~Shanice~
I slowly walk into my sister’s hospital room. She’s in bed with the blanket over her. I let the door close, and it makes a clicking sound. Janice looks over at the door, and I swear I see a flash of disappointment in her eyes. She fixes her gaze quickly, so I can’t be entirely sure.
Janice’s eyes turn soft as I get closer to the bed. “Sister…..” Janice holds her hand out to me, and I carefully take it. I rake my eyes up and down her body, but there’s nothing to see. She has no injuries and no lasting scars. Janice isn’t hooked up to any machines. It’s almost as if there’s nothing wrong with her at all.
“How are you feeling?” Janice gives me a small smile.
“I’m okay,” she says in a soft voice. “I was terrified, to be honest. I wasn’t sure I’d survive. I know I’ll feel better when Jax gets here. You will always feel better with your mate around.” I notice the slight smile on her face. I drop her hand, and Janice looks at me, confused.
“Stop it.” Janice sits up in bed.
“What do you mean? What’s wrong?” My hands are at my sides, clenching and unclenching.
“You need to stop….this whole thing about you and Jax….” Janice swings her legs to hang off the side of the bed, feet touching the floor.
“Shanice, I don’t understand. I told you why we came here. I told you that Jax asked me to come here, and he is taking me as his chosen m-”
“ENOUGH!” I’m breathing heavily, trying to keep Lola a bay. She is aching to be released so she can go after Janice. I know I can’t let her have control. “I know you’re lying, but I just can’t figure out why. I don’t understand why you are trying to tell me that you and Jax will be together. That’s absolutely not true.”
“Why, huh? Why isn’t it true? Do you think he wants you? Do you think he wants to accept you? You are nothing compared to me. Besides, I had him first. He knows exactly what I can do with my body, and he always came back for more. Even if he does accept you, what will make him stay out of my bed? Trust me when I say, if he comes knocking, I will let him in.” What the entire f**k?! I know my sister, and I have never been close, but who the hell is this person sitting in front of me now? I never knew her to be so vile, so ugly.
I can’t contain Lola anymore. I let a growl rip through the room before turning on my heel and rushing out. I can hear Janice’s laugh behind me. I tear through the clinic, and I head to the forest the minute I get outside. When I get to the tree line, I strip out of my clothes and shift into Lola, letting her take over.
~Janice~
That little b***h! Who the hell does she think she is? She really thought I would feel threatened or I would back off of Jax. I came here for a reason: for Jax and a new life. I won’t allow her or anyone else to keep me from what I want.
I turn in the bed, trying to figure out what I need to do to get Shanice away from Jax. I meant it when I told her that I would never turn him away if he tried to get in my bed, whether he accepted her or not. The issue is that I don’t think he would come looking for me in that circumstance.
Maybe I have to find a way to get him in bed with me. If Shanice finds us sleeping together, that may be enough to get her to let go of Jax. It isn’t like we haven’t slept together before, so it shouldn’t be hard to accomplish. I know that Jax and Shanice are mates but haven’t completed the bond. Besides, Jax wouldn’t be the first person I’ve had that had their mate at home. It really isn’t that hard to turn against the mate bond, though everyone swears it’s nearly impossible.
The door opens and closes. I make sure I have my face on, knowing it will be Jax. I can use this time to seduce him. I turn in the bed, and my face drops. It’s that green-haired heffa. I sigh and maneuver on my back and stare at the ceiling. “I see you’re looking better. How are you feeling?”
“What do you want?”
“I’m checking on you and wanted to see if you had any information we can use to find who did this to you.”
“Just send Jax in here. I won’t talk to anyone else.” I can feel her getting closer to me. I don’t take my eyes off the ceiling.
“You WILL talk to me.” I turn in her direction and sit up in the bed.
“And who, exactly, do you think you are? I won’t speak to anyone other than Jax. You can run along and get him here.” She comes right to the side of the bed, and a smirk graces her face. All of a sudden, a weight falls over me. My wolf, Bex, whimpers in my head and I have no choice but to submit to this b***h.
“I’m the Gamma of this pack, and you will show me the proper respect. You will deal with me and only me. If you insist on continuing your disrespectful attitude, you will find yourself recovering in the cells instead of this clinic. By the way, it’s Beta Jax to you.” As quickly as it appeared, it went away…..her Gamma aura was reeled back in, and I felt light again. “Now, what can you tell me about what happened?”
