Chapter 7

Athena Harris POV

I groan as my head aches very badly. I blink my eyes open and look around. That is when I remember the torture, they made me go through. I slowly sit up and check my thigh. Now the blood is dried and it has a gash. It is bit longer and deeper with dried blood. Around the gash, the skin is forming a color of blue.

I slowly get up and walk to my room, the room which I have experienced my darkest days. I slowly with unsteady legs walk, as I was walking towards the room, I feel the slight breeze. I frown as my head turned into the said direction. My steps take me towards the breeze and my eyes widened in shocked.

What I find is the door open. My breath hitched. I try to listen to any kind of voice of my captors and wait for few minutes. I did not want to face their wrath if at all they are present and discover me wandering. They would not like it and I have to bear the consequences of my actions. My leg was hurting. I had no time to look after it. After five or so minutes, I was sure that no one was around.

I was astonished that they left the door open and that to unlocked. I was confused and scared all at the same time. I was confused because they are not careless like that. In all those past five years they never let that happen. I was surprised to say could be an understatement.

Next thing is, I was scared, scared as to whether they were hiding out there and would pounce on me if I tried to escape. And if that is the case, then comes the punishment. I am not looking forward to it. As I stand there and go through all the ifs. I realize that this is once in a life time chance.

So, without wasting any time, I walked on slow steps near the door and open it fully. Might be they left in hurry and forgot to lock the door. Or they might have thought that I would not check as it has been almost five years.

Today the moon is shining on me. It is dark as the sun has settled. But that not deter me from escaping this hell hole.

I close the door behind me and walk out in the open and take a deep breath. I was craving for this from so long. Now, is not the time to think and crave for anything. It is my chance to escape and that’s what I am going to do.

I walk the front steps and crossed the woods. I don’t know for how long I was walking. It felt like miles. I had no particular direction as I was not very familiar with these woods. I just went with where my mind leads me. It is at least better than hell hole.

There were different kind of weird noises in the woods. I was scared and my breathing was coming in short pants. I don’t recall anything about the past life. And here I am in an unfamiliar place where something even worse could happen to me. As I was walking further, a thought came to me

“life is full of risk and fear is the main aspect of any risk. It is better to not indulge more into the fear and plunge into the risk. Whatever happens, you at least know that you gave your best short”

So, with that, my steps were more determined and there was hope in me. I don’t know how long I walked, for my body was aching and my leg which has the gash was not allowing me to walk any further. I sit on one of the trees trunks and decided to rest for a while. I believe that I have covered at least some distance between me and my captors.

My eyes were just drooping when I hear a snap of a twig. That alerted me. Immediately my back stiffened and I straightened my posture. I feel a presence behind me. I was about to turn when I hear a meow. I relaxed when I heard that it is a cat.

I turn around and smile when I find a cat sitting on of the trees trunk and looking at me. In the night, its eyes were shining.

“hello” I whisper.

It meows in its sweet voice. For a second, I was scared that someone was here. I slowly walk near the cat trying not to scare it off. But as I was about to catch it, it ran away and disappeared in the woods. I have already wasted time, so I decided to walk further.

I walked for another half an hour.

“Don’t stop” a voice whispered past me.

My breathing stuck. I turn and look in every direction but find no one.

“they will come for you” it said again. My breathing came faster and my hands were trembling due to the fear. I wanted to shout and ask who it is talking but I was scared to alert anyone of my presence. My hands were clenched tightly.

“move faster” again the voice whispered. I tried to ignore it but it was not letting me. It was as if the woods were speaking to me because I can feel no one. Are they informing me that, my captors Cole and Kane will catch me once again?

I was terrified at the thought and that lead me to walk faster. Not long I entered the boundary of some sought. My eyes widened when I was standing at edge of the woods. I was pretty hidden but could clearly see some guys walking around. Scared, I took a step back. I stepped on the tree's crunch and at that their head snapped in the wood’s direction.

