Whatever You Say, Alpha

“What is going on here?” Warren rushed to Kazmiyah and saw the dirt and scarring on her face as well as the healing arm. “What the heck happened to you?!” He said with concern. “It’s nothing, dad.” Kazmiyah lied but her father knew better. Especially, when he took in the condition of the town. Kazmiyah shamefully looked away. “Kaz?” He said, touching her shoulder. “What happened, teroso?” “I-” She sighed. “I blacked out.” She looked away from her father with embarrassment. “But your blackouts are usually rooted in anger so what made you so angry that you….” His question veered off its trail when he saw Roj standing there. “Roj?” He looked at him. Admittedly, he was glad to see the young Beta. “Hello, Alpha.” He greeted him with respect. He then looked past the Alpha Crescent and to his Beta, Bazni, and did a subtle bow as well to which Baz returned. “When Kazmiyah told us that something happened, we sent scouts out to find you but they had no luck.” Roj looked at Kazmiyah. “How did you know that Falcon was in trouble, Kaz?” “I’m connected to him.” She simply answered, not wanting to entail the fact that she had been marked by the Alpha as she honestly didn’t remember whether she even told him this yet or not. Warren looked at her suspiciously, brow raised. “Hm.” He said before returning his attention to the Beta. “Well, after they came back with no sign nor word of you, I decided to go out and look for myself and I found a pack that was being guarded and taught by some of your own. I take it, your Alpha has assumed leadership over them.” “Yes,” Roj replied. “They had no Alpha and their Beta and Delta were corrupt.” He informed. Warren nodded and placed his hand on Rojer’s shoulder. “It is good to see you, Beta Roj.” He said after a minute to take it in. “Where is your Alpha?” He asked. Roj dropped his head and shook it. “It’s not good, Alpha Crescent.” He replied. “Some...vampire got a hold of him.” “Well, surely, Falcon of the Navarre could handle a petty vampire.” “It wasn’t just any vampire, Alpha-not according to your new resident or Elder Varick.” Roj corrected. “What? Who was it?” Warren asked but Roj shook his head and looked at Kazmiyah and Godfrey. “It was Aurora Valentine’s grandmother,” Kazmiyah answered. “Bellarossa,” Godfrey replied. This news was quite disheartening, to say the least. “You can’t be serious!” Warren hissed. “Well, how is he?” “Fighting for his life,” Roj replied. “He has blood poisoning and the only way to get it out is through blood transfusion.” “Okay, well then do we have any matches?” He asked. Roj shook his head as Kazmiyah answered. “Only me.” She replied. Warren was a little confused about how that was even possible. “How is that even feasible, moroso?” He asked. “Your blood is-” “Universal, it seems, well, aside from other reasons.” She replied, noticing the curious expression on her father's face. Kazmiyah decided not to delve into the fact that because she was his true mate that her blood was a match Falcon's. “The only problem is that it is contaminated with the blood of another species entirely-” “Christoph.” Warren grimaced. “So what are you going to do about that?” He hissed, still angry at the cause of him losing so much. “Aurora Valentine is going to do a blood separation during the transfusion,” Kazmiyah replied. “When?” Kazmiyah sighed, shame creeping up again. “It was supposed to be today but-” “But? But what?” Warren curiously asked. “Apparently the sorceress has the power to stop a goddess of the moon from wreaking havoc,” Roj said. Warren incredulously looked at Kazmiyah. “You fought each other again?” He looked around. "Is that what happened around here?" “Wait-again?” Now it was Roj’s turn to look incredulous. “What-what do you mean again?” He asked, looking at Kazmiyah. “The first time, they destroyed Blood Haven’s property….and my truck,” Warren replied his glare still on Kazmiyah. “And the only reason that that was cut short was that Aurora started to transition at the beginning of it-” “Oh..wow,” Roj muttered. Warren sighed. “I’m...glad she had the power to stop you.” He said. “Though surprising as that may be.” He mumbled. He just couldn’t believe that it was possible. ‘“Is she alright?” He asked. “No more banged up than me,” Kazmiyah smirked. “She walked away from it if that’s what you’re asking,” Godfrey replied. “Now she’s checking in on Mrs. Linda.” He said. “What? Why-why is checking in on her? What happened? Is she alright?” He asked Kazmiyah. “I-I don’t know dad.” She said, tears streaming her eyes. “I-we got into an altercation about Alora and I-I just snapped.” She said. “I-I destroyed...her bed and breakfast! She probably hates me now but I-” “Hey, hey.” Warren took her into his arms. “It’s alright, sweetheart.” He reassured, kissing her on the top of her head. “You’ve been through something more traumatic than any of us combined.” He said. “It’s understandable