Rose
Pulling out my notepad, I began to write down the treatment plan for Nolan.
I think Cody didn't know Nolan situation. He was all quite only he decided to break the silence as he gritted out, ''Jason is such a bastard. I'm pretty sure he was the one who caused your grandfather a heart at...''
Nolan raised one hand, making Cody to lower his voice. “I know. You shouldn't show up here frequently. I'll try to keep in touch with you on the phone.''
''Okay. By the way, sir, I've contacted Brian.''
''Thank you,'' Nolan nodded.
''I have to go if nothing else, sir.'' He said standing up. He was halfway through the door when Nolan spoke up.
''Wait Cody,'' He called out.
''Yes Sir?'' Cody turned around.
''Grandpa's funeral will be in two days. Make the necessary preparations”
“Okay sir,'' Cody nodded, ''I'll see to it.''
After Cody left I was still writing the plan. Nolan’s blindness was sudden and temporary. I remembered several similar cases in my grandpa's notebook. I’m hundred percent sure that I can make him recover.
When I looked up from her notebook later, I realized that I spent the whole morning writing the plan while Nolan was quite in his own world.
''Is the sun very bright today?'' He asked, smiling.
I looked out of the window and squeezed his hand. How strong he is to smile when he lost someone dear to him.
''Would you mind taking me out so I can enjoy the sunshine a little bit Ariana”
Ariana…
How could I forget the position I held. How could I forget I’m just a substitute. I’m Rose not Ariana. I managed to forced out a smile as if he could see me.

With Nolan’s arm linked with mine, we made our way out towards the garden. I feel like he will be more comfortable there. Not like I've gotten a view of it but I was glad I chose the garden. The way the surrounding was quite, you'd think there are no maids in the house performing their task.
I gently helped him settle on the bench before occupying the space next to him. “How do you know I prefer to get a fresh air at the garden?” Came his question.
I didn't fail to let out a smile. Only if he knew.
“Sorry. I forgot you can't talk” He chuckle at the end.
“How will we communicate then?”
It wasn't a statement but a question. And that somehow striked something in me. I circled my arms around him. “Sorry. I didn't mean to make you sad. Although I'm a little bit disappointed that neither you or your father mention that to me. How did I get cornered in this”
Okay maybe I don't get the entire thing clearly. I know him and my sister have been in some kind of relationship but I also don't know how comes he didn't get suspicious. Is it that Ariana has never uttered a word to him? Or were their interaction offline?
I was brought back from the world of thought by the sound of his sigh. “I can't believe this is happening to me. I can't believe grandfather is gone. The fact that I won't be able to see him with my eyes...” the way his voice cracked at the end made my heart clench.
“I- ” He didn’t get to make the words out when a sound decided to interrupt and that sound was none other than my stomach. “Let’s go inside. I’m sure the maids are done cooking”
I nodded as if he could see me. With my help once again, we made our way inside the house. Like Nolan said, the dining area was already occupied with the lunch prepared. “Master lunch is ready” A young girl wearing uniform said. I didn’t see her when I came.
“Thank you Leah”
Wait? How did he recognise her just by her voice.
The young girl spared me a glance before disappearing to the kitchen. Nolan settled on the seat while I proceed to serve him the food. My eyes widened seeing the quantity of food on the plate. A small quantity of mashed potatoes and salad which is basically nothing. The dressing is somehow aggressive. “What’s wrong Ariana?” Nolan asked his brows furrowing.
I slightly touched his hand moving them to the plate. A frown occupied his face. “Leah!” he called out in a loud voice.
The girl called Leah rushed out. “Yes Master”
“Who prepared this food?”
“It was the kitchen head Master”
“Call her for me” Leah once again rushed back to the kitchen before she later came out with the maid that came to our room when Jason was leaving.
She threw me a disdain look. “Is everything okay?” The way she was talking was a sign of total rudeness.
“Why would you serve me this kind of food when you know quite well the kind of food we eat in this house” She went silent.
“Am I not talking to you. Or are you deaf” Nolan said with a sign of irritation.
“Sorry to say Master but we have run out of foodstuffs and with the current situation, we don’t have the means to restocked. And Master Jason gave me orders not to do anything unless he gives the permission”
“You must be stupid. Are you working under me or Jason”
“Master at the point, we can’t settle for less. After all Master Jason will be in charge of the household from now on. You can’t see”
Anger boiled inside me. How dare she say that to Nolan. For someone she is working under. Don’t she have any conscience. The person that she feeds on. I could see Nolan clenching his jaw. If only he could see. He would be able to see the look she was giving him.
“Get out” He said calmly.
“Sorry Master?”
“I said get out of this house. You’re fired and don’t you dare set your foot in this house ever again” Her eyes widened at his outburst. I bet she wasn’t expecting that.
“Jason has no right to control this family and he will not. Since he fool you into that thinking, you can go work in his house”
And to every other maid in this house,” He increased the sound of his voice. “Whoever thinks he can disobey me will be fired. If you think you can’t keep on working here, the door is opened. This house belongs to me and no one!”
