Chapter Nine: The White Wolf

Rylan’s POV “You must have fallen off the i***t tree. I can't believe this rubbish.” Rio shook his head at me as we returned to Creek, still holding Daniella in his arms. She clung to him tightly, burying her face into his neck. His affection for her baffled me, and I couldn't help but think she was pathetic for relying so heavily on him. “It's true. Daniella knows it, too.” I growled, but my brother did not believe me. “Rylan, let's go back and say Daniella is our chosen mate. We know she will be a great Luna. Her beta blood with our alpha blood together will create some strong and wonderful heirs for our pack.” Rio started to say, and I thought he was crazy to think up such nonsense. As I prepared to respond to Rio with a disapproving gaze, our mother's shriek interrupted us. Luna Lara, our magnificent pack luna, appeared at the entrance of the outhouse, her presence commanding. Her eyes scanned each of us, landing on me with a disapproving look that made it clear she was displeased with the current state of affairs. "Hello to you too, Mother," I replied, maintaining my composure amidst the tension. "And who is it that concerns you so much?" I inquired, my curiosity piqued by her sudden focus on Eliza. My mother leaned over to kiss my cheek before addressing the issue. "That stupid omega. She has disappeared," she lamented. "Eliza, our omega?" I raised an eyebrow, seeking clarification. Luna Lara's eyes narrowed as she zeroed in on Daniella, still in Rio's protective embrace. "Daniella, what on earth are you doing out here? And what happened to Eliza? She is supposed to be helping," she demanded, stern and unyielding. My anger boiled as I roared, "What do you mean she's gone?" My voice echoed through the outhouse, filled with disbelief and frustration. How could that ungrateful omega abandon our pack after everything my family had done for her? We had taken her in and offered her a haven, nourishment, and an opportunity for education. The betrayal stung deeply. “I don't have time for a worthless omega. I have bigger things to concern myself with.” I informed my mother. “And what would that be?” my father, alpha Morgan, appeared beside mother. “Well, our dear Rylan believes he found our mate,” Rio answered before I could open my mouth, causing me to glare at me. Enzo and Edward came running down the steps.” so we were right? Daniella is our mate?” Enzo shouted, but Edward stopped mid-step. “I don't feel anything?” he seemed surprised. “That's because she isn't our mate,” I said with a loud sigh, and all eyes were suddenly on me. “What?” our parents said in unison. “Then who is?” our father demanded to know. “The White Wolf. Rylan must have dreamt her up.” Rio snorted. I couldn't help but feel a wave of frustration as I tried to explain the situation to my family. "I saw her on the brink of our border," I began, trying to make them understand the significance of this revelation. "She is our mate, the White Wolf. I know it in my heart and soul. Daniella refused to accept she wasn't our destined mate, which would save her from a single rogue attack. Then she ran off when Daniella attempted to attack her. Daniella is the reason she, my mate, went. She may have injured Daniella on her leg, but she will survive.” I growled. Rio hissed at me as he went off to take her to the packs' hospital. “She is nothing more than a drama queen. I will never accept her as my chosen mate.” My father, Alpha Morgan, raised an eyebrow, his expression sceptical. "Daniella is a strong wolf, and being the daughter of our beta, it would be right for you to take her as a chosen mate and Luna.” Enzo and Edward exchanged glances, their expressions mixing curiosity and disbelief. Edward spoke up, "But father, we don't feel anything. How can she be our mate if we don't sense any connection?" Our mother watched on as Rio disappeared through the door. “Rio loves Daniella. It would break his heart not to have her by his side, and you boys will have to agree. You can only have one mate.” I clenched my fists, feeling the weight of my family's expectations and my responsibility as the future alpha. I needed to make the right decision for our pack, but I couldn't ignore the truth. "Daniella is not our mate," I stated firmly, my gaze locked on my father's. "The White Wolf is our destined mate, and I am certain of it.” I would not back down on this, and my parents knew it. “The white wolf is a signal of royalty and great power. Even the alpha king isn’t pure white, but a white wolf is rare and extremely powerful.” My mother said, scratching the top of her head thoughtfully. “But the king only has a son? Where could a pure white wolf have come from?” She turned to my father, who shook his head, irritated. “Son, I am certain that this is someone playing a trick. You and Daniella are the only ones to have seen this white wolf. Where could this wolf have come from? In the morning, I will make enquiries as to any other sightings, and if you are found to be correct, then we will find her, and she will be your mate, but in the meantime, Daniella holds the place as future Luna. We will not be the laughing stock if it found you are wrong about this so-called wolf existing.” My father warned and Enzo and Edward nodded in agreement. Despite his doubts, I knew deep down that the white wolf was real and that she held a significant role in my destiny. As the future alpha of our pack, it was my responsibility to follow my instincts and uncover the truth, even if it meant facing ridicule and scepticism from those around me. "I understand your concerns, father," I replied, keeping my tone respectful but firm. "But I have faith in what I saw and felt. The White Wolf is not a figment of my imagination, and I will do whatever it takes to prove her existence and importance to our pack." My father's expression softened slightly, a hint of understanding in his eyes. "Rylan, I trust your judgment. The reputation of our pack is at stake, and we cannot afford to be misled by false beliefs or illusions. We will investigate further in the morning but get some sleep now. I will check on Rio and Daniella.”
