ALICE POV I can still feel the tension from the conversation I had with Val and Angie buzzing under my skin, like a live wire. As Alex drives us back towards the pack, the silence between us feels heavy. He finally asks why I'm so quiet, glancing at me with concern. "Everything's fine," I lie, trying to sound convincing. "Just tired." It's gotten later than we planned. The sky is painted in the hues of twilight, and we should have been having dinner with Alex's parents by now. But his economics professor had kept him after class to discuss an assignment that hadn't gone as expected, and one thing led to another. To fill the silence and avoid further conversation, I take control of the music. I scroll through my playlist and settle on "Ridere" by Pinguini Tattici Nucleari. Singing softly