that this would happen.” “No, dad.” Kazmiyah pushed away from him-not aggressively but just to look up into his eyes. “Aurora was right. If I can’t control myself then what good am I?” “What right does she have to judge you on controlling yourself when you’ve been doing it all this long?” Warren said. “Everyone has a breaking point, Kaz. It’s not your fault that you’ve reached yours.” Kazmiyah was so used to not being reassured by others and instead of reassuring herself, that she didn’t know how to take her father being….her father at that moment. She sighed. “I-I just need to take a walk.” She said. “I’ll see you guys later.” “Okay.” Warren kissed her forehead. “Everything will get better Kaz. Just...do not leave again, okay?” He said. She held her father’s hand. “I’m not going anywhere yet, dad. But if I can’t control myself like Aurora said, then….I might have to.” She sighed and walked away. Warren didn’t like the sound of that and was adamant about speaking to Aurora about how she spoke to his daughter. But for the time being, he couldn’t help but want to inquire about another. He didn’t want to upset Kazmiyah again though. “She’s alive, dad,” Kazmiyah said, stopping and turning to face him. “She’s just not here.” She then continued to walk away. “I’m going to go check on my Alpha,” Roj said and started towards the hospital. “Roj,” Warren called to him. “Yes, Alpha.” “Where-where is Alora?” He asked. “ “She’s staying at a hotel outside town.” He said. “Jason has the name if you want to go see her.” Warren nodded. “Thank you.” Before Roj disappeared. He then looked at Godfrey. “Tell your dad, we might need to take a look at Kazmiyah.” Godfrey sighed. “Fine.” He turned to walk away. “I know you’re going to talk to Aurora, Alpha.” He said, pausing. “And?” Warren said. “Watch what you say to her,” Godfrey said. “She’s been through a lot too, and she’s only trying to help.” He then disappeared into the evening. Warren stood there and thought about what Godfrey had said, but he was too annoyed with what he was told that she had said to Kazmiyah not to give her a piece of his mind. His pack was standing behind him still, staying around until he made it clear that they separate. He and Valor connected through the pack link. “Disperse.” He made the command to them and then he headed toward the bed and breakfast. “I have a fix for this.” She said to Mrs. Linda. “It will take a couple of days, however. My powers are needing a little TLC, and I have to use them again to save the Alpha’s life tomorrow. Do you have somewhere to stay until then?” She asked. Mrs. Linda sighed. “I do.” Aurora could tell that she felt guilty for provoking Kazmiyah the way that she did. “You alright?” She asked. She wasn’t going to pressure Mrs. Linda into talking to her but Aurora figured that it wouldn't hurt to ask. “Fine.” Mrs. Linda said while simultaneously shaking her head, no. “I should not have said what I said to her. I just-” “Trust me, Mrs. Linda, Kazmiyah is angrier with herself than she is with you,” Aurora reassured the woman. “Just...go home or-wherever and get some rest. We’ll figure this out and I promise...you and Kazmiyah will be alright.” Mrs. Linda sighed again and squeezed Aurora's hand before leaving the dismantled bed and breakfast. “You alright, kid?” Aurora said to her niece as she felt her presence from behind. “What happened, Aurora?” She asked. “Why did she snap?” Aurora turned around to see her niece standing there with a shattered picture in her hand. “Mags, that girl has been through a lot.” She simply said. “Everyone handles their trauma in different ways but sometimes they let it get the best of them.” Aurora shrugged. “It’s not her fault-doesn’t mean she has to keep letting the trauma win.” Mags sighed. “Yeah.” She walked towards her. “So where are we going to stay?” She asked. Aurora shrugged. “There’s a small hotel a few miles away. I’m just going to stay there-” “Or you could save your money and staay at the Blood Haven-” “I’m not a vampire, Mags.” Aurora cut her off. “Not anymore and besides, I’ve had nearly two centuries to save my money. Having enough is the last thing that I’m worried about.” “Oh-well that makes sense,” Mags said. “But you know Elder Varick says that you’re always welcome-” “Elder Varick says that because he is still trying to get into his son’s good graces by getting into my good graces.” She clarified. She could see by Mag’s unwillingness to let it go that she wanted to stay there, and she wasn’t upset with that idea at all. “But-” “Magdalyn.” Aurora turned around. “If you want to stay there, then stay there, darling.” She reassured her niece. “It will not change what we are trying to do-or the progress we make. If that is where your comfort lies then do as you like.” She smiled. Mags sighed and nodded in agreement. “I just...wish you were coming with me.” “I’m not leaving you Mags, so you don’t have to keep every waking eye on me. That’s something that I am supposed to be doing for you.” Aurora teased to lighten the moment. Mags chuckled. “Okay. Speaking of progress, have you….” Aurora sighed. She didn’t want to discourage Mags by telling her that she had no luck in finding her father, but she also didn’t feel much like lying either. “I’m working on it, hon.” She simply replied. “We’re going to find him.” Mag's expression almost turned lost. “I hope so.” She replied as a smirk appeared across her face. “I was just starting to like the old man.” Mags touched her aunt's back. