Chapter 7

1137 Words
~Janice~ My eyes feel heavy, but I know I need to open them. I can hear my phone alarm going off, and I have a big day today. It’s finally time to claim what’s mine, and I won’t miss this opportunity. I roll across the bed to grab my phone and turn off my alarm. I notice a few missed calls and some texts. Last night was crazy, to say the least. After the debacle at Summit Mountain, I needed to blow off some steam. I found my way to a werewolf bar, where I drowned my troubles with the strongest werewolf liquor I’ve ever had. I also met some chill people, a few of whom I made out with, if I remember correctly. As much fun as I had, it’s time to focus. I can’t let temporary fun distract me from what I’m trying to do. I finally drag myself out of bed and prepare to take a shower. I notice that Shanice’s bed is empty, which is odd. She slept so much yesterday, I was sure I’d have to drag her out of bed today. She has to show up with me, or my man won’t see me. The door opens, and Shanice stands in the doorway with a donut in one hand and a cup in the other. She’s up and fully dressed, so I guess I’m running behind. I’m about to turn from her when I notice her clothing. She’s wearing a pair of skinny red jeans that shape her ass really well. She’s wearing a black v-neck sweater and some black boots. Her makeup is done lightly, and every hair is in place. She looks like she dressed with a purpose, and I wonder what that purpose may be. I say nothing but head to the bathroom to get myself together. I shower quickly because I want to hurry to the packhouse. I emerge from the bathroom, fully done up, and I have to say, I look really good. I went with a blue and black plaid pleated skirt that stopped mid-thigh. I pair it with a black halter top that shows off my cleavage. A push-up bra aids in that department. I zipped up my knee-high, black stiletto boots. I complete my look with a gold chain, gold hoop earrings, and my more ‘girl next door’ wig: blonde hair put into a ponytail with tendrils framing my face. My makeup is on point, and I know no one will be able to resist me. “Let’s go.” I don’t wait for Shanice; I just grab my purse and keys and walk out the door. I can hear her following behind me. We get into the car, and I head to the place where I plan to spend my future. The drive was shorter than yesterday, but that’s probably due to my eagerness. The guards let us through the gate, knowing that we had a meeting. I drive to the packhouse and park in front. I jump out of the car, fixing my outfit. Someone meets us at the door and takes us inside. I assume she works in the house. We head upstairs, and I can hear Shanice’s breathing get deeper. She can’t be this nervous; I mean, that’s just pathetic. I walk into the room with Shanice behind me. Jax is standing there holding that baby, his eyes all over me. I knew this was the best outfit for this. I can hear Shanice shuffle in behind me. She inhales sharply, and a shaky breath comes out. “Mate,” she says softly, and my world starts to crumble. This can’t be happening…….it just can’t be. She can’t be mated to my man; it isn’t possible. I pretend as if I didn’t hear her, and I walk over to Jax. I reach out to touch him, but that brat pushes my hand away. “My Dax!” She is eyeing me up and down, shooting daggers. She is going to be a real problem. Another attractive man steps toward me with his hand out. “Sorry about that. I’m Alpha Jayden, it’s nice to meet you.” I turn to him and give my best smile. I take his hand and respond. “It’s so nice to meet you. My name is Janice Brownwood, and this is my younger sister, Shanice.” I point to my sister, who is standing in the doorway, looking like a statue. I give her a quick look and look at Jax. He looks like he’s already smitten. I need to find a way to keep them apart. ~Shanice~ Oh, my Goddess!! This can’t be real. This isn’t actually happening; it can’t be. There stands that gorgeous man from the website, the Beta of this pack. He looks more handsome than in his picture. He’s standing there with the cutest child in his arms and staring at me. MATE! MATE! MATE! MATE! I got it, Lola. I heard you the first time, but this can’t be right. I can’t be mated to that…..that…..I just can’t. You are…..we are! That’s mate! Lola can’t be wrong. She’s my wolf, the other part of me. She would know if he’s our mate or not, and the scent is a dead giveaway. He smells like cotton and fresh rain. I always love the smell when rain hits; I can never stay inside when it’s raining. I hear my name and notice my sister and the other man looking at me. I don’t know what was said or what I should do. My mate clears his throat and looks at the man. “Uh, I’ll let you have your meeting.” “Aww….you aren’t going to stay?” My sister is twirling the end of her braid around her fingers and trying to pass off a seductive look. “No, you and your….sister can speak with the Alpha. We’ll be going.” My mate starts to walk toward me, and my heartbeat picks up. I swear the air is leaving the room; breathing is getting harder. When he walks past me, his arm brushes against mine, and the sparks almost make me weak in the knees. It takes everything in me to stay on two feet and not melt. “HELLLLOOOOO!!! Would you stop standing there looking foolish and have a seat?!” I turn to find my sister looking irritated and the man, the Alpha, looking a bit worried. They are sitting opposite each other on couches. I take a deep breath, approach an armchair, and sink into it. I can feel my sister glaring at me, but I didn’t mean to embarrass her. I struggle to focus on the meeting before me and not daydream about my mate. This is going to be a long meeting.
