Chapter 9

(Luciana POV) The inn was not so good. The room didn’t have many things except for a table, a lamp and a small wardrobe. The beds were uncomfortable and the sheets wrinkled. The walls were a pale blue color, the top part of the white from being worn off. There was a small window but I was glad the curtains in the room were thick. Melissa made sure the lights were open so the lightening won't have much impact on the room. "Thank you." I smiled as she gave me a cup of coffee along with sleeping pills. It was something I shouldn’t have a lot but there are many nights I won't sleep and these are my relief. I wished I had my fluffy wolf with me but taking that out of the carriage is a big risk. The next day I woke up with a clear sky. When I got out of the inn, everyone was already ready and waiting. "I am sorry for the horrible service, your highness." an old man who is the owner of this inn said bowing his head. "It is fine, Sir. Thank you for providing us with room in such a hurried notice." I smiled at him. He gave me back a weak smile. "As repayment, I would like to help you with this. Renovate it a little." The man's eyes widen in shock. "w-what? I couldn’t possible…" I stopped him midway. "Who knows, Sir? Perhaps there will be another storm and perhaps I need to visit here again. Isn't it better if I could get a better facility?" The man looked at me with a wide smile praising me for my kindness. As I entered the carriage, my eyes met with my mate. He turned his head away as soon as our eyes met. Another day has passed and we finally reached the palace. I was welcomed by my entire maid and even the council member. "Welcome back, your highness!" the general said as I nodded at him. I wanted to go straight to bed and take some rest but I knew it was something I can only dream of. I had work and pending matters I needed to attend. "You all can go take rest. From tomorrow resume back to your old duties." I said as the guards that accompanied me bowed and dispersed. "You can also take some rest, Melissa." I smiled as she looked at me in worry. "Your Majesty, it's already 8. You need to take rest as well." "Yes, I will. But I need to get some work done. Do tell the chef to bring my food to my office." She looked reluctant but she knew I wouldn’t change my plan. "Yes your highness." My eyes went to Nero who was staring at me with a frown. "Melissa will show you your room, Alpha Nero. Please take rest and be ready by 7 in the morning. We will prepare everything for your position as protector." He looked hesitant but still followed Melissa to his room. I on the other hand went straight to my office. As expected, piles of works were stacked up on the table and I couldn’t help but let out a groan. "You're Majesty." my right hand and advisor, Sir William bowed as I sat on my seat. "Good Evening William. Please fill me in on the matters." I said as he nodded before snapping his hands. A white paper and pen appeared in front of him and he started explaining my worklist. The next day Melissa woke me up at 6. I groaned wanting to stay in bed. I slept at 1.00 pm and I am still tired from traveling. But then again I can't complain about it. After I dress up, I made my way to Nero's room. "Why in the hell should I wear this?" I heard him shout. When I walked into the room I couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight. Nero was standing on the raised platform wearing complete royal attire. His uniform was black with a high collar, neatly ironed. The gold buttons of the shirt were attached to the far left of the shirt making it look like the right side of the shirt overlaps the left side. He had gold shoulder pads that were designed with the kingdom's emblem and a gold class one brooch which only my personal accompanies have. "Isn't there something normal I can wear?" "This is normal in the palace." I said as everyone turned in my direction. "My Queen." "Your highness."  "Your majesty." Everyone around me bowed in respect. Nero on the other hand stared at me in horror. "I am not going to walk around wearing this." he said giving a small shiver. "This is a standardized uniform for the royal protectors for generations, Alpha Nero. This way everyone will know you and recognize your position in the palace." one of the managers spoke as he put the brooch properly. "Oh isn’t that great. Thanks for telling me this is old fashion." he rolled his eyes making me let out another chuckle. The managers, on the other hand, sighed feeling fed up with his attitude. Surely it's not easy to tame a wild beast especially one who had lived his whole life as a rogue and practically hates royal life. The fitting went on for an hour and I just sat on the sofa watching the entertainment in front of me. "We are already behind schedule, Alpha. Please corporate with us." The poor manager head said looking all tired. It's only 9 in the morning and the whole of the crew seemed tired trying to manage him. "Your majesty." William walked in. "You have a meeting in 10 minutes." I sighed and stood up from my seat. "Alpha Nero, I need to go and settle some duties. After you finish this, the manager will take you to your ethics class." I said as he turned to me with a huge frown. "My what class?" "Your ethics class." I repeated as he looked at me as though I grew 2 more heads. "You are joking with me, right? You are doing this on purpose to revenge on rejecting you>" he glared and I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. I took slow steps towards him, making him go stiff. The other took a step back confused looking between me and my mate. "Now why would I do that?" He took a step back as I stepped onto the dressing floor. He was going to step down but I raised my hand, grabbing him by his neck and pulling him closer to me. I could feel his heart beating faster, his ears turning red. "W-what are you doing?" "Crazy of you to say you rejected me when you have this sort of rejection." He pushed my hand away and stumbled down immediately before giving me a glare. I only smiled getting down from the dressing floor. "Ethics class is something all non-royal or untrained people take before getting directly involved in the palace. It is not my revenge, my dear mate." Everyone was silent as they watched us. Nero on the other hand glared at me with disbelief. He was still frustrated but didn’t comment on anything. "Well then, I will be off. Behave well." I patted his cheeks with a smile before walking out of the room. I should finish the meeting fast so I could see his ethics class. I smiled rubbing my hands together. It was still feeling the tingling effects of the sparkle. The class was something mandatory and not my sweet revenge but I will be lying if I say I will enjoy seeing him suffer a little. "Your majesty, I have also gathered the information you want to know about Alpha Nero." William said as I nodded. "Perfect, please pass it onto Melissa. I will read it in my room" I smiled as he nodded. I had told William to do some background checking on Nero. It was usually something my officers do upon appointing someone to work in the palace and everything of that sort is handled by William. But the matter about Nero, I wanted to check directly. It's not only because he is my mate. I wanted to know what happened in the forest. I wanted to know more about his wolf form and whether it had happened before. The biggest difference between a Lycan and a werewolf was how easily Lycan can shift. They are able to turn to their true form whenever they desire. But it's not the same for ordinary wolves. They can only shift on full moons. It is very rare and almost impossible to shift whenever they want. I have heard of werewolves losing control but I have never heard of them shifting. Another fact is how Alpha Kennedy was calm on the matter. It was like he had seen Nero shift to a wolf before. I need to find out why this is happening.
