4. Terror of serial killer

2141 Words
Under the drizzling sky, the street lamp light stood illuminating the dark street of Adams Well, EH13 0FA. It was the mid night, all the shops were shut down since the weather forecast has predicted heavy rain fall for the coming two days.  The shop owners of the shops on the Adams well have all closed down their shops and home except, one. St. Paul's Chemist's owner, Mrs. Wilbert sat on the counter all alone in her store. It was an old chemist shop that kept twenty four by seven. And today, they were just following the same routine. Harsh winds floated by. The rain drops hit Mrs. Wilbert's face as she sat impatiently in her stool while her eyes glared out on the dark street. "Where is this girl, will she even come or not!" she talked to herself while looking at the clock on the wall on her left side. She was an old woman who has hired an employee to work in her place during the night time. And currently she was waiting for her only however, there was no sign of her arrival. "Should I wait or just close the shop and leave for tonight?" she asked herself, her eyes narrowed as the winds became harsh and strong that even the board of her chemist shop kept across her counter on the street flew and fell over a metre away. She got up to get it inside. Just by the look of her face it seemed she was an old lady with low eye sight and lack of energy. She took more than a minute to pull herself out of her seat and try to come out. "I am sorry... I am late!" Mrs. Wilbert was about to go out when she heard a female voice talking from the counter. "Oh Jenny! Where have you been, what took you so long?" She asked seeing the woman pick up her board and place it on the counter of her chemist shop. The woman, Jenny, was an average looking woman seemingly in her mid twenties. Her smiling eyes showed she was a good person at heart and the way her lips smiled with a sorry expression, Mrs. Wilbert knew, there has to be a reason to her late coming. The beautiful woman was going through the worst phase of her life after all. "I am sorry Mrs. Wilbert, it's just that.... Uh, some issues." she looked down on the board placed on the counter, her lips pursed together clear showing she must have experienced another heated argument with her ex-husband. "Oh honey, I feel so sorry for you. I don't know what does that bastard wants from you now after he almost destroyed you with a divorce! I hope your twins are okay" Mrs. Wilbert sympathize her as a lone tear appeared scrolling on Jenny's cheek. She wiped it away and smiled at Mrs. Wilbert with a light nod. "Oh no, it is fine. My kids are well. And you guessed it right, i had a fight with Austin. But that is okay... That is okay." she smiled wanting to change the topic. Mrs. Wilbert sensed her uneasiness, she nodded her head in yes and came out of the chemist shop after collecting her belongings that she would bring every day with her. It consisted of an umbrella, a side bag with tissues and some packets of chip. "Okay honey, I will take your leave. But please don't dishearten yourself, I am sure you will get your justice and that bastard will be punished by the God. Even after eight months of divorce he's still bothering you." expressing her thoughts towards Jenny's damaged relationship Mrs. Wilbert caressed her cheek. "I wanted to close the shop but you see, we are the only pharmacists on this street, we have to keep open." Mrs. Wilbert reasoned. "Any which ways if the stormy winds increases, just close down and leave. I will ask my son to take the keys from you by tomorrow." she added.  "Okay Mrs. Wilbert. Walk safe." Jenny bid a bye to her employer and say on the chair before the counter. She saw Mrs. Wilbert's figure vanishing in the dark night and sighed resting her head back on the chair. The day had been tiring. Getting up from the chair she caught a bottle of water from the refrigerator storing chocolates and water bottles for sale and gulped down a few sips. Once she was done she walked back to the counter, however, "Oh my god!!!!" her heart skipped a beat seeing an oddly looking man standing on the counter. He wore all black clothes. Jenny tried to get a glimpse of his face but to no avail. He had a big hoodie put on which covered her face. Much to her concern, he was also wearing gloves and a black totally wet bag hung on his shoulder over his back. "Sorry to scare you, but can I get some aspirins? I have been looking for a pharmacy from past two hours, my head aches badly. Please can I... Get some... Aspirins?" In an eerily monotonous voice that interloper spoke, his head never looked up hence scaring the s**t out of Jenny's body. " Uh oh... Ohkay, give me a second." Jenny replied and turned around to attend the big cupboard across her with too many drawers, but before that she pressed a red button behind the monitor kept in the left of the chemist that activated the CCTV camera. She was busy searching through one drawer to another finding aspirin. Even though she had been working here for three months, she