CHAPTER THREEMarie took a great deal of trouble in arranging Ursa’s hair and making her face up with cosmetics. “It’s very kind of you,” Ursa said, “and it’s just a pity that no one can see me.” She gave a little laugh as she spoke. Marie replied seriously in French, “There are always the servants, my Lady, and they talk!” Ursa knew that this was true.
