"Ayva your phone's ringing. And don't ask who it is 'cause it doesn't say that here." Ashley said as she strolled into the kitchen. She stretched her hand forward, with my phone in her hand. I quickly rinsed the soap off my hands in the sink and then proceeded to wipe them off with a napkin before taking the phone from her.
"Thank you." I said and looked down at my phone screen. There was no caller ID and I had no idea whose number that was. I tap on the answer on the screen and placed the phone against my ear.
"Hello, am I speaking with Miss Ayva Williams?." A deep voice said.
"Yes, this is she." I said a bit doubtful of whether I was supposed to admit to that or not.
"Who is that?." Ashley whispered to me and I shrugged my shoulders, telling her I had no idea.
"I am Carl Ambrose, Mr. Vasilakis' attorney. I would like if we could meet up today and discuss the situation concerning the broken art sculpture."
In the beginning, I had been a bit confused as I didn't know who the ‘Mr. Vasilakis’ was or why his lawyer was contacting me but when he said the word sculpture, my brain immediately clicked.
So Arsen's last name is Vasilakis.
Arsen Vasilakis.
The name sounded familiar. I was sure I have heard of that last name before but I just couldn't single out where or when. I had no idea he was Greek. I mean he does have some striking features you could only find on the people from Greece, but the prospect of him being from there never once crossed my mind.
“Uhm okay. Where and when would we be meeting?.” I asked.
“I say we meet by ten am and for the location, you could pick a place you are comfortable with.”
“Uhm okay, I will text you the address.” I told him and then he hung up.
I heaved a sigh and dropped my phone on the island so I could continue with the dishes.
“Who was that?.” Ashley asked.
“Arsen’s attorney.”
“Who is Arsen?.” she asked and I gave her a look that said ‘really’ “Oh you mean Adonis?.” she asked when it finally clicked in her head.
“Yeah, his name is Arsen.”
“But everyone calls him Adonis.”
“Which is stupid because I mean the guy's look isn't even all that great.”
She gave me a pointed look.
“What?.” I almost yelled.
“I get that you hate him and all but saying his look isn't great, that my friend is the biggest lie in the galaxy. So what did his attorney say.”
“He wants to meet up with me.”
“What for? I thought it was all over.”
“Really Ash? Just because I'm out of jail doesn't mean he forgot about it. Arsenal doesn't seem like the type to forget about stuffs like this or even forgive.”
“This is eccentric. I checked the sculpture and there wasn't much damage to it. It had just a tiny dent that was barely noticeable. I wonder why he's going overboard with all this.”
“You need to remember that we don't know these people. Rich people have a weird way of catching fun. They find pleasure in stomping on people like us.”
“But his friend paid your bail and he's not even ready to collect the money back.”
“Yusuf is different, he’s a lot nicer than the rest of them.” I said trying to fight the urge to smile. Just remembering him and how nice he was to me makes me wanna smile. I looked up at Ash to know if she hadn't caught on to anything.
Too late.
She had this sly smile on her face that told me she caught on to my body response to Yusuf’s name.
“Hmm hmm am I missing something here?.” she asked with a mischievous look on her face.
“I don't know what you are talking about.” I feigned oblivion and turned around to the sink. I picked up a dish and continued with the cleaning.
“Yeah right and I can fly. Turning your back on me wouldn't change anything and it also wouldn't make me drop the topic because I know what I saw, and what I saw is kinda intriguing.”
“What did you see?.” I asked without turning around.
“That red little blushing creeping up your neck.” I could hear the smirk in her voice.
“That's probably because it's a little hot in here.”
“Hmm is it? Or is it a certain person's name that made the heat come to you?” She teased.
“I don't know what you are talking about.”
“Cut the crap Ayva and turn around. I bet you are as red as a tomato right now. That's surprising you know, that you like Yusuf.”
I almost choked on my saliva. I dropped the dish in my hand and turned to face her.
“That is ridiculous where did you get that from?” I asked with wide eyes.
“From your face and expression.”
“It's too early for your presumptions Ash. I have to meet up with Carl by ten. The faster I finish with the dishes, the earlier I arrive at our meet-up place.”
“Where see you meeting up with him?.” she asked as she bit into an apple.
“You didn't even peel the skin off.” I eyed the apple in her hand. She shrugged her shoulders.
“You know I never do. I’ve always preferred my apple with the skin. So where are you meeting with him?.” She reiterated.
“I chose the coffee shop around the corner. I don’t wanna have to drive distances just to meet up with him. I don’t even know what he’s gonna talk about I could only hope I don’t go back to jail.”
“Do you want me to come with you?.” She asked and I shook my head.
“I can handle it.”
“What if they try something funny again and no one is around to defend you.”
“I don’t think that will be the case this time Ash. I’ll be fine alone. What’s the time?.” I asked.
“Past nine.”
“Oh s**t! I have to hurry up with this or I will be late.” I said before resuming back to cleaning the dishes.