could not remember that once every month the drawers supposedly gets cleaned up and the places of the medicines shuffles. "Aspirins... Aspirins!" she murmured and failed to notice the man standing on the counter remove his bag from the back and place it on the counter. He saw Jenny searching through the drawers while his hands worked in removing something from the bag. "Here! Here, they are." Listening jenny squeal in joy on finding the Aspirins, the man hurried and pulled out a big sharp machete from his bag. "Here are your aspi— Aahhh!" As soon as Jenny turned around she saw the man sitting on the counter and flashing a big knife before his face. Freaked out at the incident, just as she attempted to run inside the store room and escape via the back door, the man took a leap and yanked her behind. "What are you up to, honey?" The oddly looking interloper said in a creepy tone and the next thing he does was— slit Jenny's neck and rip her clothes open. ***** "Huhhh!" Inaya woke up with a jerk. She had a bad nightmare yet again, however this one was different from the last one. She respired heavily whilst her eyes looked here and there. "Inaya! You are awake!" Inaya gulped her saliva on finding her aunt stand at the door step with a tray in her hands. Vrushika walked inside and placed the tray on the table next to Inaya's bed and sat on the edge beside her on the mattress. "Where is Shikha?" Inaya asked blankly, she just wanted to say something and she could not find any other and better question than this, that she could ask her aunt. "Shikha! She is in her room, playing Pubg." Vrushika replied and took the tray in her lap. "Now come on, sit calmly and have this soup, you did not eat anything ever since you returned from the hospital." Vrushika stirred the soup with the spoon and blew at it as it was hot. However, Inaya sat dumbstruck over her behaviour. Her aunt never talked to her nicely and here, she was in fact bringing soup for Inaya as if she was her own daughter. She was feeling so pissed off of all the situations that her mind spun. And when Vrushika brought a spoonful of soup before her lips, she jerked her hand away and came out of the bed shouting, "Why are you acting so nice with me? I don't know what is playing in your head. Please don't do this, I can't digest it your sweet nature." Inaya panted. Her eyes suddenly watered. Hardly had it been a day to her discharge from the hospital. And only a few hours from waking up from the coma and already she was getting to experience back to back shocks. "If you are doing this for the property Riyan transferred in my name then sorry, stop dreaming about it as I am not going to give you even a penny from it." With that being snapped on Vrushika's face, Inaya ran out of her room while a perplexed Vrushika gritted her teeth seeing timid Inaya's daring stunt. "How dare she talk to me like that!!!" Vrushika grumbled still staring the door which Inaya passed through. ~~~ With a disturbed mind Inaya scurried to the hall of her old house. Her steps eventually slowed down reaching the couch. She stared the sofa set spread across in the hall before the television and her lips curved into a smile. The smile was of happiness, grief, anxiety and sooth amidst all the bad memories she had so far. For a moment, Inaya went in her past before she got married and recalled the time as in, how she used to sit here with her uncle and watch news. They even watched cricket match together and supported almost the same teams. Nevertheless, right now, it just looked as a beautiful dream before a bad period of life that started in Inaya's life. And to her surprise, her uncle was sitting on the sofa, watching TV just like before. "Another unexplainable murder case occurred in Edinburg. Inaya let out the breath which she had held in her throat and blinked her eyes as the reporter on the TV channel announced for the break. "Don't know what's going on in this city now!" Mohit announced shaking his head in no, he switched the channel and sipped a gulp from his cup of tea. "Vrushika... Vrushika go and check on Inaya, has she waken up or not!" Inaya laughed under her breaths seeing her uncle act as the same old him— caring for her like previous times. Her uncle was unaware that she was standing right behind him. Inaya inhaled a deep breath before she tip toed towards him. "Vrushika, are you listening to m—" earlier than he can complete that sentence as a whole, he sensed two arms shaking around his neck and lock in his chest in the front. Mohit was caught off guard when he saw the fabric of the clothes covering beautiful slender arms of a girl, just by the look of them, he knew it belonged to her, his neice, his pride, Inaya. "I am here uncle!" Between her tearing eyes, Inaya smiled and hugged her uncle close. She closed her lashes tight and felt him close to her. "Your Inaya is finally here." She so missed him all those days when she was away from him in a differently another country. She missed him even though her in laws loved her like their own daughter.
