CHAPTER 4

She threw an old newspaper at me as she started the engine. ODE was circled with red ink and a space ship was under it. "They make spaceships" "Just that?" You gotta be f*****g kidding me. "What the f**k does a spaceship company want with me" I asked. "How the f**k am I supposed to know that?" "I have to go back" "For what?" "I left my mama back there. I have to know if she's okay" "You can't go back there" "Why the f**k not?" "There will be guards watching there" "What of my mama?" "She'll be taken care of" "How do I know that?" "You f*****g don't. Now shut the f**k up before I knock you out" I looked at her annoyed face and gulped. She wasn't kidding. I shrunk in my chair quietly as she drove. I was itching to say something but I didn't want to be knocked out cold. "Can I at least know your name?" She eyed me "Violet" There was no sound in the car as she drove except for the sound of her chewing gum. She pulled up at a gas station to refill. I decided to use the bathroom and get a few things from inside. "Don't be long" was the only thing she said to me as I entered the super mart. There were few people inside when I entered. I went straight to the bathroom and did my business. As I came out, I caught the cashier looking at me. I moved out of his line of sight and went to pick up chips. I turned at the end of the aisle and bumped into somebody. "What the f**k dude?" It was the cashier. He didn't reply but rushed to grab my neck. I dodged and pushes him away. He crashed into the table and it broke. I grabbed the chips to hurry out when someone blocked the entrance. I barely turned before I was lifted and thrown against the wall. I groaned as I crashed into the wall breaking it. It didn't hurt much but I felt it. I was lifted by my collar and punched in the face. My attacker groaned as he dropped me. His hand was twisted weirdly and he clutched it in pain. I moved back in fear while the other attacker came with a knife. He plunged it into my side but I felt no pain. We looked at each other confused before I kicked him and he went flying across the room. I heard sounds of multiple boots and saw soldiers that looked like those from mamas house marching in. Their focus turned to me and they started shooting. I dodged the bullets and tried to look for an escape. They were gaining in on me while I was trying to exit. "Down now" I turned to see Violet with a huge gun firing at them. I bent and covered my head as I heard the sound of gunshots and glass breaking above my head. Hands held my arm and I looked up to see Violet standing above me. I stood up and follows her as she kept shooting. As soon as we were outside, we ran straight to the car and she drove out immediately. "How the f**k did they find us?" "They must be tracking us" "How about you call your bosses so they can get us to safety" "I'm not taking you back to the headquarters" "Why not?" "You're a risk. Until we know why they are after you and how they keep finding you, I'm not taking you to the headquarters" "Where are we going then?" "I know some people. I'll make a few calls" Violet said and parked the truck. "Stay here" she opened her door and jumped down. She slammed the door and moved away from the car. She placed the phone to her ear and began talking. She paced with her hands on her forehead while she spoke on the phone. She looked at me for a while and I could detect annoyance. She looked away and continued her call. After a while she threw the phone on the floor and smashed it under her boot. She walked to the car and got in. "So.. what are we doing next" "Getting you to a secluded place and teaching you how to protect yourself" "By that you mean fighting and using weapons?" "Whatever it takes" "There's no way I'm fighting or killing anybody. I won't do that" She slammed the brakes and I fell forward hitting my head on the dashboard. "Then get the f**k out. If you'll not learn to fight or kill get out" I looked at her face. I opened the door and stepped down. I slammed it shut and she sped off without a word. I looked around the area I was. Unfamiliar. It was a lone path. Going back will take me to the gas station. So forward it was. I trekked until my feet felt worn out as I dragged it down the road. I don't know how long I had walked but it was almost sundown and I needed to rest. I couldn't sleep on the road. I looked at the thick forests on each side of me. I groaned internally. I walked tentatively into the forest, looking left and right and being extra careful so none of the leaves touched me. I had to be careful. You never know which one is poisonous or hiding poisonous insects. I found a clearing and settled down. The air was chilly and the forest now dark. I gathered some twigs and two rocks and kept striking them against each other so I could light a fire. I groaned in frustration and three the rocks away when they won't light. That have got to stop f*****g deceiving is in movies. I slumped on the ground in defeat. O pulled ofu coat and placed it around my legs as I huddled against a tree and dozed off. I opened my eyes slowly as I heard the breaking of twigs under somebody's footsteps.
