A Maybach stopped at the yard. Vincent Gage went to open the door like a servant.
“Mr. Stone, welcome.” Vincent Gage rubbed his hands stressfully. He wore an ingratiating smile.
Tracy and Lily were standing next to him, both under stress. If Beth hadn’t been chosen by Michael’s grandfather, they wouldn’t have to do what they did.
Michael stepped out of the car. His eyes hardened as he noticed Lily Curtis.
Lily wore an Afro wig and lots of make-up. She dressed in a dramatical way and tried to make herself look like Beth.
But that was useless. Michael could recognize Beth instantly yesterday and he could also identify that this was not Beth with a single glance.
Michael felt it was a joke. So, this was the Gages’ plan? Letting her pretend to be Beth?
He knew Beth come here last night and didn’t leave since then. Where was she now?
Somehow, he had a horrible feeling.
Noticing Michael looked at her, Lily felt her heart was thudding. She peeked at him with face turning red and eyes showing love.
“Mr. Stone,” Vincent led Lily to Michael and acted like a kind father, “this is my daughter Beth. I get her back home as you asked. Now, we are good and happy together.”
“Yes,” Tracy looked at her husband and Lily, and uttered with a kind smile, “Finally, we can enjoy family time. That is all I want.”
Hearing what they said, Lily was jealous.
She knew why Michael engaged with Beth. But knowing that Michael asked Vincent to get Beth home and to make things right made her painful.
Beth Gage was kicked out of this family two years ago. She got nothing from this family since then.
But only a few people knew this happened. Neither the Gages wanted others to know. After all, it sounded like they did wrong. But Michael did investigation. He did want to marry Beth.
That wouldn’t happen. Lily thought after she married to Michael, Beth could never compete with her. She would be the winner all the time.
Thinking of that, Lily looked at Michael adoringly. “Thank you for everything, Mr. Stone. It was my fault before. I let my parents down…”
“You are not that pretty to be Beth,” Michael uttered, breaking into her performance.
Those three were frozen, especially Lily. She felt so embarrassed as if someone slapped her face.
They didn’t know what went wrong. They had sent Michael all kinds of ugly photos of Beth and told him Beth would meet him in such a look. At that time, Michael praised Beth was enchanting after he say those ugly photos. And they were shocked by Michael’s special taste.
That was why they made Lily dress like this. But now, Michael thought Lily wasn’t pretty enough?
“Mr. Stone, well…” Vincent explained, “Li… Beth is much prettier when she doesn’t dress like this.”
“Yes! She can take her make-up off now.” Tracy pushed Lily, “Quickly!”
“There is no need to do that,” Michael stopped them.
That horrible feeling was stronger. He had no patience to be with them. He raised his hands and hinted his bodyguards.
And then those men directly walked into the house and started to look around.
Vincent didn’t dare to stop them after seeing Michael’s serious look. He felt Michael might know something. “Mr. Stone, what are you looking for? Maybe we can help you…”
Michael ignored him. Suddenly, he thought of something and headed toward the backyard.
Vincent, Tracy and Lily looked at each other surprisingly. That was where the warehouse located. Why would Michael go there?
They rushed after Michael. When they came to the backyard, a man ran to them and shouted, “Help! The warehouse is on fire!”
Half of the warehouse was built underground. Seeing the flames, Michael shouted, “Key!”
“Go get the key!” Vincent turned to Tracy and yelled.
There was no time to wait. Michael kicked at the door several times, and finally, the door fell.
“Mr. Stone, dangerous!”
Ignoring Vincent’s words, Michael poured himself a bucket of water and then rushed into the warehouse!
Beth was crouched in the corner. She could barely breathe with the heavy smoke.
Looking at the smoke getting thicker, Beth felt desperate. Was this the end of her life? Maybe this was what her families waited and they would be happy.
She was such a failure. No one ever cared about her.
“Beth! If they don’t love you, I do. If they don’t care about you, I do! Be strong and wait for me…”
Who was that? Why would she suddenly recall these words?
Lacking of oxygen, Bell felt exhausted and drowsy.
Suddenly, a man rushed to her and held her into his arms.
It was a warm and safe hug.
Beth struggled to open her eyes and only saw his perfect jaw and pursed lips.
With all her strength left, she asked, “Who are you?”
Before getting an answer, Beth leaned before his chest and fainted…
The first thing Beth saw when she woke up was the white ceiling. And then she found that she was in the hospital.
Who sent her here? Beth was confused.
Looking around, she saw Michael sitting on the chair elegantly. Well, the ordinary chair seemed to become the throne of the king as he sat there.
Beth shut her eyes and tried to recall what had happened.
It must be a dream. How could that be? The man saved her was Michael Stone?
She acted so weirdly last night. How could Michael still come to see her today? That was so strange. Beth felt headache.
Michael noticed that Beth was awake. He also noticed that she shut her eyes immediately when she saw him. That made him feel upset.
It took a while before Beth opened her eyes.
Michael was still sitting there, like a king.
“Feeling better?” Michael uttered, “Let’s talk about our marriage.”
“What?” Beth’s eyes were wide open. She sat up instantly.
“Mr. Stone, you must have mistaken something. She is the daughter of my sister. Her name is Lily Curtis. She is not my daughter. This is my Beth…” Tracy pulled Lily forward in case that Michael couldn’t see her clearly.
Beth now realized that Michael wasn’t the only guest in her room. Her parents, aunt and Lily were also here.
Seeing Lily’s dress which was similar to hers, Beth felt headache. This was how they planned to replace her?
Beth had thought that once Michael wanted to do some investigation, he would know what she looked like. Lily was not her twin. They didn’t look like each other. And Michael wasn’t a child. How could him be unable to tell who was the real Beth?
Now, Beth knew what was going on. Her families made Lily to see Michael in her name and once Lily had something with Michael, there was no need to fear Michael would find out the truth someday. As long as Michael was not a cruel man, they could still get benefits.
At this moment, Lily, who dressed not like herself at all, was gazing at Michael fondly. Her eyes were glittering. Lots of men would be attracted by her.
“Yes! Mr. Stone, she is not my daughter.” And then Vincent yelled at Beth with a cold look, “Lily! I know you envy Beth. But you shouldn’t wear her clothes and set a fire in the warehouse! Do you know how much damage you would cause if Mr. Stone hadn’t found you and stopped the fire? You must apologize to Mr. Stone for your stupid behaviors!”
