Chapter 2

Ezio: “What do you mean that your daughter is missing, Alessio?” I asked, shaking my head at the omega. My heart clenched, and I couldn’t help but find myself feeling more pain than I ever have. The rejection being a reminder of the pain that I had to endure to keep her safe as my own mother’s words played in my head that night. A promise that she made about her years ago when she arranged my marriage. Flashback “What if she is my mate?” I asked, not bothering to look up at her from the drawing that I was working on. “Is she?” She asked, her eyes hardening as she glared at the girl outside the window. I didn’t answer. “Ezio, is she your f*****g mate?” “I asked IF, I never said that she was.” I responded coldly, making sure to hide the pain that I felt in my voice as my wolf wanted me to say that she was. But even he knew not to challenge the pack Luna. She would end up killing our mate, and that wasn’t something that we wanted to risk. “Then you are going to reject her.” She said, not missing a second. “Or so help me God, I am going to killing her myself…” End of Flashback. “She wasn’t home when I came back, Alpha. She hasn’t come back since last night, and I know that it is not like her to do so. She would have at least taken her phone, she didn’t.” He said, and I shook my head as I pinched the bridge of my nose. “She could get in danger, Ezio.” “You knew to keep your eye on her, Alessio.” I said, fighting back my own pain. The rejection played in my head, and I couldn’t help but find myself regretting it by the second. But it was all I could do, for her safety, I had to push her away from me. It was the way that things were meant to be, regardless of my choice. “The men will find her,” I said, taking a step back toward my wife, Claire, who raised an eyebrow at me. “Why are you concerned about an omega being missing?” She asked, and I smiled, wrapping my arms around her. She wrapped her arms around my neck, and I kissed her cheek. Her eyes met mine, and I could read her jealousy in her eyes. And as much as I wanted to pull away, I fought back from doing so. “First of all, her father is standing right there, and that was rude. Second, she is a pack member, and one going missing can cause a problem. I don’t want to find myself dealing with a problem that I don’t need.” I said, and she nodded. No one knew that Aurora was rejected by me, and for two months, the woman was quiet. She lived normally within the pack, but I could tell that she didn’t approach me. She wouldn’t even sit on the same table if I decided to take a seat. “I was just curious. You know, an omega shouldn’t be bothering you very much, and I doubt that anyone would be bothering to look for her to begin with.” She said, and I smiled, making sure not to show her my annoyance. I kissed her before taking a step back, wanting to leave. “I have to go and tend to work. Don’t wait for me tonight, I won’t be coming home as…” “It’s been two months, Ezio.” She said, stopping me. “You can, at least, try to spend ONE night with me at home. You have been working yourself off day and night, and I understand that, but don’t you miss being with me?” “You know, more than anyone, that I miss you and miss being around you, baby.” I said, knowing to choose my words carefully. “And you know for fact that I don’t like having such conversations in the garden, Claire.” “We don’t spend time at home for us to talk about anything…” “I have work,” I said, stopping her. My calm demeanor now replaced with one that I knew she understood. I was annoyed, and her taking a step back, nodding in response, told me that she understood not to press on me more than she did. “I will see you in the morning, and I expect…” “Don’t worry, everything will be as you like in the morning.” She said, stopping me. “Just as they always are anyway…” I watched as she walked toward the house, not saying a word as I looked at Marcel, my beta, who approached me. “Aurora is missing.” I said, and he nodded. “I heard, and I already sent the men to look for her. She wouldn’t have gone far, especially since she left not long ago.” He said, and I nodded, taking a deep breath. I looked away from him and he shook his head in question. “Do you want us to check the airport?” “I want to know where she went and who she could have spoken to. She is an omega, she wouldn’t be going anywhere far in her situation. She knows that she would be dead otherwise,” I said, and he nodded. “We’ll find her, boss.” He said, and I nodded, taking a step back as I ignored the anger that I felt. “Good,” I said, looking at the house where Claire was sitting at the front porch, scrolling through her phone. “Now, come on, we have other things to take care of. The last thing that I am going to want to be concerned about is an omega who we will find in a few days…” ******************************** “What do you f*****g mean that you still can’t find her?” I asked, snapping at my deltas who just walked into my office. “We are looking everywhere, boss, we can’t find her. The woman seems to have disappeared completely, no matter where we try to look at her, we can’t seem to find a trace of her.” One of the deltas, Kristoff said, shaking his head. “She isn’t even going to the university, boss.” “You are going to find her, dead or f*****g alive, I want to know where she went.” I said, snapping at the man. My eyes met Claire’s as she stood by the door, crossing her arms over her chest. “Call Alessio, I want to know whether or not his daughter has someone that she could go to. As long as it is not another pack, then it can be a human’s house, and I want to know who the f**k it is.” Kristoff nodded, taking a step back, leaving me with Claire. She looked me in the eye, and she raised an eyebrow. “You are still not caring about her, are you?” She asked, and I let out a warning growl. “I told you to not open the subject with me.” I said, and she looked down at her feet. Her heart raced against her chest, and I could tell that she was trying to control the anger that she was feeling. “I can’t help it. The woman’s name is all I’ve been hearing for the past two months, and now, you seem to be obsessed…” “Get out of my sight, Claire…” “I am your damn woman, Ezio. The woman is nothing but an omega and you have been looking for her as if she was a mate to you.” She said, making my stomach churn. “Anyhow, I came to tell you that dinner is ready. You can come and make your presence if you could remember that you have a woman in your house, you know, one who is not a maid within the walls of this pack house to tend to your things and your pleasure…”
