*ZORRO SPARK*
"See? You can't tell. I am telling you, there is a big castle inside the forest. Last time I told you I heard noises and saw fire --”
My entire face frowned as I saw him sniggered. I pushed him, “Hey, what's funny? Never mind! I'm not talking anymore."
I laid down again with my back facing Luke. I was annoyed at him. His reaction was like telling me that I had some mental problem.
Was I really that not convincing? We have been best friends since young, how could he not understand me? I never lied to him before.
He patted my back and forced his voice to sound serious, "Come on Dude, I will listen now. Get up and tell me the story."
"No. You just don't believe it either."
"Okay, I believe in you."
"Who are you kidding? I've lost my mood. Stop talking. I'm going back to sleep."
"Wait!" He sighed but under that breath was a laughter, "Okay, I will leave you then. I will just be outside the room. If you need anything, just call me."
As I didn't respond to him, he quickly turned to leave.
I sat up as the door closed and calmed myself down. For the first time I was irritated with Luke.
I rested my chin on my knees and re-imagined the incident in the Virgin forest. And first, I wonder how I got back to Luke’s grandmother’s house.
Why don't I remember going back home?
I didn't know how long I had been in such a state. I wasn't even aware that I was really giggling when the goddess-like beauty of the stranger dragon and her smiles resurfaced in my thoughts. I only realized when a curious face of my mother drew in to observe me closely.
I slid back slightly and blinked my eyes. I muttered, "Mom, when did you just come back?"
My mother stared at me for a long time before she sat straight on my bed, and smiled, "Son, there's so many stars in your eyes. Do you have someone you fancy now?"
I coughed, “Mom, what are you saying? What stars in my eyes? What is someone I fancy? That's all nonsense.”
Luke who was chuckling in a corner fake clearing his throat to get our attention. His face flushed of holding back his laughter and said, “Aunt, that's impossible. Zorro had never met a girl. How can he have someone to fancy?”
“Yes! Dude Luke is right!” I agreed.
Mom’s brows and mouth frowned a bit, “But I never misjudged it. Look how bright his eyes are. It is far different from what it used to be. It is twinkling like seeing his most favorite food.”
I couldn't help to tap my cheeks and blink my eyes.
“Aunt, if what you think is right, since Zorro has never seen any woman outside, perhaps, the girl he fancy is in your residence.”
“What?” I was stunned. “Luke, what nonsense are you saying again?”
Luke only shrugged at me.
Mom thought about it for some seconds and nodded, “Probably.”
“Huh?” I shook my head. At the edge of my eyes, Luke was secretly laughing at me. Hmm, damn that friend. ‘Alright! You won today. Just wait! I will make you regret it.’
He seemed to have read my thoughts through my expressions as I looked at him, so he curled his lips with a shrugged again, telling me that he didn't care.
I flinched when mom suddenly placed her palm on my knee, “Son, don't worry. Whoever girl she is, I will help you get her.”
“Huh?”
“Yes!” Luke's reaction was like he won an Olympic game. “Dude, I will teach you how to court a woman.”
“Shut up!” I snorted.
Mom laughed at me, “Alright Luke! Stop teasing him. We know my boy is shy.” Mom handed me a box, “Here, get change. The doctor said, you can go home. I know you don't like staying here, so I already settled your discharge papers. We can leave when you are ready.”
“Really? Then that's great!” Atleast, there's a good thing I heard today.
“Look how excited you are. Go and change your clothes.”
I took a few minutes to change my clothes, wash my face and rinse my mouth. I also used my fingers to sprinkle some droplets of water in my shiny hair and arranged it into stylistic messy waves and disheveled crops which was my favorite hairstyle.
Seeing my reflection in the mirror, I suddenly pondered on what my mom said. I stared into my own eyes and tried to look for the stars but no matter how I widened my eyes, I wasn't able to find it.
I sprinkled the water in my reflection and mumbled, “Nevermind! Who cares about the stars in my eyes. Anyways, I am not sure if I will see her again.”
Those thoughts seemed to affect me because my heart hurt. “Why did she just leave me? Could it be she has really no impression of me even just a little? Will we meet again?”
Since she just left me like a used item then maybe, she was just playing with me. Then why not forget her! Right! I will forget her.
The knockings in the door by mom returned my senses into reality. “Son, are you done?”
I let out a deep sighed before turning to the door. My mom was about to knock and call me again when I turned it open. “I am done.”
“Then let's go home. I prepared a gift for you at home. It's waiting for you to come.” The naughty smile that curved into my mom's lips made me feel uneasy.
The whole ride going home, her words kept resounding in my head and I couldn't help but ask myself. What gift did she prepare for me at home?
