Hecta sat at the table with Marcus, she ate the food but she didn’t want it. He even went and got some good wine. “Thanks.” She said taking her last bite. “I don’t feel well for some reason.” She said rubbing her head. “Are you sure you completed the spell correctly?” she said looking at him.
“Dremis and I followed the directions in your book, we didn’t change a thing. Anabel had all the doses of the punch.” He said shrugging his shoulders. “Are you dying?” he said touching her.
“I don’t know Marcus.” She said getting up from the table. “I need to get some air, I have sick.” She said not waiting for his response, she walked outside. A few demons lingered by, a few vampires stop near the house but didn’t look at her.
Marcus joined her outside, he didn’t say anything. He looked at her; she looked like she was sick. “I’m going to have to research this.” He finally said shaking his head. “Maybe there is something you can eat or take that will make this work.” He said looking down.
“Marcus I know you did this right.” She said touching his hand. “I just think Anabel is too much for me, I am fighting her day in and day out. I am tired.” She said looking at him. “I just want her last energy gone, she exhausts me.”
“She will be gone, you said yourself it takes about thirty days. You have a while before you are strong that is why we cannot fight.” He said shaking his head. “Tomorrow I am going to see if I can get some more demons here, just so we have some kind of defense so we can get out of here if here have to.”
“Alright.” She said leaning into her. “I guess I better lay down.” She couldn’t walk; Marcus picked her up and carried her into their new room. “Good night Marcus you’re a good man.” She said without opening her eyes.
“I know.” He said shaking his head and leaving her to sleep.
It took two days before Hecta woke up again; Marcus was worried she’d died. He would check on her every few hours, she always had her color, but she would never respond to his voice. “Good morning.” She said rubbing her eyes.
“You had me worried.” He said shaking his head.
“Why?” she looked at him confused.
“Because you slept for two days, I was worried you were going to die.” He said shaking his head. “I even convinced the merchant to give me extra punch.” He said bringing her a couple glasses. “You will need to drink two of these.”
“Alright.” She said taking the first one. “Did you find out anything else?” she said hoping he would say he did, and there was good news.
“Nothing yet.” He said shaking his head. He knew he had to tell her what he found out, but he would wait a few days so Hecta could recover. Marcus wasn’t sure what vampire blood would do to Hecta as they never tried anything like it in the past.
“What Marcus, what aren’t you telling me?” she said sitting up. “Don’t tell me nothing, because I’ve known you a long time.” She growled. “Now tell me!”
“Well you can try some vampire blood that is the real reason Victor and Daniel wanted you to come here.” He said looking down. “They said the spell would fail if you didn’t start to drink the blood.”
“Um alright.” She said shrugging her shoulders. “I have to do what I have to do.” She said shaking her head. “How long?”
“They do not know.” He said shaking his head. “Are you sure you want to mess up your agreement here?”
Hecta didn’t care about anyone but herself, if she couldn’t live then no one else should either. “I will manage that myself.” She said closing her eyes. “We can have vampires made, or we can ask David what we can do. If he doesn’t want to help then we will take matters into our own hands.”
“That is risky.” He said shaking his head. “But if you think we’ll be alright, I think we should do it.” He said kissing her hand. “At least do it until we can find another way.” He looked at her for a few seconds. “That blood you just drank was vampire. I caught one while you were sleeping.”
