Chapter 2- Cupid's Arrow

462 Words
Jared Almost Two Years Ago I am back in the city for my brother’s wedding. Sam is supposed to meet me at the hospital. I picked up some chocolates and balloons on my way from the airport for the kids in the children’s ward. I was friends with the kids before I decided to leave the city. God, the woman has made me leave so much in life. I get in the ward with my hands full of all the stuff for the kids, to my surprise, the entire room is already decorated with balloons and ribbons. I stand by the door, when I see a girl, up on a mobile ladder, putting balloons in one corner of the room. I go inside and stand behind her, but she is too engrossed in her job to notice me. “Hey! Need some help?” I ask. She is startled and falls off the ladder but I catch her just in time before she hits the ground and send all the stuff from my hand flying across the room. She is a pleasure to look at. Petite, fair thing, 5'3'' I guess, beautiful brown twinkling eyes and a wonderful smile. She looks lovely. She smiles with relief when she realizes that she didn’t fall, but the look changes into one of indignation when she sees me ogling at her, the way I was. “PUT ME DOWN!” She says in a not too loud, but an angry voice. I shrug and leave her. Well, obviously from a little height. Nonetheless, I do. She falls on the ground. The look on her face is priceless! She is embarrassed and flustered and shocked all at the same time! “Better now?” I try to suppress my smile. I can’t help but not smile when we are looking at each other the way we are. And then, we both start laughing hard. She extends her hand towards me and I pull her up. It is a refreshing change for me to see a girl not being offended when I practically throw her on the floor. “You’re??” I ask. Sam dashes into the room; just when she opens her mouth to answer. Oh, you can always trust the timing of my life. “So, you guys have met each other?” “Well, we were certainly about to.” I say sarcastically. Sam eyes me suspiciously. Let’s just say I had been out of action for far too long after a certain incident in my life and despite my mom and brother’s numerous attempts I chose to remain the way I was then. Un-dateable! And then Sam introduces us.
