CHAPTER EIGHTLilliana felt as if she was living in a gilded cage. Lord Farringdon was a very generous man and she did not lack for material things. He bought her many presents – small trinkets and baubles. He had excellent taste and she had to admit that, if they had been from anyone else, she would have been thrilled. Deep down, he was not an unkind man, but he was very selfish and Lilliana soon realised that his generosity depended upon how she conducted herself towards him.
