Candace's POV:
Me and Gavan were special, the first twins in the family. We had a sort of connection where we could do everything together, fight, speak, move, anything. I could start a sentence and he could finish it. I could look at a guy and he would tell me his full name and background information.
I was the same for him, I found myself picking up his pen before he even dropped it, I could steer off a girl before she even started flirting with him.
We were connected, and mother said that our futures would be interesting.
Something about how our mates would also be twins?
Sounded interesting to me.
Bianca just found her mate, and now she needed to wait. We promised her we would fend off any guys who were attracted to her heat with pleasure, us always finding it interesting how we fought together. Gavan would grab the attacker the same time I would bring my knee up, and vice versa.
"Don't worry, Bia."
"We can handle anything." I finish. Bianca smiles and ruffles Gavan's hair. I reach up to smooth it down as soon as he makes a face and we walk away, off to find where the new guy disappeared to. Somewhere in the house, mother calls for us.
"O Sanctissima!" She calls out. Gavan and I sigh at the same time and open our mouths to sing her request, an average day thing. Mother called out a song, we all sang it at once, like a separated choir. The voices echo through the house as all our siblings take their place in the song, lyrics spot on and pitch perfect.
"Consonante perpetim, Salve, salve Regina!" We finish and smile at each other. Gavan and I high five each other at the same time, pulling on our masks and walking outside, into the cool winter air. We usually like to go for a night run before going to bed, so we stay in our human forms and race each other, silently laughing as the trees dash by us quickly from our incredible speed. We stop at a good distance until we see Gwyn, sleep walking again. She keeps having dreams that take her out at night, mumbling about finding something. We both place our hands on her shoulders and she jerks awake, looking down sheepishly and turning back for home. Gavan and I smile at each other again and shake our heads in amusement, walking instead of running. We almost walk a fourth of the territory before we hear a twig snapping, and get defensive. Gavan and I stalk closer and closer to the small noises and whispers further down, until we see two figures stalking towards the town. Since we were wearing white we were camouflaged, but these people were wearing slightly ripped coats and jeans, a sign they weren't planning on being outside for long. Gavan and I simultaneously go to their opposite sides, then step into their view points.
"What are you doing here?" Gavan asks.
"You don't seem like a guest." I say.
"And we aren't expecting anyone." We say together. The two figures get into defensive poses with each other, back to back. Gavan and I close our eyes, keeping our identity secret for now, at least until they go back and possibly die if their intentions were bad. I hear the one who was most likely a man pull out something, and hear it whizzing by me. I duck and whatever it was, lodges in a tree. Gavan takes the girl down and trips the guy, so I dive in and press him down harshly. He tries to get up, but I twist his arm backwards and flip him, smashing his face into the snow.
"What are you?" The girl cries out, and I open my eyes to see her kneeling, restrained by Gavan. She makes eye contact with me and I smile under my mask, letting her see what she must be afraid of. I hear her gasp and Gavan opens his eyes, making eye contact with the guy. I pull him up and twist him back around, shoving him into a tree and pressing a knee to his chest, but we make eye contact and I stop in my tracks.
None of our skin was touching, so eye contact was the only way to know…
Oh god.
The man narrows his eyes with determination and I hear Gavan do the same as me, but he growled at the girl.
"Just our luck."
"Seems like three have found their mates."
"Tell us your names."
"We know you are twins."
"Since we are too." We say, a fast paced back and forth conversation between the two of us. The guy tries to pull me closer, all thoughts about why he was there gone and his wolf trying to take control. I hear Gavan leaning in closely to the girl and staring intently into her eyes.
Who knew we would find our mates today as well. I say to Gavan through the mind link.
Such coincidence. He replies.
I wonder if they can wait for two years.
Looks like you will also need to be protected during heat.
And you will have to be held back when she goes into heat.
But I can take her, seeing as I will stay here even after I'm mated. Not a good thing for you, though.
Be gentle, brother. I say and he smiles. I quickly grab my guy by the back of his shirt and throw him on my back, Gavan doing the same and hiking back to the house. They struggle after coming out of their mate hazes and attempt to free themselves, but we hold them tighter and move faster until we burst through the pack house doors and into the dark living room.
Mother. I call out, and soon a door opens and footsteps are heard in the stairs. Mother and Father appear and rush over, taking in the people wiggling in our grasp. We let them fall and hold their shirts to keep them from moving. Mother inspects them long and hard before speaking.
"You came to kill us? The objective is written on your faces when I get closer. And the way I see your attachment and face similarities tells me you are mates to my first twins. Bravo, but we may need to fix a few things." She simply says and grabs them by their arms, taking them to the cells to be interrogated. Me and Gavan glance at each other, fine that our assassin mates will be in safe hands, because mother always stays up through the night when we have a prisoner.
What would we do without mother?