Immediately I turn around and take the woods as my shield and run a different way. I don’t know whether they saw me. But after around ten minutes or so, I felt them coming closer to me. I could hear their voices as they conversed.

My breathing was getting heavier by seconds. I try to run as much faster as I can. My leg is giving me hell. I was feeling dizzy due to the lack of nutrients they were giving me. My body needed food. I was feeling as if I would faint any moment now. But I also know that I cannot stop. I walked and then all of sudden someone steps in front of me. My eyes widened when I recognized the person. He had an evil glint in his eyes.

My mouth opened to scream but no words came out as he presses a cloth to my and my eyes roll back on their own accord. I fall limp in his arms and then there was blackness.

Alpha Aedion POV

“She is going to be your second chance mate” said the fairy Otsana.

I froze at those words. A second chance mate?

Now?

Why?

Of all the people, another mate?

Why now?

Is this some kind of trick games moon goddess is playing with me?

“I see that you are confused” states Otsana

“I am” I reply with a frown. I was not happy with the news. I don’t want to go through the same pain once again. I am not up for it.

“there is nothing to explain Alpha Aedion. It is what it is and you don’t have a choice other than accepting her. Make sure you make right decision” she says to me.

My brows furrowed “I don’t know what was moon goddess thinking while she decided to give me a second chance mate which I am not in need of"

“She is not a thing to be needed” the fairy retorts to me.

“Then what am I suppose to say to this unwelcomed news?” I growl.

“know your place boy” her voice held power, that of a fairy.

“I am sorry. I am just antsy and frustrated” I reply to her as I pace in my room.

“all I recommend is to go with the flow. I don’t have any explanation or advice to give you for now” she informs me.

“Okay” I groan rubbing my forehead.

“I will take your leave then” she says and without waiting for my reply, she closes the mind link and blocks it.

Sleep is nowhere near so I go to the gym room which is downstairs and start with the punching bag. I need to keep my mind occupied otherwise it is going to burst any moment now.

Not long, I feel a presence but don’t pay attention to the person.

“what are you doing here?” I hear the familiar voice of Adolf’s.

I stop and turn around to face him. He is well built and warrior of the pack with his six ft height. I was at six point two. We both were well built with muscles and our personalities are what defines us. But most of all he is like my uncle. He always knows when I am in distress, I don’t know how. That is still mystery. But I appreciate whenever he is been there for me.

“I am not sleepy” was my reply.

He does not reply for a second and comes and stands in front of me catching the bag as I hit continuously.

“I don’t want to speak about it” I murmured.

Once I am done, I go and sit on one of the sofas. Adolf settles down beside me. He takes my hand and cleans the wounds. They anyways heal with my wolf powers. He ties the hand wrap around my hand and then says “shall we do some boxing training to get your mind off things?” he inquires.

I let out a tired sigh and shake my head in negative.

“if you are not ready to beat me in boxing, then surely the news is bad in your way” he states with understanding.

I let out a humorless chuckle “you could say that” was my muttering response.

“Now, are you going to tell what is the matter with you or I need to do some more digging?” he asks with raised eyebrows.

“It is not something I want to talk about” I snap at his persistent.

“definitely affecting your mind, kind of news” he mused.

“I did not ask for your all-knowing omniscient mind” I retort.

He shrugs his shoulder “For your kind information, I was not trying to give one. I can’t help it if my mind tries to understand what is bothering you” he stated.

“Now, tell me what is the matter?” he raised his eyebrows inquisitively.

I look into distance and thought about how and what I should inform him. But later on I decided to inform him about what happened once I went to my room and spoke to the fairy of our pack. I wanted to relieve my mind with some of the news.

To say he is shocked could be an understatement. He looked gob smacked.

As I was about to reply, we hear the familiar voice and my eyes snap in the direction of the doorway of the gym. My brows furrowed angrily as I took into the person. My fist tightened and anger is simmering into my veins as I take into the person.

“how dare you?” I snapped with a growl.
