I didn't know what to think. I felt lost and alone in the dark, trapped in that hole with no way out. Despair settled over me like a heavy shroud, and I wondered if this was the end. The walls of the pit pressed in on all sides, and my fingers bled from fruitless attempts to claw my way to freedom.
