Chapter 19

1415 Words
~Melanie~ Nothing about Janice’s story makes any sense. As tight as our borders are, she’s claiming that rogues infiltrated our pack, unnoticed and attacked her randomly. Nothing about that makes any sense. Nothing about that seems logical. I decide not to inform Jax or the Alphas because there’s nothing new to say. Something is definitely fishy with this entire story, and I need to figure out what that is. Gamma, we have a wolf out in the forest. Is it a rogue? I don’t think so. I may be one of our new inhabitants. Maybe it’s Shanice. I noticed that she wasn’t in the room with Janice. Just keep an eye on them. It may be our Beta female. Just make sure she stays safe. We really need to get some cameras set up on packlands. We discussed doing this once everything settled down. My kidnapping and Brooky’s disappearance demonstrated the need for surveillance, even in the forest. I know we haven’t gotten around to it, but I’m going to bring it up again. It may be useful when we least expect it. I make my way to the packhouse and upstairs. I stop in Alpha’s office, where I find Jayden. He’s usually upstairs with the family by now. I lightly tap on the door frame, and he looks up from his desk, motioning me in. “Hey, Melanie. Do we have any news?” I sigh and walk to his desk. “We have as much as we had before, nothing. I think there’s something off about Janice’s story. I can’t put my finger on it yet, but nothing she claims makes any sense.” “I don’t want to suspect her without cause. She’s come from a pretty tough pack and I don’t want to act like them. Let’s just keep our eyes open and we’ll take it from there.” I nod and say goodnight, heading to my floor. I’m exhausted and can’t wait to sleep. ~Janice~ That b***h! I can’t believe I had to deal with her for thirty minutes. She kept asking me question after question, and it was annoying. I’m pretty sure she isn’t buying my story, but she hasn’t flat-out accused me of anything yet. I need to find a way to get my plan moving before I’m removed. The doctor came to check on me, after that heffa left, and asked me to stay the night for observation. I told him I would, but I lied. I don’t have time to stay here; I need to get some stuff going. I check the window and find that it opens easily and isn’t linked to any type of alarm. I wait a while to make sure people were done popping in and out of my room. I quietly open the window and slip out, closing the window behind me. I run in the dark to the cottage I’m staying in. This plan requires a wardrobe change if I want it to work. I get in the cottage and hop in the shower. I make sure everything part of me is shaved and plucked. I wanted to wait until things cooled down for this, but now would be the best time with that witch breathing down my back. I look through my things until I find what I am searching for. It’s a one-piece, lace bodysuit with a deep V in the front and back. It’s considered a teddy, and the bottom is open at my core. I bought two, this one being a deep red color. I lotion up, paying attention to all the hidden spots, and carefully place the outfit on. I pair it with some 5-inch, black patent leather peep toe stilettoes. I put on a jet-black, 24-inch loose wave wig. I make sure to part it down the middle, allowing the hair to cover my breasts gently. I grab an overcoat and put that on. I don’t want anyone to see my outfit other than Jax. I close up the cottage and head to the packhouse. I haven’t seen Shanice since she left my room in the clinic. I hope she isn’t with Jax right now, though she probably isn’t. Shanice isn’t the type to jump into bed with someone like that, even if he is her mate. I take a deep breath and enter the packhouse. This will take stealth and finesse, but it’s nothing I can’t handle. ~Jax~ A part of me wanted to go find Shanice. I’m sure she’s with her sister in the clinic, but I thought better of it. I should let her tend to her sister right now. We have all the time in the world to be in each other’s presence. I thought about checking in with Melanie, but honestly, she can handle this. It’s a minor issue that can be quickly taken care of. It makes no sense to put a lot of eyes on it. I head to my floor and enter my apartment. I see that Kehlani and Kamila have left already. I figured they wouldn’t stay long after I ran after Shanice. The leftover pizza has been put away, and I have to remember to thank Kehlani for that later. I just have to clean up a few things. I like to wash dishes as I cook, so I have less of a mess when I’m done. I finish cleaning the kitchen and head to my room to take a shower. I let the hot water fall over me while replaying my day. I found my fated mate and finally spoke to her today. I loved every second of being with her. I got to know so much about her, and I know I barely scratched the surface. My mind kept drifting to the physical attributes that Shanice has. Her plump lips were killing me all evening. I just wanted to feel them and see if they felt as soft as they look. I hate that our kiss was interrupted; I just wanted to taste her. I can feel myself hardening the more I think of Shanice. Her trim body does things to me. I imagine my hands slapping her cheeks while I pound her from behind. I reach my hand down; my destination is my erection. A loud crash jolts me just as I get it in my hands. I quickly jump out of the shower, grab a towel and wrap it around my waist. I throw the bathroom door open, but I don’t see anything. I turn the light on in the room and look around, wondering what made that noise. My room door flies open just as my eyes notice a lump under the blankets. “KAMMI?!” I hear the giggle and walk over to the bed, throwing the covers back. Once Kamila sees that she’s been found, she laughs hysterically. “I swear to the Goddess above!” I can’t help but laugh as Kamila jumps into my arms. “You are making your mother crazy, pickles.” Kamila snuggles against me as Kehlani looks like she wants to commit mass murder. “I just can’t with her! She’s making me crazy. It’s like she’s allergic to our floor or something.” I chuckle. “She just loves her Uncle J, is all.” I stroke Kamila’s hair as she wraps her tiny arms around my neck. “Come, child. It’s time for bed.” Kehlani reaches for Kamila, but she leans away from her. Kamila looks at me, and my heart stops. Her bottom lip is quivering, and tears are building in her eyes. “Sweep Ukl Dax.” I just can’t take it. This girl has me wrapped around her finger, and I’m not ashamed. I shake my head and hold her close. “Just go, Red. We will have a sleepover tonight.” Kehlani sighs. “Are you sure? I know how much you like to sleep alone.” I smile. “Look at her face. I just can’t tell her no.” Kehlani hits me lightly on the arm. “I love you, man. I couldn’t do this without you.” Kehlani kisses me on the cheek and kisses Kamila goodbye. I place Kamila in my bed, pillows on one side so that she won’t roll onto the floor. Kamila gets comfy while I put some sweats and a top on. I climb into bed with my niece and fall asleep once her breathing evens.
