Christian would come every day with his friends to help them with renovation; he also brought her the admission form and offered to give her a tour of her new high school. The castle was huge and many parts were locked permanently, even Evaleen couldn’t get in easily. Camilla interjected and asked the kids to let it be. Evaleen’s curiosity was piqued once again and she was not ready to let it go. Christian was telling her about the cafes around the town where she could hang out.
“My sister is also going to start her high school this year as well and she has many classes the same as yours,” Christian stated. Evaleen hummed absent-mindedly. “Okay, Evaleen what’s going on?”
“Huh? Nothing.” She replied to him.
“Really? I can see that something has been on your mind since this morning. You can tell me.” He assured her. Evaleen has known him for a couple of days but somewhere her feral and human form has come to accept his company. She felt the connection the very first day but she is acting oblivious to it. For the first time, she wants to acquaint her feral form with his wolf but doesn’t want to suggest it first as she is still acting like a human around him and even he hasn’t talked about his supernatural form.
“It’s nothing serious. As my grandmother said, this castle belonged to my parents and I don’t remember much about them.” She lied. She remembers everything. “There is a part in the castle that is sealed and no keys or force could open it and now my grams want me to stay away from it. I want to explore every part of my childhood and the remains of my parents.” She explained the details to him and suddenly frowned to herself at how easily she was able to share such personal things with him.
“I am pretty sure that she is doing this to protect you…” Evaleen was about to get mad at him asking him whose side was he on but he spoke almost immediately, “but as this castle belongs to your parents, you have all the right to know its secrets. I can help you with that but I need the confirmation that you will be ready to face whatever is in there.”
“Yes yes of course, can you open the door?” She got excited and sat up straight.
“I can try.”
They decided to meet after Camilla fell asleep. Evaleen returned after their little chat to her room and Christian’s car was parked near the castle in the dark. She remembered his heartbeat and could place him from miles away. His steady heartbeat was clear in the quiet night; she started to read a book written by Celestina to find out more about her. Evaleen was a very intuitive kid and she started to search for the real reason behind her parent’s death. She was told that a huge fire destroyed their kingdom but that was impossible due to her mother. Her mother was the daughter of seas and oceans, she protected Romulan with her calmness, and no fire could penetrate the boundaries. Gradually, she found out that her home, her people, and her family suffered the reciprocation of a deadly war of this world; but why them? They didn’t belong to the same world.
Celestina has published many books in which she wrote about her experience over the past 10 years. How she dealt with the changes across the world and everything related to it. Sometimes, Evaleen feels like Celestina is also a victim but again she remembers those horrible cries and screams of her friends and family, then that sympathy turns into anger. Camilla’s heartbeat became steady and Evaleen shut the book and texted Christian to come in. She opened the door in the backyard and let him in. Christian closed his eyes and focused on something.
“What’s wrong?” she asked him.
“Just making sure that the coast is clear.” Evaleen led the way to the sealed doors. They could only renovate the main area, the castle was huge and she would have to burn out all her trust fund and saving to renovate the place. She doesn’t want people to suspect so hasn’t used her magic yet. Evaleen has to satisfy herself with a little renovation. Thanks to Christian, he removed all the evidence of fire aka war.
“This is the door I was telling you about.” She started to push it again but it didn’t even vibrate. She handed him a bunch of keys, and Christian looked simultaneously between the key and the lock.
“Okay, first your mom and dad had a real taste for interior designing. This lock is out of the world, I mean look at the intricate pattern, and it seems to appear like a puzzle.” Of course, it’s out of the world; Evaleen thought to herself. “Evaleen, I don’t think any of these keys belong to this lock.” He handed the keys back to her. “Let me see what I can do. He first tried to use his strength and as expected that was unsuccessful. For a minute he fell into deep thought as if contemplating his next step. He kept on feeling the door as if trying to read the vibe. “What happened in Rome? What happened to your parents?” He asked, Evaleen, got anxious with the question.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” She replied flatly. Evaleen observed him closely without a word. He let out a sigh and again pressed his hands against the door.
“I am sorry,”
“No, it’s just a sore topic for me.” He started to push the door through the puzzle-looking lock. “That’s not gonna wo…” Her words stopped when she saw what he was doing. The doors started to rattle and the lock started to open like a knot but after a couple of seconds it stopped, and Christian was pushed back. Evaleen held him, and then she felt his effect for the first time with skin touch. His heartbeat increased as well from the contact. No! No! It can’t be. Evaleen kept on repeating this in her head. She shook her head and pulled her hand back. Christian kept on looking at the place where she touched him. “Are you ok?” She broke the trance.
