The wolves made way for the Alpha's mother as she made her way toward the tournament ground with Olivia behind her. They were already 15 minutes late due to all they had to handle back in the cave but 15 minutes lateness wouldn't hurt much. Just two of the contestants had fought and lost with two more remaining. Olivia sat on a really uncomfortable stone which had been placed beside Dave who stared on at the match blankly. Perhaps he was deep in thought, she felt. What could he be worried about though? It's been 2 months now and he still couldn't make up for the rough relationship he had with his father. His father had been preparing for this tournament for months now but the efforts of the contestants doesn't seem to bother him at all. Perhaps she shouldn't think too much about this. They have been really close lately and he'd always treated her like a queen. They have barely acted like a couple to each other though because he showed nor interest and doesn't seem to understand how to actually please a woman. Alphas ought to hella romantic. She thought. The only situation she'd see him romantic was when he picked her off the floor with the intention of k********g her. It wasn't a really cool intention to be precise but it actually did move her a lot despite her drunken state.
"What are you thinking about?" She decided to ask after watching him for some few seconds staring at the contestants as if they were being stupid.
"Nothing!"He responded, not even bothering to stare at her. The response was cold but she felt concerned now. Was he fine? What was eating him up now? Was he not the one who concluded he wouldn't be fighting in the tournament anymore? What the heck was going on with him? Not knowing what to do anymore, she removed her focus from him then back on the match. She watched Gor Gor, the strongest wolf in the clan, grip his opponent by the neck and swing him down roughly upon his back. The opponent tried getting up and biting off his fingers as he gripped him harder but he restrained the poor guy as much as he could and gave him a final blow causing him to go unconscious.
"O mine! So much violence" She said to herself as she watched the wolf whim in pain.
"They will be fine. I am coming" Dave responded to her grumble as he jumped up from where he sat and walked into the ground to only one knows where.
"Where is the Alpha going?" His mum asked with concern.
"I don't know" She responded not sure if to be ashamed or carefree about this response. She watched the other wolves pull the injured wolf out of the ring. Gor Gor made his wolf cry and started a show off as the host announced him the winner of the tournament. She saw the streaks of blood on his fur and lips. He must have tore the wolves so bad.
"Why is he so violent? He seems to be one who is capable of killing without any second thought" She asked the Alpha's mum who shook her head.
"It's not that he seems to be like one, he is one who is capable of killing anyone to get his way. No one has ever challenged him before. All those who do, always end up in critical conditions. Those three wolves that lost out there, might end up being like vegetables for months or perhaps never recover"
"What…" Olivia responded in shock. She watched Dave Father give Gor Gor a smirk as the wolf bowed before him with pride. She'd never spoken to the man before nor had the man even bothered to ask after her despite being his son's partner. She'd remembered the last conversation he had with Dave while she got her berries mashed. He had started off a conversation about murdering her in the coming few weeks due to the fast approaching authorization claim they had to get before the other clans see them weak. She'd hear no response from Dave on the issue though but she was very sure he never liked the idea at all. She never saw them speak again after that day. Could she comfort herself by saying Dave could possibly protect her against this cruel act? Perhaps not because he was so focused on attaining a territory than even focusing on her betterment.
"I will like a duo!" She heard a deep voice yell from the direction of the pack of wolves. That must have been Dave's voice. It surely must have been. Well she felt no surprise as she saw Dave walk his way toward the ring in his wolf form looking really fierce as if ready to fight right away. She would have been proud of him at this attempt but with the look of things, Gor Gor knew no passion at all.
"What are you doing Dave? You cannot do this" She tried whispering to him as he walked past her but he ignored anyway. For the first time, she saw his dad sprang from where he sat in anger wondering what the heck was going on.
"Go back where you are to sit Dave" His father warned as he trod towards him.
"You have no say in this dad. I have decided" He responded stubbornly attempting to get into the ring.
