“IT’S A DINNER PARTY NOT A WEDDING RECEPTION”

2013 Words
“Cream or pure white?” Corinne turned to Meredith. She was meeting with her birthday and engagement planner, her father had wanted everything to go according to Corinne likes hence the meetings with the planner, she scoffs as if that will change anything, no matter what she wants external influences called the royal customs will be added. She did not see any reason why her father had wanted her her to go through the whole hassle. Perhaps to keep me extremely occupied, very very busy. She thought innerly with an inward eye roll. “I think cream works better, it’s a dinner party not a wedding reception” her keeper replied with an exaggerated solemn face they both bursted out laughing “Not like there will be any, anytime soon” she said under her breath, so only she and Meredith could hear. Meredith turned to stare at her like ‘what was she talking about?’ But Corinne pointedly ignored her, in a moment she had slipped and forgotten that not getting married to Carlos anytime soon was something she had planned on hiding from her keeper for as long as she wants. “I think I will go with the cream, rose gold and pink for the decorations” she turned her attention to the planner who was busy peering into magazines scattered about on the table. “Hmm mm” the planner just replied. Corinne was irritated by her response obviously because she knows she will end up doing what she wants. “I would also be happy if the roses are pink in color, I don’t want mixed up colors” the planner replied still yet in the same manner as she did before. Corinne cleared her throat loudly, catching the planner’s attention as she immediately looked up from the magazine she was peering at. “What did you say was your name again?” She assumed her ‘I am a princess and you get to treat me like one’ voice, she rarely uses. “Vanessa, your highness” “Vanessa” she echoed dragging out the last syllable of the name. “Get me a glass of wine, please Meredith” “Okay princess Corinne” Meredith knew the princess was pissed at the planner, damn she also was. The planner could have at least pretended that what the princess is saying counts.“Cream or pure white?” Corinne turned to Meredith. The planner could have at least pretended at least that what the princess was saying counts. Corinne watched Meredith crossed the room to the little bar at the far corner to get what she asked for. She turned her attention back to the planner. “I don’t want to be seated here with you doing all these too” she gestured at the table, “but dear daddy is making me do this, I’m sure you know that already”. Meredith came back with the glass of wine and handed it to her curtsying a little bit, Corinne nodded at her. She took a big sip and continued talking to the planner with a pointed look “you should better act like you’re interested in this and in sitting down with me going over little details”. She took a drink again and crossed her long legs letting the slit of her gown fall open exposing her legs and the anklets on her ankle. “You will write down every single thing I say and answer me appropriately, you understand me?” Vanessa was mortified and embarrassed and could only manage a nod. Corinne tilted her head and raised both brows at her, then she corrected herself and replied “yes your highness”. Corinne gave a bright smile “that’s good! I mean you wouldn’t want to get laid off this job, daddy at this point will not hesitate to do whatever I want, I don’t care how long you must have been planning family events around here”. Corinne knew she was probably talking like she was a spoilt cliche princess but was too angry to stop herself from talking, she had to stop she was pouring today’s frustrations at the poor lady and she knew it was not a right thing to do. “In fact, do you know what? I think I am done for today, I’ve picked out the colors that’s enough work for today” she waved the planner away. “You can go now Vanessa” “I’m sorry your highness, have a splendid evening”. She nodded without a word again to her. When she turned to leave Corinne called her back “And Meredith is not worthy of your goodnight greeting?” She arches a brow in tune with her questioning tone. Vanessa looked more pressed at that moment but still called out to Meredith “goodnight ma’am” she said and hurried out of Corinne’s suite. “That last bit was too much Corinne” “It was not, trust me Merry” Corinne laughed “it was fun, I can’t wait for papa to summon me and ask me to work amiably with her”. “You think she will take that to the majesty?” Merry‘ atone was incredulous, Corinne turned to look at her surprised she was asking that. “Oh she definitely will, she looks like a snitch”. Meredith laughed “you are such a b***h though” “I know, I know”. Corinne stood up and walked to her vanity, picked up a brush and began brushing her hair. Just then she heard the doors open and someone entering, she didn’t bother looking to see who it was. Meredith had already announced the presence of her sister with her ‘good evening princess Camilla’. Camilla walked up to Corinne, took the brush from her sister’s hand and began brushing her hair for her. “How are you doing young one?” Young one has been the nickname Camilla had for Corinne ever since she turned thirteen and her mother said she was growing up into womanhood quickly. Camilla’s response to what their mother told her was “don’t get deceived young one, it isn’t as much fun as she is painting it to be”. Camilla was just about to be seventeen as at that time, but how right had she been then. Ever since then, Camilla called her ‘young one’ Corinne stood on her tippy toes, stretched her hands and ruffled up her sister’s hair, Camilla is five feet and eight inches (5”8 ft) tall, two inches on Corinne who was five feet and six inches (5”6 ft) tall. Camilla easily caught her hands and playfully glared at her. “I am doing just great oldie” she smiled mischievously in her sister’s face. “I’m sure you had, you had a great time making that planner look miserable too” Corinne caught Meredith’s eyes and gave her the I told you look. “She was being disrespectful” she huffed and rolled her eyes. “How about you? How was your day? No royal duties this evening before dinner?” Camilla made a face “don’t remind me of my day” she dropped the brush back on the vanity behind her sister and walked over to the couch Corinne stood up from. “That bad today?” Her sister teasingly asked and laughed. Camilla groaned and sank dramatically onto the couch, she pulled up her legs and Corinne sat beside her, she turned to Meredith in the silent ‘get this lady a drink before she dies out here’ look. “Yes, I had to take your lover boy and his father to our ranch something you should have been doing instead, exciting isn’t it?” “Sounds like I would have rather hung myself then” Meredith returned with a glass of wine for Camilla, after she handed over the glass of wine, Corinne signaled at her to go. “Go have a life besides being my shadow, I’m fine dinner will soon be served anyway”. Meredith curtsied as she was supposed to customarily and left the room. “She does that all the time?” Camilla asked “Nope” Corinne replied popping the ‘p’ “ I guess because you are here and all that”. “So, you were saying something about visits and ranches, why don’t you just marry Carlos if you are already doing my duties for me” Corinne mischievously waggled her eyebrows at her sister. “First of all, eww no and secondly......wait, why am I the only one drinking wine” “Oh, I’ve had a glass earlier when the planner was aggravating me” she shrugged “and you know, dinner with the parents” she rolled her eyes “I need to be straight up sober”. Camilla laughed long and hard then sobered up quickly and put on a straight face. “You need to go get another drink young one, get as tipsy as you want because dinner is not just with the parents as you think” Corinne looked at her sister with a questioning look, then realization dawned on her. Camilla took The Montez to their ranch and they were out all day, that means they were probably still at the palace and will be very much having dinner with them. She looked at her wristwatch, dinner will be in a little over an hour time. Damn! She needed a drink. She stood up to walk to the bar and her sister lifted up her wine glass in a mock cheer to her. They both shared the same feelings about Carlos and not so good feelings at that.
