Chapter Six Jamey stepped off the plane and into the hot, muggy air that was the Flint Hills in August. Maddie had agreed to meet her at baggage claim since she’d had to check the bag with her chef’s knives. Not that it mattered. The airport in Manhattan, Kansas, was so small that the waiting area and baggage claim were essentially the same space.
