Svetlana pov
Svetlana sat at the bar drinking her Cosmo looking at her phone every so often. She read the text chain between her and her so called wick Alpha Axel. He would ask for her help and she would always run to help him: Svetlana would hope against hope that this time would be different, that Axel would talk to her. Just give her a chance. Nope the bastard would only talk pack business with her, use her for her magical abilities.
Imagine waiting three hundred years for this. Svetlana raised her drink to toasting her imaginary friends.
“Cheers to finally finding my soul mate,” she muttered with a tiny slur and downed the rest of her drink. Svetlana gestured to the bartender for another drink. Today was her daughters birthday and she was doing what she always did since Nat ran away. Svetlana would get completely hammered in a random dive bar, completely wallowing in her guilt.
Axel texted her a couple of hours ago and she ignored him. This was the first time she had ignored him, normally she would teleport right over. Svetlana didn’t have time for his petty pack bullshit. Svetlana thought it best to turn off her phone before she cave and messaged him back. Svetlana waved to the bartender indicating she wanted another drink, he wasn’t responding quickly enough.
“Another cosmo?”
“And another lemon martini,” Svetlana requested and threw down a twenty dollar bill. She of course could magic her own, but it’s not the same. There’s just something about going to a bar and getting a drink that magic can’t recreate.
This is her punishment. Svetlana was so lost in her heartbreak over Luka that she completely ignored her daughter. She didn’t deserve a wick, the way Axel was treating her was what she deserved.
The bartender returned with her cosmo and she started sipping it and reflecting on times past.
When Natasha told her that she was being bullied Svetlana thought it was for being a better witch than her peers. Luka had trained her to take over as coven leader since the time she was five, as his father had done to him.
How was Svetlana to know that Luka was so in love with his wick that he would throw his daughter to the hyenas. The hyenas being his mother and wick herself.
“Keep the drinks coming,” she told the bartender as he set down the lemon martini. Svetlana liked to mix her drinks.
As she was on her sixth or seventh drink she dimly heard the door open. Then she felt him. Luka Volkov had the strongest magic signature unlike she had ever felt before or since. The only rival for his strong aura was Alpha Killian, and she knew that his son would surpass Luka’s aura very soon, if the little boy didn’t already. Liliana kept that boy close, as she should.
Svetlana felt Luka’s eyes on her and got lost in memories. She had been in awe of Luka Volkov since she first saw him as a little girl of twelve. Luka only taught the older children, and when she took his advance classes when she was sixteen Svetlana had the hugest crush on him just like all the other girls.
Svetlana couldn’t believe he was interested in her as well. She knew it was wrong though, and people would talk. When Luka approached her Svetlana denied him. She also wanted to wait for her wick. Luka respected her decision. However, it was several hundred years later when they were on an assignment when the sparks flew and Svetlana just let the chips fall where they may. Who know it would cause the world to burn around them all these years later.
“Hey Fitz,” Luka said as he approached her.
“Don’t call me that, only friends can call me that,” she replied not looking at him. Svetlana continued to drink her drink and pretend like Luka didn’t exist.
“Come on Svetlana I have something important to talk to you about.”
“You know I spend this day alone, please leave.” She told him and Luka let out a heavy sigh.
“Come on Svetlana, where’s your wick? Maybe he can help.” Svetlana let out a crazy little laugh.
“You mean the wick that wants nothing to do with me? Who only uses me because I’m a witch? I’ve lost everything. I lost my daughter because I stupidly believed you would protect her. Then I lost the girls I loved like daughters because my daughter reached out to me with one email and they feel betrayed. I lost everything!” Svetlana started to break out in heavy sobs, as how she normally ended this day.
“Please just come with me! Please!” Luka begged of her. She didn’t deny him, simply continued to sob. Svetlana felt Luka tentatively put his arms around her and she could feel him teleport them somewhere. When Svetlana felt they relocated, she looked around and knew immediately they were in the Midnight Howlers Packhouse.
“Luka, what are we doing here?” She looked around wildly until she saw Liliana. Svetlana was happy to see the young woman who she loved like a daughter, but she didn’t understand why Luka brought her here.
“Svetlana it’s so good to see you! Especially with Nat being back.”
“What do you mean Natasha is here?” Svetlana asked Liliana. Lili looked to Luka,
“You didn’t tell her?” Svetlana looked to Luka.
“Natasha showed up at your home a few days ago. Callum sensed her right away, I gave her a few hours to adjust before I could even walk over there our guards told us two wizards were at our boarder.” Liliana explained diplomatically. Svetlana didn’t even get to appreciate the fact that the woman she considered a daughter was doing so well for her as betrayal ripped through her.
