Thirty minutes later and both Corinne and Camilla were laughing over the tiniest things.
“And he went ow! On his butt” Camilla was retelling a story of what happened at the ranch when Carlos tried riding Corinne’s favorite horse.
“I would pay a million dollars to have seen that” Corinne laughed loudly.
“You know what I think?”
She turned and looked over at her sister. “What are you thinking?”
“I’d say you dress really really good for dinner tonight, a little touch of makeup too and a really seductive but subtle gown. Knock him off feet or seat and step your heels on him” Camilla stopped and thought for a while, “damn that rhymes!” Setting both sister’s off into another round of laughter.
“Okay okay, for real you really need to start getting ready now, I’m already looking good for dinner” her sister gestured over her dress.
Corinne looked over towards her closet, then turned to her sister “you will have to help me though, right?” Camilla nodded in affirmative.
Corinne smiled brightly, “well let’s get started!”
Camilla threw open Corinne’s closet doors, went straight to the section labeled ‘dinner gowns’ and began sifting through.
“There is this dress I bought you as your birthday gift last year, and I have never seen you on it”. Corinne shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other but did not respond back to her sister.
“Aha!” Camilla immediately exclaimed, Corinne peered over her shoulders, obviously her sister have found what she was looking for. She saw her sister pulling out a creamy gold gown from its wrappers, Oh hell no she thought.
“This is perfect for tonight!” Her sister exclaimed excitedly.
“Well, I guess if you don’t think it’s too much” Corinne drawled in her usual manner.
Camilla turned and gave her the stink eye, “you are wearing this, end of discussion now come let’s go get your hair and makeup done”.
Camilla laid the dress on the bed while Corinne settled into the chair by the vanity. Camilla got to her and turned her away from the mirror, got the makeup products ready and started out by packing Corinne’s hair into a hair bonnet and then cleaning her face with some face wipes.
She first took the concealer to conceal some tiny spots she noticed on Corinne’s face, from probably dried up acnes. Before opening the bottle of foundation, she was applying the foundation when she spoke out.
“You know, I never thought you’d get married before me” they both laughed lightly.
“But then, daddy decided to shock me for the second time by deciding to marry you off to that good for nothing snobby prince” she tsked “I so don’t like him for you, young one”.
“What was the first shocker daddy gave you?” Corinne curiously asked.
“Oh, on my eighteenth birthday night, him and mom called me into their room and decided to break it to me in the most ‘cautious’....” she made air quotes “way that I was to be the next to the throne, I’m supposed to be the next ruler here” she waved her hand around then continued applying makeup to her sister’s face.
“You could imagine my shock that night” she laughed.
“Tell me about it, I was that shocked when father told me that today”
“He told you?”
Corinne shrugged lightly, “Yes, after I told him that he should marry you off to Carlos instead, since you are the older daughter”.
Camilla laughed out “You didn’t!!”
“Oh yes I did, I mean why would I get married before you?!”
“Then he told me you are the heiress, boy I was shocked”.
Camilla laughed, “so you see, after that night I started taking up royal duties and learning things that about the kingdom and other kingdoms” she finished up with the last touches of makeup in Corinne and packed away the makeup products.
Then she adjusted Corinne’s seat close to a power socket and plugged in a hair straightener to begin the hair work.
“I just thought you were really in love with the princess lifestyle and all those things” Corinne mumbled quietly as she obediently kept her head for her sister to work on.
Camilla brought out a brush to brush out her sister’s hair first, then replied her “no sister....” she paused, “well at least it’s a no at first, but then I gradually started liking it, like I love reading about our history, planning and hosting, you know and all those royal things you hate”. Corinne turned to look up and give her the stink eye.
“Careful princess, you will burn yourself” Corinne flipped her off and Camilla snickered.
Camilla quickly but cautiously finished up with straightening the hair, then she plucked in the curler and started working Corinne’s red strands into big loose curls that will bounce and cascade down her back.
She started humming a song to herself, then stopped as she noticed Corinne’s uneasiness. “Did I burn you?” She asked
“No you didn’t”
“Then why are you looking like that, you have something to say?”
Corinne took a deep breath and contemplated, weighing the pros and cons of telling her sister the idea she had been nurturing for a while now.
“I really don’t want to get married to that boy” she finally responded.
Her sister finished up with the curling, unplugged the curler from the socket and placed it on the vanity.
