The Elite Academy is not for Me

The letter from the Academy

My name is Reina Jordan. Age, seventeen. Back when I hadn’t died, I was living a very good life as a high school student. But my life ended in a tragedy. Now, don’t make me start with that again. I don’t like to talk about my life with a stranger.

So after a lot of trouble, the results of the exam which I had taken at the academy came out.

The letter arrived at my house in the morning.

The maid came to the living room, carrying the letter in her hands.

Dad and I sat in the living room, snacking on cookies with tea.

‘’ Young master, there is this letter from The Magic Academy. It’s the results of the entrance examination which the young lady took. You should check this.’’

I almost spilled the tea in my mouth. Dad also gave a surprised look back to the maid.

He puts down the cup and stands up right away.

‘’ Hand it to me right away.’’

The maid gave it to him. I also stand up right away, to hear the news from his mouth.

When he was opening the letter, his hands were shaking.

When the paper was open in front of him, his eyes stuck to it.

I could guess what might have been the results of the exam, his face was giving away everything.

It’s better to run away from here when I have the chance.

I looked behind and slowly exit the room. I was one step away before I could place my foot on the other side of the door, dad called.

‘’ Reina, where might you be going?’’.

His tone was serious and deep at the same time. If anyone had heard him then he surely would have become afraid of him.

‘’ D-dad, I feel thirsty. Going to get some water,’’ I reach my hands towards the knob.

But then someone grabbed a hold of my collar from behind, stopping me in my tracks.

‘’ Could it be, that you are trying to escape so that you won’t have to see the results?’’ asked her dad from behind.

‘’ W-what? No…why would I do that for? I don’t even want to see it,’’ I murmured hard enough for him to hear.

‘’ I see, but you have to see it with your own eyes. Come here,’’ he dragged her back to where I was sitting previously.

He shoved it into my hands. I stare at it with an empty gaze on my face.

I started scanning through the letter.

‘’ Read it aloud,’’ said Dad, with his arms crossed in front of his chest.

‘’ F-fine, now what do we have here?’’.

‘’ Dear Reina Jordan, you have successfully passed the entrance examination of The Elite Academy of Magic. And now we officially accept you as one of the students here. The Academy will start within two days. Your uniform and everything you need to study will be delivered to your house, and the students from the Academy are instructed to stay in a hostel provided by the academy cause that’s the easiest way to commute and mostly all the students do that. So if you want to stay in the hostel then you need to move all of your necessary items to the academy within one day.’’

‘’ And last but not least, welcome to the Elite Academy of Magic, we welcome students with open arms who have the potential for magic. We hope you will have a good time here. Looking forward to seeing you at the opening ceremony.’’

The glass in the maid’s hands fell onto the floor right away, hearing that.

‘’ Master, she got accepted. She got accepted,’’ she was screaming.

‘’ Yes, I’m feeling touched by this myself,’’ replied dad, shaking the hands of the maid.

I could hardly believe it myself.

‘’ I…I…I did it, second life, I did it, I had passed the exam,’’ I yelled loud enough for anyone passing by our house to hear.

‘’ I’m getting teary-eyed. My daughter finally managed to pass the exam,’’ my dad was crying.

‘’ I’m happy master, but the letter said that she needs to go to the hostel. Will, you be able to live without her staying at the house?’’.

The maid’s words made dad stare at her face.

He turned to me.

‘’ You will leave?’’ he asked, his voice resonating in the air.

I hadn't realized this myself till now, that dad loves me so much.

     In my previous life, I had both mom and dad by my side, but still, I was living a pathetic life.

During the evening, I was watching the pictures of my childhood and stared at the window.

My attention was broken by the noise of someone opening the door.

It was dad, who came in through the door.

‘’ Are you inside Reina?’’.

‘’ Dad, come in.’’

I placed away from the picture book under the pillows.

‘’ I had something to talk about with you,’’ said dad taking a seat beside me.

His expressions and behavior look a little bit different than before. As if he had to make up his mind a lot before coming here.

‘’ Reina,’’ he called placing his hand on top of her hand.

‘’ You know, I was the one who forced you to take the exam. But, I can’t take the fact that you will be going away from our house.’’

I thought this was my perfect chance not to attend the Academy without angering dad. My heart was leaving out of my chest out of excitement.

‘’ Still, I have decided that it’s time that I let you go and live your life. And this is what I’m gonna do. You will be going to the Academy to live a prosperous life as a magician which I didn’t want to become after the death of your mom. I have discarded that life. But you don’t have to do that. You have the opportunity.’’

‘’ And I know you can make it work. Don’t you want to do that Reina? To lead a successful career as a magician and become renowned?’’.

His words left me speechless. My mom was a magician also? But I don’t have any magic powers do I? maybe I should ask him about it.

‘’ Dad,’’ I placed both of my hands on top of his.

‘’ I understand your concern. I know you are having a hard time letting me go. But, the most important thing here is, I don’t know how to use magic.’’

‘’ What?’’.
