Chapter 10

The Wolf got out of the bag...

I knew they will find my books but I wanted them to talk about it if they were suspicious. I caught them reading my books about werewolves and when they noticed me it was very difficult to put on a poker face, they looked like three little boys caught red-handed.

- Guys dinner is ready. Come on! - Little hesitatingly they followed me to the dining room. We sat down next to the table I sat in front of Ryder, close to the kitchen.

- Good appetite! Dig in guys! 

- Sorry what is this? It smells really good by the way. - Matthew asked.

- Excuse Matt please he is a culinary fool. - Ryder tried to make it less strange the situation

- This is chicken paprikás with a little twist. My family used to put some cream or sour cream in it always. You won't get it this way in any restaurant and it is served with traditional noodles. I hope you like meat! - I got Ryder's glance while I said that. They tried the dish and seemed to enjoy it. When we finished I cleaned the table and while I was in the kitchen I heard them whispering and Ryder growled again so I hurry back with the cake.

- This is Somlói galuska. It's a traditional dessert here. I hope you will like it is the first I made in my life, but I have brownies as well if it’s not good enough. - They dig in and lick their mouth after every bite.

-This is heavenly, thank you so much for this dinner. - Ryder accomplished me! I felt incredibly silly. I knew I was blushing but couldn't take my eyes off him.

- My pleasure. Now if you want we can go out somewhere or just stay in and watch a movie, you can obviously leave as well if you want to. -I laughed and waited for their decision. Although I would've been very disappointed if they wanted to leave so early.

- Let's just stay in with a movie and some chat. -Ryder chose to stay more! YAY! My heart almost jumped out of its place, but I kept calm from the outside, and with a smile I said.

- Great choice, please guys choose something, I will wash the dishes in the meanwhile.

- Let me help you with them! Matt and Eric can choose a movie without me.

-If you insist. - I went to the kitchen he followed me and we heard Matthew and Eric laughing.

-Why are they laughing? - I asked while starting to wash the plates and Ryder was drying them.

-They are idiots. May I ask you something? - I swallowed and tried to keep calm. Here it comes the chat we need to do…

-Of course.

- Why do you have so many books about paranormal creatures? - Not a straight question,  he is testing me.

- I have always been interested in this kind of stuff and fantasy stories. As you could already notice I'm not ordinary- I laughed and that moment was when he checked me from top till bottom.

- I haven't noticed until now that you have the same style mermaid scale tattoo on your legs as well. Are you so obsessed with them?

- Yes. Ever since I was a little girl I was an outcast. So I hide in these magical worlds. I always hoped that they really exist. - He kept quiet for a bit but I could tell by the expressions on his face that he was thinking if he reveals their secret or not. We finished washing plates and he turned to me.

- Can you come out with me for a second? - I got nervous.

- Yes. - We went out of my door and sat down on the corridor. – What’s up?

- What if I tell you that the stories are all true?

- I would think that the cream or something was out of date and you got food poisoning. - I chuckled trying to hide that I was almost sure about what they are.

- You already knew it.

- If we are thinking about the same thing then yes, but you don't have to confirm it. This is some heavy secret and not just yours. So it’s totally fine for me if you leave me in the dark. - He was looking at me as I were the strange creature. In his eyes, I saw desire and love, lots of love but also fear. He leaned closer to kiss my neck but I stopped him.

- Wait a moment.

- Sorry,  after yesterday I thought that I can kiss you again. - He was holding me close to him I felt his body pressed to mine by my side and with one hand he was caressing my hand.

- Before that - I took his hand off me and he seemed very sad at that moment. I put my hands at the back of my neck and he jumped a little further from me.

- Hey I don't bite. - I took off the silver necklace I got from my parents.

- I just didn't want to hurt you with this. - He looked at me totally amazed and kissed my lips with lust and desire. He also kissed the corner of my neck and at the back of my ear. He whispered very…very low "Mine". But after that, he pulled away.

- Sorry I didn't mean how it sounded.

- I know more or less what it means, but I also noticed that you are battling with yourself. Can I help you somehow? - He kissed me again and sighed.

- You just made my life complicated a lot. - I felt very guilty and pulled away from him. He pulled me close again.

- Listen, Ryder, I don't want to mess with your life. I know you are in love with someone else. I also know that you are very attracted to me because of this thing of yours. But I'm a human, so for now you don't have any duties towards me. You can get up whenever you want and walk away. - He was listening to me carefully and I saw that his eyes filled with sadness and pity.

- I just need some time to think over everything that's all. - I gave him a peck to his cheek.

- Fine, from now on no kisses until you find out what you really desire. I won't be a burden for you.

- Thank you for being so understanding.

-Hey! - I kneed down in front of him. He was still sitting on the corridor floor, I cup his face in my hands. - There is nothing to thank me. You must find your rainbow. But before we go back to the house let me thank you for saving me. - And I hugged him and kissed his lips carefully. We got up and went in. We haven't talked much during the rest of the night which was noticed by Ryder's friends but they remain silent. After the movie, I packed some brownies and they headed back to their hotel. I felt empty I lied to Ryder, I was affected by all this mate thing as well, not as much as I would be if I was a werewolf,  but still it hurt. I looked around my empty home and for the first time in my life silence didn’t give me peace.