“You are such a bastard Luka Volkov! I hate you!” Svetlana stormed off and teleported to her old home on the edge of the territory. Svetlana could immediately feel that her daughter was in the house and peace settled through her body for the first time in over five years. She waited for her daughter to yell and scream at her, but a minute went by and nothing happened. Then five.
Svetlana walked to her room and listened hard enough that she could hear her breathing was soft. Natasha was sleeping. She never heard anything so sweeter in her whole life.
Alexei pov
Lex woke with Anastasia clinging to him, he thre her off of him and got out of bed.
“Hey!” She screamed out.
“You were supposed to leave when we were done! Now leave!” Lex shouted at her causing Anastasia to tear up. She ran out of his room in tears, but they didn’t affect him they were just crocodile tears, she didn’t care about him, she f****d every single wizard in the coven with a modicum of power. Anastasia like every woman lusted after Luka Volkov, but he had his eyes on two women, well three technically; Julie, Svetlana, and Natasha. In that order.
Lex decided to send Natasha one of those bullshit cute morning messages before he took a shower. Lex quickly showered washing himself and jumped back out of the shower. He jumped out and quickly checked his phone fully expecting to see a message from Natasha. His phone only has a message from Anastasia.
He double checked everything and nope, definitely nothing. Lex saw that she had read his message. She was just ignoring him, what was this feeling? Disappointment? Lex ignored it and threw on some clothes. He went to the kitchen to grab some food only to find everyone there already eating breakfast.
“Are you eating all my food?” He asked.
“So why was Ana crying when she left?” Ivan asked. Lex didn’t respond and stole one of the bastards plate for himself.
“Hey!”
“It’s my damn food!” Alexei shouted at Igor and went to sit down in his dining room. Everyone knew he was in a shitty mood so no one sat next to him except Ivan.
“Well has she moved locations?” Lex asked after he ate most of his breakfast.
“No she’s still in the same location in central Illinois.” Ivan asked not bothering to look at his phone. That meant Ivan had been keeping an eye on her throughout the night. Lex felt a stab of jealousy go through him, he felt Ivan had a small crush on Natasha when they were back at the academy when they were younger. Then Alexei thought Ivan was an i***t for liking that abomination, now Ivan was a threat to him. Speaking of threats Alexei thought of the pack Natasha was hiding out in, and how Luka behaved when he was with the feared coven leader. Lex decided to share his thoughts on the matter, Ivan was smarter than the rest of his friends.
“When we were there Luka was respectful of that pack. I need to figure out why. It makes no sense, he helped them before that makes no sense either.”
“Well Natasha was friends with the Luna,” Ivan pointed out. Alexei thought about it for a moment.
“I think it’s more than that. The alpha was the strongest wolf I’ve ever felt. I don’t think Luka is intimidated but I think he’s hiding something. I want to know what it is.” Lex looked at his phone and sent Natasha another text message.
“Troubles in paradise already?” Ivan asked in a smug tone.
“What?“ he asked.
“Your girlfriend isn’t very smart, and neither are you.” Ivan told him and handed him an iPad. Before Lex could fully examine what was in front of him Ivan continued.
“You forget you used a spell on your wick to get her to comply. A spell that Luka Volkov would recognize the second he saw her,” Ivan said and left the room. Alex didn’t question how he knew about the spell he was too enraged by what he saw.
Anastasia took a picture of them together after he fell asleep and sent it to Natasha. If that wasn’t bad enough it seemed Natasha called him, he never picked up the phone. The call log indicated that it last almost a minute, so some one talked to her.
Alexei was furious! Everything he and his family worked for was in jeopardy because of that jealous b***h! He had to figure out how to salvage this. Lex’s phone started to ring, and he picked it up and checked the ID. “Unknown.” Lex frowned and picked up.
“I hear you want to dethrone Luka Volkov.” The voice on the other end said huskily. Lex couldn’t tell if it was a female or male voice. They were definitely trying to disguise their voice.
“I do.” He confirmed.
“Then I think we can help each other, meet me at Cafe Delux tomorrow at five.”
Unknown pov
He felt it! He felt her after a thousand years of waiting he finally felt his beloved awakening. Now he only had to find her.
Authors note: sorry if you feel like this is spoilers for Svetlana and Axel. But I will most likely not address their mate bond any further in the failed rejection. Maybe a bit on Axel’s pov, but I am leaving the rest on here.
