Chapter 5
After breakfast the men had an exercise period which consisted of walking laps around the Great Hall. Some men jogged, others walked at a brisk pace while the rest completed their circuits at a pace akin to a stroll through the park on a summer’s day. Matthew took the opportunity to examine the two plain wooden doors on the far side of the hall.
“Which door do you reckon those Forbidden Doors are behind?” asked Matthew, noting that neither door had any distinguishing features.
Douglas, walking beside him, replied, “I know one of them is supposed to lead to the Master’s quarters so I guess the other one is the door ya want. But don’t ask me which is which.”
“Surely someone has seen the Master coming and going.”
“Not as far as I know.”
