“I had dreams about you for the longest time, you were in pain. I learned to make myself stay awake, now I don’t even sleep.” Marcus said shaking his head. “I think that is the reason I’ve been on edge with everyone, maybe I should learn how to sleep again.” He said closing his eyes.
“You don’t have to go to sleep.” She said shaking her head. “Honestly it is a waste of time; I wish I could train my brain not to have to shut down.”
“Don’t think of it that way.” He said touching her lips. “Just think of it as getting some rest while you dream about us?”
Hecta didn’t say anything, she didn’t want to dream. She didn’t want to do anything but plan the way she would rule the underworld and how she would bring them to the surface so they could take on Heaven and even win the sky.
Marcus made a nice dinner for the two of them; he even bought some expensive wine he found at the market. He was hoping he could talk Hecta into taking the vampire realm for themselves and not allowing Victor and Daniel to stay there. He wanted the power he felt there, there was something among the vampires he was attracted to, but he also felt like he would die if he got too close to it.
“What are you thinking about?” Hecta asked taking a sip of the wine. “I can almost hear your voice, but your thoughts are too much for me.”
“I’m just thinking about taking the vampire realm for myself, I just don’t think we should be giving Victor or Daniel power over there. I think they would ruin the world, and I feel it has a lot of potential.”
“Yeah me too.” She said looking away. “I’ve seen some of the images from your mind, but I want to see it for myself.”
Marcus didn’t say anything more about it; he wanted her to see if for herself so she could decide. He’d hope she’d let him have the realm, he would do a lot of changes. He waited for her to speak; she stared at something but didn’t say anything.
“Are you okay Hecta?” he said clearing his throat trying to make the conversation less one-sided.
“Yes, I am just listening to Anabel whine that she is slowly dying and she wanted to have a little more time with the twins.” She said putting her hand to her chin. “I cannot wait until I have an Angel sitting on my shoulder. I can’t wait to squish her like a bug.”
“She will be silent enough, you have to remember we just did the spell.” He said looking away from her. “Don’t worry she won’t be in there forever, she will die like the rest of them. It might take a little longer, but she will be gone.” He said getting up from the table. “Shall I lay with you for a little while, or do you want to go for a walk?”
“I think we could go for a walk, I want to see what this place looks like.” She said getting up from the table. “I only have Anabel’s memories, you kept her locked up most of the time, or kept her within here.”
“Of course she was one wild child if you ask me, she had your temper though.” He said shaking his head. “I guess I don’t have to worry too much then.” He said laughing at his own joke. “I’ll show you my most favorite spot here in the castle.” He said taking her hand and leading her down a hallway and out to the balcony. “This is where I come when I can’t seem to get things right, or I want to think without disruption.”
Hecta walked out onto the balcony, she could see lights throughout the meadow. “Are those actually people living there?” she said pointing towards the lights.
“Yes we have chosen people to come and make this a home for themselves; sometimes we use their babies as soldiers and as meals, or slaves.” He said looking at her. “But we mainly stay here, or go to another realm where we need to go and find things we cannot find here.”
“That makes sense.” She said looking away from him. She felt home there, she felt like she missed a lot, she wasn’t sure what memories were hers and what was Anabel’s
. “What about the angels what do you do about them?” she said looking back at him. “I know they are going to come here and try and stop whatever we have planned, we need to make sure we get things moving so things don’t get all messed up.” She said shaking her head. “I think you need to figure out how to bring more demons here, we’re going to need help in the vampire realm, you know they are not just going to let us have what we want.”
“Yes I know, I am worried about that as well, but I have a feeling we’ll be able to do a lot more there then we’re expecting.” He said touching her arm.
“If not we’ll work around it, we’ll make sure we have the upper hand, we don’t want to lose demons we want to gain them.” She said walking away from him. “I cannot wait until my full strength returns.” She said walking over to the window, she wanted to walk but the rain depressed her beyond anything, she just wanted to sulk. “I am powerless for now.” She said looking at him.
“For now yes.” He said shaking his head.
“So I have the meeting set with the Council.” Victor appeared near the fire. “I figured I’d break up the pity party before it happened.” He said looking at Hecta. “You have lost your spark haven’t you?”
“Quiet you!” Marcus growled. “She is still waking up, it takes time for these things, if you want her strong, and you should have been here to make sure it happened that. I had to perform the ritual with one other, we need three. So I wouldn’t press your luck!” he said walking towards Hecta.
“When is the meeting with the Council?” Hecta said looking at him. “I hope it’s not too far off, I want to get things moving, we have to make sure we can blend when the time is right if we fail again, I don’t want to go back into the Box.” She said shaking her head.
“You won’t if you leave me in charge,” Marcus said looking at Victor. They were heading towards a power struggle, Marcus wanted to have the upper hand, but he needed Hecta to want him to be in charge. She needed to set things straight, otherwise, there was going to be a battle, and Victor would die.
“Well, we’ll see who gets what I want first.” She said looking at the two demons. “First comes first served isn’t that our motto down here?” she said shaking her head.
“Possibly, if you want this to become a game for headmaster fine,” Victor said looking at Marcus. “You are going to lose if you want to play that game.” He said looking at the smaller demon. “I’ve been through more then you have, I know how to get out of situations that you probably will fail on.” He said crossing his arms. “I guess it’s time to up my games a little.” He said looking at Hecta.
“Either one of you fails me, you die understand?” she said walking away from the window. “The first thing you two need to get me is the twins and I want Carlos, but Dremis is supposed to bring me him. Whoever brings me both, will be in charge while I’m gone.” She said looking at them.
“I think I should have an advantage already Hecta, I brought you, Jerden,” Marcus said looking at Victor, he crossed his arms. “I also made sure you were summoned here, and you had a strong enough host.”
“Yes, that is in fact correct.” She said looking at Victor. “I guess you are going to have to set up your game if you want to win, or even have a chance.” She said looking at Marcus. “Soon my love.” She said stroking his cheek. “When is this meeting with the Council?” she said looking back at Victor.
“In a few days, apparently they are not on their realm right now.” He said shaking his head. “But they are eager to meet you Hecta, I’ve told them all about you, and I told them you had some good plans for their realm if they allowed us to run it.”
“Good that means we can start planning on who we take as demons and who I make as slaves.” She said looking at Marcus. “This is where I need you to make sure things don’t get messed up. Victor, you are to stay here, I will take Marcus and talk with the Council.”
“But I should be the one to go,” Victor said shaking his head. “I am the one they are expecting to be there with you.” He said looking at Hecta. “Please allow me to go with you, if not it might make things worse for us.”
“I am not sure it is wise for you to go with us Victor, it might make things worse yes.” She said shaking her head. “Are you going to play nice, or am I going to have to show you how mean I really am?”
“I will play nice, but Marcus’ and my deal is still in place, when you announce your return I think you should also announce your general.” He said looking at Marcus.
“I think you are correct in that.” She said looking at Marcus. “I think I will wait and see what you two come up with, once that is done I will announce who will be my general.” She said walking away from the two men standing there.
