Dangerous

Mae – POV Faye looked at me with concern. “Wait, that was why you asked Oscar to spare my life?” She nodded, sighing. “It was my duty to save Oscar,” Faye said. I scoffed. “You’re still not over, Oscar, are you?” I hissed. Faye sighed, glaring at me. “I just told you that you were under someone else’s control. I don’t know who,” Faye sighed. “And all you care about is me pining over an Oscar who is history to me.” I glared at her, my wolf jealous of her. “I want to kill her,” my wolf Bianca growled after two weeks in the dungeons. I calmed my wolf. “You are a Dark Magic Caster,” Faye said, ignoring my death glare. I had to calm my wolf, as I was weak now, and I knew that Faye loved Atlas, not Oscar. It was the other way around. “What is a Dark Magic Caster?” I asked. “You make people puppets,” Faye said, not flinching or fearing me. She stood tall while I felt weak against her. “Who could be doing this?” I muttered. “I don’t know, but it seems you are out of their control,” Faye said, scanning me for a second. I felt her magic around me. “I wonder why someone stopped controlling your mind.” “Upset aren't you,” I hissed. “You want me to kill and be the b***h you liked before? Hit you?” I smirked. Faye narrowed her eyes. “Aren’t you tough, acting against me when I see through things,” Faye hissed. “I have no time for you. I told you enough. Now, get lost, will you?” I left to find out what my life was, who had used me, and why. I believed Faye knew something she wasn’t sharing with me. As I walked out of the infirmary, I saw Daniel again, not looking at me but dragging Oscar’s drunk ass to the car, reeking of another she-wolf’s scent. It burned me from within, and I knew I could never have Oscar. A pang of pain shot through my chest. I read the file, discovering that Hector, who had manipulated me, had died when I was twelve years old. But who had manipulated me, and why? There was more to it that I needed to figure out for myself. My memories of the bad things I had done to people were only clouded. The rest was a blur, and my head hurt as I tried to remember more. These days, I couldn’t think of my past as if it were lost. “Hey, are you alright?” Daniel caught me as I nearly fell to the ground. “What the hell happened?” Oscar staggered towards us, his gaze full of disgust when he saw me. “Why am I seeing this b***h again?” he hissed. Before he could strike me, Daniel blocked his hand. “Why aren’t you dead like your parents?” Oscar spat, and tears welled up in my eyes. “Why is my luck cursed to be mated with you and not another woman?” Daniel ensured Oscar didn’t hit me, pulling him away with a glare piercing my heart. “It hurts,” my wolf Bianca moaned in pain and sorrow. Daniel shut the car door and instructed Joseph, the Omega from the Orion Pack, to drive Oscar away. He then returned to help, supporting me as he led me away from the Red Night Pack. “I’ll take you to a safe place,” he said. I nodded, and Daniel helped me into his car. As he drove, the tears wouldn’t stop. I remembered one event in the past that cemented my love for Oscar. It was the day he saved me from rogues when I was lost in the woods and nearly died. Oscar saved my life and was there for me when I was in shock. He became my friend when no one else would, as Faye was famous in school while I was just an average girl. A hand on mine broke me from my thoughts. “What are you thinking?” Daniel asked. “When I fell in love with Oscar,” I said. Daniel knew about this event; I had told him when I brutally rejected him. Today, I found my childhood love to be my second chance mate, but he wants to reject me. I deserve this. Daniel’s calm face just stared at me, giving me the same look he used to in college when he had a crush on me, which I had used to my advantage. “You should move on,” I said. “I can’t,” Daniel retorted. “Maybe you will find a second mate and move on,” I said. “Rejected my second mate,” Daniel said coldly. “Why are you so obsessed with me?” I asked. “Who wouldn’t be?” Daniel replied with a dark smirk. I rolled my eyes. “I’m a mean b***h who will do anything to get what she wants,” I said. “You, of all people, should hate me. I left you for another.” I reminded him. “I remember everything,” Daniel said coldly. “Yet you’re helping me. Why?” I asked. “I care for you.” I rolled my eyes again, but deep down, I knew the feeling of being hated by the one you love. One-sided love sucks, and I hate such situations. As the car pulled to another location, I saw Nancy standing beside her boyfriend, Denver. I raised my eyebrows at her. “You’ll be safe here,” Daniel said. “Why didn’t you call me to confirm this was safe? You make it seem like we’re on some vacation, and