.
‘Goodnight, Mr. Mosquito!’ I typed, sending him an alluring selfie of mine before turning my phone off to sleep.
The following day, Elisha, Layla, and I woke up early to start our Sunday morning. Like yesterday, I let the two have a heart-to-heart talk while I prepared our breakfast.
I was in the middle of my task when my phone buzzed. I knew it wasn’t Sammy because he messaged me earlier and said that he had just arrived home and planned to sleep all day. He was indeed sweet and pleasant for telling me about it. He said he did it so I wouldn’t get worried if he didn't ever answer my call.
I thought it was Erin, but I was wrong. “Sam…” I mumbled, turning off the stove and going outside to the balcony. “Hey!” I answered her.
“Sophie, darling! Guten Morgen!” Sam greeted me on the phone. She was in bed with Gideon. The little boy was sitting and cuddling on her lap.
“Sam! Good morning! And Gideon, my love! How are you?” I answered back with a smile on my face.
“Phie-phie!” Gideon smiled and waved his hand, “Where Isha?”
“Oh, Isha is inside the room and talking with Layla,” I answered. “How are you guys?”
“We are good! Just preparing for our swimming lesson. Sammy wanted him to learn how to swim. Doc My-My said it would help Gideon’s lungs,” Sam answered, rubbing the sleepy boy’s back.
“That’s so sweet of him,” I smiled. Sammy truly loved caring for the people in his life.
“Yes…anyway…I am glad that you said Elisha was inside the room. I wanted to ask you a favor.”
“Tell me about it!”
Sam smiled. “Sammy…He mentioned that Elisha had returned her phone to her friend. My brother wanted to gift her one, but you said Elisha wouldn't accept it.”
“Yes…But I just made it up.” I winced. “I planned to give her one soon. I still have some cash to buy her a new phone.”
“Oh, my love,” Sam chuckled, “But please do me another favor, Sophie. Save that money for your future.”
“Samantha…”
“Please. I will give you the details on how to get Elisha a new phone and laptop. I would love to gift you one too, but our office gives all employees brand-new laptops. You’ll be working with us soon, and you will have your own,” Sam stated, surprising me.
“Oh, Sam! No way!” I was wordless.
“Yes, so let me know when you ladies are going home. I will inform Venn to send you to our partners’ place to get the products. Is that okay?” Sam asked.
I nodded, my shock still etched on my face. “Okay! That’s cool! Thank you, boss!” I happily said, making Sam laugh.
I chatted with Gideon while Sam was preparing their swimwears. We discussed the details of his birthday, and I planned to buy costumes and get more gifts and prizes for the games Sammy and I arranged on the day of the party. The little boy couldn’t wait to see Elisha and asked me twice about the babies. Sam ended the phone call when it was time for them to eat breakfast before dipping in the pool.
“Oh, God! I can't wait to see that f*cker’s face!” Layla grumbled as she and Elisha walked out of the room. I was already fixing the table and preparing the big breakfast. I knew she was as livid as I was when I learned the truth. I was sure Elisha also showed her my scandalous video when I assaulted Kyle in his office lobby.
“Go, Layla!” I laughingly butted in, “I have a checklist of people who have already colored Kyle’s face and body,”
“Count me in, Elisha! Is he coming to pick you up tonight?” Layla seriously asked.
“I’m not sure. But we are returning to the mansion tonight, right, Sophie?” Elisha asked me.
I nodded as I fixed the table. “Yup! After shopping for our clothes, we will buy stuff for Gideon’s birthday on Tuesday!” I answered, keeping mum about the gifts Sam had bought for her.
“Oh, yes!” Elisha agreed.
“Sam overlooked the date, but she said she was ready to give him a party,” I said, sharing the details Sammy and I arranged with them.
“Oh, Gideon. Sam’s son, right?” Layla asked Elisha.
“Tom’s son too.”
“Tom?”
“Yes, Tom. Elisha’s brother,” I answered.
Layla palmed her forehead. “Oh, sh*t! I missed it in the story. Yes...yes…I got it. Sorry! All I thought about was getting even with Kyle. I forgot the reason he did it. I wanted to smack his face after hearing your tale,” Layla scoffed.
Elisha laughed. “I hear you,”
Layla shook her head. “So yeah! It's his birthday! Did you know that the Owens are related to the Carlsons and Roberts? Remember the couple who helped us? Miles and Kathy?”
“Really?” Elisha and I said it in unison.
“Yes! Lark Owens and Mike Roberts are distant cousins. Mike is Miss Kathy’s dad,” Layla stated, “Carlsons-Roberts has shares in the pharmaceutical business Kyle is running. It’s a part of their company back in Switzerland,” she added.
