I'm filled with pride as Raya and I walk hand-in-hand back to the ladies' solar where I spoke to Yvette earlier today. The words the king said about how Raya is special and unique repeat in my head and I know they are true, but not only for the reasons he said. Yes, the fact that she is Valerian and from the future make her special and unique, but they are not even the most interesting things about her. The way she has faced every challenge since arriving here head-on, the way she has accepted me despite my initial reluctance to claim her and the things Yvette said to her, and the way she treats Bertie and the king, seeing them as real people rather than the sum of their positions, all those things point to someone who is truly exceptional, and I feel luckier with each p