"You will be belittled if you do this"
"I have always been belittled. This will make no difference will it"
"Dave, you are the Alpha. Your ranking here is not a joke. If you make any stupid attempt now, you will regret it later"
"Having a territory of my own isn't gonna belittle me…" Dave stopped his speech as he caught sight of someone. His angry look turned to shock. Everyone followed the direction of his stare and caught sight of Dave's brother who had been off to his wife's clan years. He approached them with a big grin as was accompanied by his wife who was all smiles. "Zach…"
"Hey Dave. Long time no see. I can see you are having fun here now" Zach said in sarcasm. Dave nudged him playfully.
"Come on, you know what is going here isn't a joke"
" I have faith in you. Go for it Dave and break the bones of this fierce beast here. I know very well you can do it" His brother encouraged. The father raged even more.
"You useless wolf with a barren mate, why don't you focus on getting us the next Alpha and avoid getting involved in issues that doesn't concern you"
"Gerald!" Dave mum shouted in shock as she stood from where she sat. "You cannot talk to our son like that"
The entire clan stared on speechless. Olivia wasn't sure of what was going on but with the look on Zach's wife's face, she knew whatever was going on was a really private and sensitive matter.
"Go for it bro. You will make a good territory" Zach went on with the encouragement as if he heard nothing. "If our dad doesn't support you, your brother will"
Dave said nothing. He made his way into the ring without even bothering to stare at his father's disappointed look. Olivia could feel her heart racing really fast. Whatever was happening was wrong. What if something happened to him? What if this Gor Gor beast kills him? What if he is suffocated to death? She couldn't help but exaggerate.
"Calm now, miss he will be fine. He isn't new at this" His mum tried calming her down. "Hold on, have you ever seen him fight in rage before? I am not referring to the small cobra incident, I mean real rage?"
Olivia shook her head because she'd not recalled him fighting really violently. He doesn't seem to be like one who is interested in fighting violently. He looked more like one who is after an enthusiastic atmosphere and one who attains peace.
"Since you arrived he has been so calm. Too bad you didn't see him rip off am hyenas heart"
"He told me about that one" She said, trying to imagine how fierce he must have been.
"He told you but you didn't see him do it. This fight will definitely sweep you off your feet because you're gonna see a different side of him"
The host stared at the Alpha wondering if it was right to go on or not. With the look on his face, he doesn't seem to agree this was a good idea. Dave threw him a harsh stare causing him to sound the drum immediately.
"You have come to your doom Alpha" Gro Gro bullied charging up. Dave said nothing.
"His silence is always dangerous. Everyone takes it as his weakness"Olivia heard his mum whisper to her amidst the silent environment. "He never charges first"
Gro Gro raced towards him with an intention of scratching him right on the cheeks with his claws but Dave was smart enough to dodge and push him off with his head. Gro Gro went crashing onto the ground. This got him really furious. He charged up again and raced furious towards him but this time being very careful. With quick reflex, he sprunged him up high into the air using his head ensuring he had least expected it. Dave fell down flat on his face causing everyone to panic.
"He will definitely die," Olivia said silently to herself.
"A little bruise doesn't make an Alpha"
Olivia couldn't believe she had just said that. Was she not scared for her son's life now?
As if he wasn't pushed to the ground, Dave picked himself up and exchanged a really raging gaze with this enormous wolf. He was really furious now. He circled round him slowly still exchanging gazes at him with Gor Gor staring at him with a cautious look. Gor Gor launched at him with great speed grinding his teeth and making a growling sound but he'd least expect him to seize his hind legs with his claws causing him to fall scratching his fur on the rough soil. Dave proceeded to bite off his neck with his sharp fangs but Gor Gor spat straight into his eyes causing him to whelp in pain getting distracted. Taking advantage of this, Gor Gor threw at his face a large dust and hit him straight on his stomach with his hing legs causing him to go flying out of the ring. Everyone gasped in worry and began to wonder what the heck was going on.
"We need to stop this please" Olivia pleaded to his mum who didn't seem moved.
"A few bruises doesn't make an Alpha. He is tough"
"What do you mean a few bruises? He is bleeding. We have to stop this" She insisted and jumped out of her seat. The woman restrained her immediately grasping her hand really tightly causing a hinder in her blood flow. She felt a very sharp pain on her wrist forcing her to sit.