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Aurora.” After she left, Aurora stuck around the bed and breakfast, just to think and be alone. “Aurora.” When she heard her name being called, she turned around and saw the Alpha Crescent standing there, staring at her. “Alpha.” Aurora greeted as she watched him look around the nearly destroyed bed and breakfast. “Nice renovations, right?” “Kaz? Kaz did this?” He asked with slight shock. Aurora could see the concern on Kazmiyah’s father’s face. “Yep. And all because of that wretched daughter of yours.” Warren immediately stopped looking around. “What did you say?” “I said that Kazmiyah snapped because that wretch of a daughter that everyone seems to love.” She scoffed. “Far be it beyond me to understand why anyone could tolerate one so selfish and cold.” “You don’t know Alora-” “I know enough to come to the decision that I don’t like her.” Aurora refused to back down from this argument. “She killed her own sister out of jealousy and spite. With all due respect, Alpha Crescent, I think I know all that I need to know.” “Is that right?” Warren countered. Aurora nodded a yes before he continued. “And what do you know about Kazmiyah?” He asked. Aurora scoffed. Where she had turned around once again, she turned to face him once more. “Ah, so that...is why you’re here.” She said. “They told you what I said to her and now you’re upset because I didn’t handle your child with kid gloves.” “Don’t patronize me, Aurora Vale.” “It’s Valentine.” Aurora corrected. “I don’t care what your name is.” Warren snapped. “What I do care about, however, is the way you handle Kazmiyah. She has gone through entirely too much to have everyone bearing down on her right now-and that includes you.” "I’m not bearing down on your daughter, Alpha. I am trying to help her!” Aurora hissed. “And everyone is so concerned with hurting her feelings that you all don’t see that she doesn’t want to be coddled! She just wants to be understood-” “Don’t presume to think that because you’ve been here all of a split-second that you know my daughter!” Warren snapped. “You don’t know her and you don’t know what she’s been through so do not psycho-analyze the situation as if you know what’s best for her!” Aurora groaned in exasperation of the subject. At this point, she was resigned to the back and forth. “I don’t presume to even begin to know the ins and outs of Kazmiyah Crescent, Alpha.” She told Warren. “And that’s understandable, considering the fact that I just met her. The question is...do you know her?” “Excuse me?” “Of course, superficially,” Aurora said. “Her favorite color, her favorite food-ice cream….but have you ever just talked to her? About the darkness?” She asked. “About the trauma that she has been dealing with since her deaths?” Aurora continued. “Or are you just...glad that she’s home?” Aurora shook her head and sighed. “Things aren’t going to go back to the way they were because your daughter is back from the dead, Alpha. You need to talk to her and understand her below the surface or she will be lost.” “And how…” Warren scoffed. “How would you know?” Aurora wasn’t going to go into detail about the torture that she had to endure at the Zodiac but he needed to know that she was no stranger to trauma and darkness. “Because...I’ve been there.” Warren didn’t doubt that Aurora had been through her own trials and tribulations and as regrettable as that was, no one was more important to him than his daughter’s. “I’m sorry that you had to go through that.” He said as he walked near her. “And I appreciate you stopping Kaz before she caused any more damage to the town, but aside from all of that, the way you spoke against her before was out of line.” He said. “You are here on a trial basis, Aurora Valentine.” He informed her. “And if you do or say anything that jeopardizes my daughter’s sanity or her ability to live here in Crescent with her family….you’re out. Again, she was being cast as the bad guy. She shook her head. ‘Some things never change.’ Her counterpart said. And sadly, Aurora had to agree. Aurora scoffed, dropped her head. She didn’t want to risk Mags being put out of a place where she felt so welcome. So she decided to grin and bear it. She looked into the Alpha’s eyes again and gave him a small smile, resigned to defending herself. “Whatever you say, Alpha.”
