“Well, it was nice knowing you,” I joke as Ruby hangs up the phone. She giggles innocently. “I’m glad you find my death at the hands of your father funny.”
“I can handle my dad, don’t you worry about him,” she leans forwards and pecks my lips.
“Well, my life is in your hands then,” I smile and she turns so her back is against my chest. She nestles down between my legs and I wrap my arms around her as we allow the crackling embers from the fire to warm our still naked bodies.
“Your parents are coming here tomorrow,” she says quietly. I can tell by the tone of her voice that she was a little nervous about seeing them again.
“They love you, Ruby. They can’t wait to see you and they will be over the moon that Maddy is awake,” I try to calm her worries.
