Chapter 7: Absurd Gift

*ZORRO SPARK* My mouth was wide open and my feet stuck in the doorway when the goosebumping scenario inside the house exposed before my eyes. The former dull ambiance of the house suddenly became lively and homely. Mom was always busy at work and worrying about my illness so she had no time to check on the house's ambiance and decorations but now, I could say that mom made a total transformation of it. Before, by looking at the house, I felt that it was just an empty vessel and nothing special, but now, it gave me a feeling of wanting to stay home. Feels good and looks good. But it was not the transformation of the house that stopped me at the door but the row of maids stood shyly in our wide living room, wearing beautiful dresses and make-up. What is going on? I slightly glanced at my mother who was wearing a wide smile when she also looked at me. What was mom doing? What did her smile mean? I was kind of confused today. Now, I regretted asking Luke to go home first and have a rest. I scratched my head and smiled back at mom. Then I slowly turned away to leave but she grabbed my clothes, "Where are you going, son?" I turned to her, and smiled hard, "Mom, I don't think that the air inside this house is clean. I want to go to the garden and inhale some fresh air. I can't breath here.” My mother laughed, "Don't give me that lame excuse, son. I know you are just shy and excited seeing these beautiful girls." I coughed as to what my mother said. Beautiful girls? Well, they had different kinds of beauty but these beauties weren't my type. Seeing them wearing dresses and makeup instead of normal and simple get-up was kind of weird for me and it was chilling my skin. I preferred to see them as their usual appearance. “Don't worry, son. Mom is here. I will guide you.” “Mom, why are you doing this for? What is this all about?” “I want to make you happy. I am just fulfilling your heart’s desire. Son, do you like this gift?” “Gift? So, the gift you talked about earlier was these female maids of ours? Mom, are you sick or something? What kind of gift is this? This is the most absurd gift I heard and received in my entire life.” “How can you say that? Mom even hired a makeup artist and fashion designer just to dress them up. Can you be a bit sensitive?” Mom held my arm and pointed those girls in front of me. She tugged me inside and sat me down on the sofa. Those girls in line also turned to us. “Girls, raise your head.” Mom ordered them in a pleasing tone. “Son, look at them and tell me. Who among them is the girl that you like?” I brushed my palms on my face and sighed, “Mom, I don't like to see them like this. I want their former usual self. This kind of looks, making me feel goosebumps. I don't like it at all.” “So you prefer girls don't like wearing makeup?” “I have never seen much of this world yet so I don't know but this is not what I mean at all. What I am saying is, I don't like any of them. I only see them as normal girls. Nothing much!” My mother looked at me carefully, "You are lying. Your mouth can deny it but your eyes can't. Do you know how much your eyes are telling me that you like someone? Since you haven't met any girls yet, then I could only think that she is one of our maids." I shook my head and smirked, "Most parents will tell their children not to fall in love with their maids or forbid them to fall in love early. But why- how can you be like this? Mom, are you trying to marry me off?” Mom covered her mouth and giggled, “If that is your want, then, I am more willing to grant it.” I tapped my forehead, "Mom, what should I say to make you understand, I don't like any of them." "If you want me to believe, then tell me who that girl is in your heart?" "Forget that girl. Anyway, we are different people and worlds and surely not able to meet again.” I picked myself up, and without sparing a glance to those girls, I said, “ Time of playing is over. Everyone, go back to your work. Sorry for how mom behaved.” Girls sighed, leaving a hint of  regret. Mom clapped her hands, “Go girls, it's over now.” Since mom  already shoo the maids away, I thought she was letting me go now. Only when I took a step to go to my room, she continued to say, “So you really have someone you like. I knew it. Well, I am happy for you, son. How about this, why don't you invite your girl over? I wanted to know her more.” I looked down and sighed helplessly, “Mom, she can't come.” “Why is that?” “She came from a very far place. I don't even know where to see her again.” “What?”
