Belle's POV
I waited for a while for Jeff, but he never came back and it made me so worried. I didn't know what to think or expect. Is our friendship over now? Did I go too far? Will he ever see me the same way? All these questions and more collided in my head as I tried to wrap my head around our sudden kiss.
It was sweet to be honest, I liked and enjoyed every bit and I wish it could go on. After waiting for an hour with no travel of Jeff, I went back to my room.
"We'll talk in the morning." I thought to myself as I did my night skincare and went to bed.
I woke up early the next morning and Jeff was still nowhere to be found. I checked in his room and I could tell he was home last night. The cloth he wore was inside. A lot of thoughts ran through my mind then and I arrived at the conclusion that Jeff actually went to work without me. He takes me in the morning and Luke mostly brings me in the evening.
I was a bit relieved when I got to work and he wasn't there either. At least, now I know he didn't leave me behind. I kept waiting for him throughout the day but he never came, and he didn't call either.
I initially contemplated on calling him but by the time we closed at work and he still wasn't around, I called him.
"Hi Belle, I was going to call you earlier but it skipped my mind." Jeff said over the phone.
"It's fine, I just wanted to check up on you. You didn't come to the office today." I replied.
"Yeah, I was called into an urgent meeting very early this morning. You were still sleeping and I didn't want to disturb. I should be back tomorrow though." He explained.
"Alright then, I guess we'll talk then." I retorted.
"Yeah," he mumbled before we hung up.
Matt has been disturbing me with calls for the past few days. I don't get why it's so difficult for him to just leave me alone. Just today, I've had three calls from him and he wouldn't even let me have a good sleep after a stressful day.
"What exactly is the problem Matt? Why are you disturbing me with calls?" I said impatiently over the phone.
"I just want to hear your voice, I've missed you Belle, I really miss you. It's like you've taken all my essence, I need you." Matt said over the phone, and if it were the past, I would have be drooling over the sweet words.
"Why are you calling me Matt? I don't have time for all this sweetcoated lies, I had a stressful day and I need to rest." I said, dismissing his words.
"I'm sorry Belle, can you just find a place in your heart and forgive me? I promise to never hurt you again, what can I do please? I can't keep living without you, you're my world." He pleaded.
"Clearly, you have a lot of worlds then because you've been living fine without me. And you sound very okay despite your past attempt at sounding pitiful. Like I said, I had a stressful day and need to sleep, goodnight and goodluck Matt." I said hurriedly.
"Belle! Babe…" I hung up before he could go on. I don't have time to dwell on irrelevant talks. Knowing Matt well, he would call back to disturb so I switched off my phone and went on to bed.
****
The next day, work was going fine until I got a call from the front desk, informing me of a visitor for me. Judging from the description, I could paint a picture in my head and the only person who fits in the description is Matt. I quickly ran to the front desk and to my surprise, it really was Matt. Before thinking twice, I quickly pulled him aside into a corner.
"Matt, what the h*ll are you doing at my workplace?" I said angrily.
Calm down babe, I just wanted to see you so we can talk better. I feel like talking on the phone is only complicating things." Matt said gently. I couldn't even think of what to say but one thing for sure, Matt would definitely create a scene and I didn't want his drama.
"You know what, let's just leave here, probably go to a restaurant and talk."
I retorted.
"It's fine with me." He replied.
I went in, grabbed my purse and phone and we headed to a nearby restaurant. As usual, Matt was all sweet with me and he got all the waiter drooling on him.
While we were eating, he apologized and he was so sober that I couldn't just help but believe him,
It's fine, I'm open to being friends if you are." I finally replied after being silent for just a while.
"Belle, I'm not interested in being friends, you're my woman and I want you back in my life, I've not been the same since you left me. Please Belle, I need you back." He let out while trying to touch my hand but I quickly took my hand off.
"We'll never be together Matt, we'll never be, never. We can be friends if you want to but emotionally, I'm detached from you. I know what I need and I've realized you don't fit into any of those."
said firmly but very calmly.
"Okay then, if you insist but I still won't give up on us, I'm going to win you back and make you mine again." Matt replied. He excused himself and went into the restroom.
It wasn't long after he left that his phone started beeping. At first I ignored but when it beeped again, I became curious and decided to check. He has literally been on the phone since we got here, typing every minute. I felt my eyes gradually become wet as I went through Matt's phone and got the shock of my life.