"You have to be patient with him. He isn't an Alpha for no reason"
"But he is hurt. He can't get up"
"That is what you think"
Dave laid on the ground panting and feeling really weak. He tried pushing himself up but could hardly do that, Gor Gor approached him with a smirk ready to give him his final blow. He opened up his mouth showing his sharp fangs and proceeded to bit his head off with it. Tired of watching all this injustice, Olivia rushed off toward the ring without thinking twice.
"Please stop! Leave him alone!" She pleaded. What happened next got her really baffled as she opened her mouth I'm aghast. Dave had pushed Gor Gor down by the neck with his fist and poked his eyes with his sharp claws causing him to howl in pain. Blood oozed out the eyes of the beast as he pleaded to see again.
"Dave, it's enough. You will get him blind" Olivia pleaded to him as he went on striking his claws in the wolf's eyes. He'd feel reluctant to do that with the amount of anger he felt but due to her voice and the amount of guilt he'd feel for being unable to control his anger, he let the guy go and stepped out of the ring. He turned back to his human form with so many bruises on his skin and his eyes, being bloodshot.
"It's all black! It's all black! Please help. I can't see" Gor Gor screamed out in pain as his eyes continued to bleed. Dave walked away from the tournament ground not even bothering to know who the winner was or what the outcome of the fight was. Olivia followed, wondering what he could be going true. Could he be feeling devastated right now? Dave stopped in front of the river and gazed at it looking disturbed and angry with himself.
"Are you feeling alright?" Olivia asked after a few minutes of silence.
"Just go. I want to be alone" he informed her with a harsh tone.
"You know I won't leave you even if you say I should. Everyone is worried for you. We want to know what's going on in your mind. Especially your mum" she lied trying to cover up the fact she was actually the only one concerned for him at that moment.
"I have issues with my anger. I can't control" he said with so much anger and frustration. "I blinded him. I freaking blinded the poor guy"
"Dave, you were only defending yourself. I am sure he would have done the same if he had this chance. This is a fight and
someone has to get hurt eventually"
"Not like this Olivia. Not like this. I have tried so hard to stop being violent these few months because I know it's wrong and there are so many people getting hurt by it but nothing much changes. I still get really enraged due to any small mistakes. I still rip the wolf's head off out of anger. This anger I can't control"
Olivia could feel how frustrated he was. She placed her hand on his shoulder and smiled gently at him.
"What do you want to do now?" She asked. "You want to buckle up your anger and not get angry anymore? Is that what you wish to do? You wish to get an outburst of anger later on causing harm to those around you"
"Olivia no. I promise I don't want that. I have no idea how to handle myself"
"Stare in my eyes"
Dave turned to stare into her beautiful brown eyes. She felt her heart beat faster as she'd never seen him stare so deep in her eyes before but she tried so hard ignoring the feeling she got. Was it romantic or was it just shyness? Why was she getting carried away by his stare? "Anytime you get really angry, remember the cubs you love so much and think of what they would think if they see you carry out the act you carry out when you are enraged. Take a deep breath and learn how to let go" She advised placing her hand carefully on his cheeks.
"Will it work?" He asked lost in her gaze. His eyes went straight to her lips and then her hair. He raised his hands slowly and began to fondle it.
"Yes. Yes it will" she responded feeling herself get engrossed in the feeling she had. A very intense feeling. A very deep connection. The feeling of his hand on her hair meant so many things to her and it was certainly one she had never felt before ever.
"Dave!" His mum called from behind them, breaking the beautiful moment they were having together. He got really startled by this and backed away immediately. "You have been allowed to start up your own territory"
For the first time, Olivia saw him smile very broadly. She rarely saw him smile these days but this time he looked really excited about the news. His face got all red with excitement. He stared at her for a short while and pulled her close for a brief hug.
"Thank you" he whispered slowly to her.
"Why?" She asked in confusion.
"I don't know. Just take the thank you as it is" he responded still feeling excited.
Olivia wasn't sure of how to react to this but she patted him slowly on the back. Was she supposed to bring up the discussion on what had happened a few minutes ago when he fondled her hair? Was she supposed to tell him about her heartbeat? Did he actually feel the same way when he stared into her eyes? All this got her really confused and nervous.
"See you later" He told her, breaking up the hug and walking toward the clan. She nodded watching him walk off.
