CHAPTER 17 - Team Marcus

1258 Words
Simone POV   I originally wanted to sit beside Mandy in the class, but Noah quickly took my chair. “Noah, what are you doing in my chair?” I asked irritably. He really likes to take my chair. He was about to say something when Marcus suddenly pulled me to sit beside him. “Just let them be, will you? You can sit with me,” he said with an amused tone. I looked at Mandy, but she seems to enjoy Noah’s company more than me. I let out a defeated sigh as I saw Mrs. Smith came into the class. She roamed her eyes across the room, throwing us a glare from behind her cat eyeglasses. Soon her lips formed a smile after her eyes landed on Marcus. “Mr. Cooper, thank you for joining the class today.” I rolled back my eyes. I think this is the first time I saw her actually smiling at other people, and it’s kinda freaky. “Why are you sitting on the back? Please sit here.” She motioned the empty chair not far away in front of her. My heart jumped in joy. Finally, someone can save me from this infuriating man. “I’m sorry, Mrs. Smith. But I still haven’t got a chance to buy a book. So I have to sit next to Ms. Johnson since I will be sharing the book with her.” What a sneaky bastard! He curved a playful smirk at me. Mrs. Smith found that reason a little bit absurd, but she finally gave up on him and decided to continue with the class. I heard Mandy and Noah giggled from their seat near the window. They were all conspiring against me. ********************************* The week went pretty fast. Tomorrow we were going to the homecoming party. Mandy will come with Noah, as I expected. They got so close almost instantly. I wonder, is it all just an act? I will never forgive Noah if he dares to broke her heart. Mandy is my best friend, and she has a pure heart. I was shocked to see Marcus in front of me as I closed my locker. “Marcus… you startled me!” I snarled at him. He let out a hearty laugh. “Want to grab lunch together?” he said with a tempting smile. “Can I say no?” I replied ignorantly. “You’re funny, Simone. Nobody says no to me.” He said cockily as he put his hands over my shoulder, leading me out to the cafeteria. After we filled our tray with food, we both took a seat together with Noah and Mandy. I saw a few girls whispering. They must be spreading some nasty rumors about us. Ever since Noah tries to make a move on Mandy, the four of us were like the hottest couple in the school. They were all envious that we both got the cutest guy at school. I saw Mandy transferring some of the food from her plate to Noah’s, which he gladly accepted. “Marcus, is he going to date her or just playing around?” I asked, whispering at him. “I don’t know…What do you think? Noah is pretty popular among the girls and the second-best fighter in our pack. He’s a great catch for Mandy.”  I widened my eyes. “Then why did you set him up with Mandy? She’s innocent and certainly not ready to get heartbroken.” I said as I saw Noah wiping ketchup from Mandy’s lips. She was blushing. This seriously has to stop. “I never set him up… He was the one who got interested in Mandy ever since we moved here.” Marcus said, shrugging his shoulder.  My eyes suddenly wandered to the back, and I saw Avery passed by. She still has that mark that I left on her face. I assume it would take a weak to fully recovered. Until now, I still haven’t figured out who is the person who ruined my shirt in the locker. “Is something bothering you?” Marcus suddenly asked. He must’ve realized that my eyes were fixed on Avery. “Marcus, I’ve made a mistake… Do you still remember when someone ripped my shirt last time? I thought it was Avery, but she said it wasn’t her.” I told him. He furrowed his eyebrow. “How can you be so sure it wasn’t her?” he asked me back. “I’ve kind of pushed her to confess…I even left a scar on her face. Did you see it? I think she wouldn’t dare to lie in that situation.” He looked surprised at first, but then he quickly gained back his composure. “Do you want me to look into it?” He suddenly asked again. He sounded a little bit worried. “Nah…I don’t think it’s necessary. Maybe if that person harassed me again, I might have a chance to catch her in action.” I said, assuring him. “Okay, but make sure you told me if that happens again. I won’t let anybody hurt you, Simone.” He said as he caressed my cheek. I was a strong woman and a warrior that were more than capable of protecting myself. But why did he kept belittle me? Even from his small gesture, he would always put his arms around me every time we walked together as if he wanted to protect me from all the bad things that might happen.      “I’ll pick you up tonight at 7,” Marcus said as I got off of his car. He insisted on driving me back today. “I think I will hear a wedding bell soon…” Oliver teased as I walked into my house. I throw an annoyed glare at him. “Don’t you have better things to do than bullying me?” I walked past him, and I only heard his laughter from behind. I sighed. Why can’t I have a normal brother like the other? I finally finished the long preparation for tonight’s event. Luckily, I have Cecilia to help me. It’s not like I want to be the homecoming queen or something. I just wanted to look good tonight. I wore a dusty pink midi dress. It was cute and classy at the same time. I keep it simple with the makeup since I don’t want to look older than my actual age. “You look beautiful. I wonder how it feels like to come to those kinds of events.” Cecilia said with awe. I turned around, facing her. “Cecilia, I wanted to bring you with me tonight. But it was only opened for the students.” I said disappointingly.  “It’s okay, Simone. I have attended many of your family party, and maybe soon your wedding…” she said, teasing me. Great, now she’s also on the Marcus team. “Simone, I think your prince charming is coming. He’s here!” Cecilia jumped with excitement as she looked at him from the balcony. I just hope tonight can go well.