“Pfft, I thought that was already an established thing you have going on, there’s just nothing we can do about it”.
She worked hair oils, used a little comb to gently style the hair then she used hair spray on it.
“Okay okay, step into your dress young lady”.
Corinne flipped her off again but quietly stood up and walked over to the bed where the dress was laid out. She was still thinking about really letting her sister know that she’s planning on running away.
Corinne let her hand run over the dress’s fabric before picking it up and holding it.
Camilla laughed and turned to face the vanity mirror, “could you stop treating the dress as a matrimonial attire and just step into it already”. She teased her sister while trying to fix up her hair and makeup too.
“We’re going to be late for dinner if you don’t hurry up” she turned and added.
Corinne rolled her eyes, zipped down the dress and stepped into it, then she beckoned to her sister to come help her zip the dress back up.
After Camilla was done zipping her up, she walked over to the vanity, opened a drawer and brought out a box of jewelry, she put on her earrings and swept her hair over to her right shoulder. Then she turned to Camilla
“How do I look?” She spread her arms out.
Camilla looked her over, nodded and pointed her chin towards the mirror, “why don’t you look for yourself?”
Corinne glared, exasperated by her sister “a**hole” she muttered but still went ahead to look at the mirror for herself.
Corinne was captivated by the way her sister had improved her looks, with very light makeup. The golden shimmer she dusted above her eyelids with the bold eyeliner made her eyes pop out more, her hair was a glorious work also. She felt really impressed by her sister’s handwork.
“You know, for a heiress like you, you’re not that bad of a beautician”.
Camilla fake gasped “is that a compliment coming from you?!”
She stepped around her sister and squashed her into a hug, “oh I never thought I’d live to see this day” she continued in her sarcasm.
Corinne pushes her off and fixed her hair with her fingers “so much for being the sarcastic sister” she huffed.
Camilla laughed and started to say something but was interrupted by a knock from the door.
“The door is open” Corinne called out.
A maid opened and quietly entered, she curtsied “good evening your highness” Corinne nodded and gestured for her to continue speaking.
“His majesty asked me to come over here to see if Princess Camilla is here with you”
“Well you can see her here alright” Corinne waves to her sister’s direction.
“Yes, your highness” she bowed and turned to leave the room then stopped as though she remembered something.
“The Queen also asked that I tell you both that dinner is about to be served”
“Tell her we will be coming down for dinner”
“Okay princess Corinne” she bowed again and left the room.
“We will be down fashionably late” Camilla quipped after the retreating maid and both sisters laughed out very loud.

Corinne and Camilla walked into the private dining room, the one used for family dinners only, hand in hand. They stopped and scanned around the room, their parents and his majesty Montez with his son were already seated at the table. Their father was seated at one end of the table with their mom at his right hand side. The Montez sat beside the Queen, skipping a seat after her. They were all discussing and laughing, obviously waiting for them for dinner to start but took no notice when they entered the room.
Camilla left Corinne’s hand and went to sit by her father’s left hand side, the movement made everyone to look her way then as if on cue all eyes turned to Corinne who awkwardly smiled and waved a little, before walking and pulling a seat before her sister. Unfortunately her position made her to be sitting across from Carlos, facing him directly. She swallowed and turned to her father, “good evening your majesty, papa” she added as an afterthought then she faced her mother, “good evening mama” she smiled to her mother.
“How are you feeling now darling?”
“I am good mama, thank you”. Then she turned to face the Montez.
“Good evening your majesty, king Montez, it is such an honor to have you in this home, I’m sorry I couldn’t come down for breakfast this morning, I hope you’re enjoying your stay here in this kingdom?” She finished in one breath and her sickeningly sweet sarcastic smile.
King Montez though was oblivious of the sarcasm and went ahead to gush about how beautiful she is and how wonderful he and his son’s stay in her kingdom has been great.
“Carlos made a great choice in picking you to be his queen someday, you are so cultured and beautiful, you will make a submissive woman for him” he went ahead to add.
Corinne arched an eyebrow and looked at both of her parents. Then she looked at Carlos still with the sweet smile plastered on her face, only with a slight glare added she called his name in acknowledgement.
Then her father spoke up “since we are all here, Camilla please say the grace for us to start on eating dinner.
They all joined their hands together and bowed their heads while Camilla said grace.