you called Denver here,” I snapped. “Well, I called Denver because he can protect us,” Nancy said. “Also, it was Daniel’s idea.” I looked at him, frowning as Daniel guided me inside the average wooden home. It looked quiet, with small rooms. Daniel showed me around, and Denver brought clothes for Nancy and me from our home in New York. “We need to talk,” I said to Daniel, walking outside into the dense forest, an excellent place to escape. “Why are you risking giving shelter to a rogue wolf like me?” I asked. “You’re aware of the punishment you’ll face.” “I don’t care about that. I care about you.” Daniel said, his warm hands coming to my cheeks. A shiver ran down my spine, but something was odd about Daniel; his eyes were hungry as he looked at me. He lowered his head, ready to kiss my lips, but I put some distance between us. He looked disappointed and sighed. “How is your memory these days?” I raised my eyebrows at him. “I am the Beta of the Orion Pack, Mae. I know things,” he said. “What about my memories?” I asked. Daniel blinked in surprise. “Faye didn’t tell you?” he asked, confused. I should have known Faye wouldn’t give me information straight, but at least she told me I was being manipulated. She explained my aggressive behavior was due to the manipulation cast on me—no wonder I used to have such severe headaches after my outbursts. I tried to remember more, but dizziness overcame me, and Daniel held me steady. “Tell me the truth, Daniel.” “It seems you can handle it,” he said. I steadied myself, and Daniel’s eyes lingered on my bandaged neck. His hand brushed against it, and I leaned into his touch, too drained to pull away. Suddenly, Daniel yanked me close, hugging me, surprising me. “Faye discovered today through her ability that the manipulator who controlled you made sure you have no memories of the past, only the ones you cherished or feared,” Daniel revealed. I gulped at this revelation. Could there be more in my past that I need to uncover to survive? “What if the caster comes back to control me?” I whispered. “I don’t think it’s possible,” Daniel said. He hugged me, comforting me, and I felt a strange sense of calm. How could I feel this way towards Daniel? I broke away from the hug, and his warm eyes stayed on me. “I want you to know that no matter what, I care for you,” he said, his words warming my heart that Oscar scarred. But my heart still yearned for Oscar. “I am a sinner,” I said. “You are not a heavy sinner. Many are monsters,” Daniel said. It was comforting but odd, as he said it with a dark undertone that hinted at some mystery. Daniel left me, and I watched him drive away, giving me a heated look that would sway many women but not me. I believed he had something I needed to watch out for. I walked into the room and immediately heard Nancy moaning while Denver grunted. Feeling disgusted, I moved to another room I believed belonged to Daniel. He had said he came here alone on vacation, so I stayed there to avoid the noises. Rolling my eyes, I scanned the luxurious room, scanning the papers. What caught my attention was a hidden basement door that opened when I clicked on an antique object. I descended into the basement and found an older woman who looked like an aged version of me. She was weak and shackled. What the hell? I looked around and saw medical kits and papers. My eyes filled with tears as I read notes about my birth mother. I caressed her cheek, trying to break her free from the shackles. “Don’t do anything,” my mother said weakly. “Why?” I asked. Suddenly, someone yanked my hair. It was Joseph, the Omega. “I came at the right time,” Joseph said, dragging me and slapping me. I fought back, but he quickly administered wolfsbane to my neck. I felt dizzy as he shackled my hands and pulled me to another room. Through blurry vision, I saw Nancy and Denver coming in, only to be hit by Joseph with wolfsbane. “Why are you doing this to me?” I whispered weakly. “We need you alive,” Joseph said. “Our Alpha’s life resides in you. If you die, so does his wolf. Our master doesn’t like weak battles.” I blinked in surprise. “What is the meaning of this?” I asked. “Well, you will work for us as we find the Orion Pack’s ancient powers. We need them to give to our master.” “I won’t betray the Orion Pack again,” I snapped. “You will, or else your mother dies. It was hard to track her down, you know,” Joseph said. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I realized the gravity of the situation. I had just met my biological mother, and she was in such a poor state. “Daniel!” I screamed. Joseph chuckled. “Oh, poor Mae,” Joseph chuckled. “Daniel is the mastermind behind this.” My heart shattered. Could those words be lies?