“What a small world indeed!” Elisha gasped.
“What a connection!” I agreed. Actually, Jose already told me about Carlson’s. They owned one of the most prominent hotels on Florida beaches—such a big name even in the underworld business.
“Yes! I am pretty sure they will be invited to Gideon’s birthday,” Layla added.
“That’s for sure! This would be the first birthday Gideon wouldn't spend in the hospital. Sam said his first two birthdays were celebrated in the hospital since he was always sick and weak.” Elisha then shared Sam’s stories about Gideon and his connection with her brother.
“Aww, my poor Didion. He’s such a ball of fire now because of you, El,” I said, looking at Elisha. She helped Gideon recover from his sickness.
Elisha beamed wide. “Yes! He gained about a kilo of weight in a week!”
“Wow!” My eyes gaped. “I can’t wait to play with that little boy.”
“Why hasn’t Sam told Tom about him?” Layla butted.
“She’s not yet ready, and she thinks Tom isn't ready too. Sam said Tom hadn’t achieved all his dreams yet, and she was afraid they might hinder him from reaching his goals,” Elisha replied. Sammy mentioned it as well. I remember how he helped his sister during the darkest hour of her life.
“What?! That’s absurd,” Layla scoffed.
“I know…”
“Has she moved on?”
“She said she has, but I doubt it.”
“Ugh! Strange…”
“Yes. That’s strange indeed,” I seconded. Sammy thought the same thing. “Well, she must know your brother well.”
“Why don’t you tell your brother,” Layla asked.
“I know. I promised Sam to give it more time. If Tom is into Sam right now, especially since they have opened up their communication, he would know right away,” Elisha answered.
“Ugh! Your brother is an idiót!” I snorted, puffing. “He already saw Gideon once when you were face-timing him! Didn’t he feel it? I bet he knows Sam has a child now. And it is his freaking child!” That was my hunch, and Sammy thought maybe Tom was wondering about Gideon now.
“I know, right? But it's their life. Tom will hate me for keeping it, but who knows?” Elisha shrugged her shoulders. “Let’s just wait and see.”
“I hear you, girl. Only time will tell. Just like forgiveness,” Layla mumbled.
“Amen to that,” I snorted.
“Yes, just like forgiveness,” Elisha sadly stared at me while rubbing her bump.
We started eating and chatted for more. I still hesitated to tell the ladies about Chase. Still, when Elisha asked me about my trip to Florida, I shared my great experiences and adventures with Erin and the Laurier family’s helpers and household. I'd keep the sad stories for now. The two had just gotten out of their own troubles, and hearing mine might screw up our happy bonding moments.
Layla and Elisha were washing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen when I took my time to freshen up. I was putting on my dress when my phone rang. It was Sammy.
“Hey, did you get enough rest?” I immediately asked before putting my phone on the vanity table to put my makeup on.
“Yes, my beautiful sweety,” Sammy replied, “Are you alone?”
“Yes! You miss me again? You want some nudes?” I kiddingly asked.
“Yes, please…”
“Just kidding! Leave me alone, mosquito!”
Sammy laughed. “Anyway, I need to share this with you.”
“Oh…Are you okay?” I checked on him on the screen. He looked fine but seemed edgy.
“I am…”
“Spill!” I smiled before going back to my glamouring-up business.
“Tom called me.”
My eyes saucered as I looked back again at him. “Who called you?”
“Tom. He received an invitation from Kyle, but he didn’t trust him. Something happened last Friday night at the party, and now he wants some answers.”
“Oh, my word!”
“Interesting, right?”
“Yes! Did you talk to him?”
Sammy nodded. “We are going to talk tomorrow morning via video call. But please don’t let anyone know, even Elisha,” he added.
“Of course. My mouth is tight,” I declared, gesturing with my fingers zipping on my lips.
“I want them open when we meet tomorrow,” Sammy smirked before pursing his lower lip. He looked sexier whenever he did that.
My mouth formed a silly O before I fake coughed. “Really?” I winked, leveling up my flirting 101.
“Yes,” Sammy giggled, putting and rubbing his two sizeable fingers on his chin.
“Damn it! We need to stop this!” I kiddingly hissed before glancing at the door to check if Elisha and Layla were nosily listening. “I need to meet Mika tomorrow too.”
“Let’s touch base, sweety. I can’t wait to see you tomorrow. I’ll send you my door key pass.”
“Me too! I need to hear what happened last Friday! I need the details, mosquito man!”
Sammy laughed. “Yes, I will tell you everything as long as you tell me about Chase. You promised me.”
I was dumbfounded, but I kept my cool and calm. “Sure, I will,” I agreed, inhaling a deep breath as I thought about the dreadful moment.
