New York, JFK Airport
Nikolai went to the airport with his suitcase, and Trevor came to see him off. They went straight to the hangar where Nikolai’s private plane is waiting for him. After his luggage was brought inside the plane, Nikolai turned towards his assistant.
“I received a reply from Sicily and they said they will be waiting for you with a car in the Catania airport, as it was the closest to Caltagirone,” Trevor told Nikolai who nodded.
“Okay, that’s good.” Nikolai paused.
“I will leave the company in your hands, Trevor. You’ll know what to do.” Nikolai said and Trevor rolled his eyes.
“I have been taking care of your company for the longest time while you mess around models. A raise would be nice.” Trevor said, and Nikolai chuckled.
“I’ll get going,” Nikolai said and patted Trevor’s shoulder.
Then Nikolai climbed up into the plane. Once he is inside, the door was closed by the crew. Inside Nikolai sat on of the leather seats and buckled himself in. The pilot then announced that they will be taking off.
As the planed started to move, Nikolai took out his earplugs and wore them. As the plane ascends, he closes his eyes and gripped the arms rests tight. He really hated it whenever the plane ascends and descends because of the unpleasant feeling. But when the plane is airborne, he finally manages to relax.
He took off the earplugs and unbuckled his seatbelt. The flight attendant then served him drinks as he opened his laptop and started working. For the whole three hours, Nikolai was just working on his laptop, ignoring everything around him. It’s not that he has a lot of work to do, but he was actually nervous.
He’s nervous that he is finally going home. He’s nervous and didn’t know what to do once he is in the presence of his father. It’s been so long since he last saw him; they grew apart and since he grew up in America, he is not familiar if the customs in Sicily. Thinking about it, just made him feel really tired. When he finally succumbs to exhaustion, he turned off his laptop and decided to get a shut-eye.
*******************************.
Nikolai woke up when the flight attendant shook his shoulder.
“Mr. De Rossi, we only have thirty minutes before we land.” The flight attendant said.
Nikolai nodded and dismissed the flight attendant. He then looked at his wristwatch and saw the time. He has been sleeping for the whole five hours, and now they are close to getting to their destination.
He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and he stood up from his seat and stretches his limbs. He then took his hand carry bag and went to the bathroom. There he took a quick shower and changed into more casual clothing. He wore a pair of jeans, a blue polo shirt, and white AF1 shoes.
He combed his hair and looked at his reflection in the mirror.
“No need to be nervous Nix. You are just going home.” He told himself, and then he started taking deep breaths.
Once he felt much better, he stuffed his clothes inside his hand carry bag and went out of the bathroom. He went back to his seat and buckled himself up, and put on his earplugs.
When the pilot announces their descend, Nikolai heaved a deep breath and gripped the armrest tight once again. After a few more minutes, the plane successfully landed and came to a complete stop. Nikolai let out a sigh of relief and he took off the earplugs and unbuckled the seatbelt.
Then Nikolai looked out the window and he saw that it was still very dark outside and the only light was from the tarmac’s light. He looked down on his watch and adjusted its time to Italian time and he found out that it was around one in the morning. He stood up and huffed before he grabbed his bag and went towards the exit.
As the plane door opens, the pilot approached Nikolai.
“Thank you for the safe flight. I’ll contact you once it is time for us to leave.” Nikolai told the pilot.
“Of course Mr. De Rossi.”
Then Nikolai climbed down the plane and the crew hands him his suitcase. As he gathers his stuff, a tall man wearing a black suit with orange necktie approached him.
As the man bowed his head towards him, Nikolai looked at him with an arched eyebrow.
“Bentornato, giovane maestro. Mi chiamo Revel, e il consigliere mi ha mandato a prenderti e portarti nella tua villa privata.” The man named Revel told Nikolai.
(Welcome back, young master. My name is Revel, and the consigliere sent me to fetch you and take you to your private villa.)
Nikolai who had forgotten his Italian vocabulary gaped and then frowned at the man.
“Uhm, my Italian is a bit rusty. Could you repeat that but in English?” He said and the tall man smiled at him and gave him a curt nod.
“My name is Revel, and the consigliere sent me here to fetch you and take you to your private villa.” Revel said.
Revel is one of Electra’s mercenary. He is also once a human turned reaper because of his sin in the past. He was once a village officer that likes hoarding food supplies and throw party almost every night; ignoring his people that are dying in starvation. Because of that, Death deemed him as the reaper who sinned Gluttony.
At present he works as the De Rossi family’s head of house help; to keep an eye on everything that has been happening. He is an expert fighter and judo has been his forte. He is also good in using knives.
Nikolai gave him a tight lip smile and patted his shoulder.
“That’s much better, let’s go.” He said.
Revel took his bags and he led him towards the black Rolls Royce phantom parked not too far from them. Revel opened the passenger door and let Nikolai climbed in before closing the door. Then he went to open the truck and placed Nikolai’s luggage inside. Once he closed the trunk, he went around towards the driver’s side and climbed in.
“The drive towards the villa will take more than an hour sir; you can still take a nap.” Revel said.
“Alright,” Nikolai said.
Revel then turned on the engine and drove away. As they drove towards their private villa, Nikolai pulled out his phone and sent a message to Trevor.
“Revel right?” He asked.
“Yes sir.”
“Tell me, how was my father doing?” Nikolai asked.
“Boss has grown really weak, and his doctor thinks he won’t last long. That’s why he was moved back in the private villa instead of the Rosso Manor.” Revel answered.
Hearing about the Rosso manor, Nikolai knew what it was; it’s the main headquarters of his father’s mafia. He knew about it, he actually took the time to know things that involved his father. But all he knew were the trivial things as there are still a lot of things he didn’t know about it.
“If he is on his death bed, why wasn’t I informed immediately? Who is taking care of my father now?” Nikolai asked.
“Boss didn’t want you to know, it was the consigliere that convinced him to let you know. Right now, there were several private nurses and caregivers taking care of the boss.”
Nikolai huffed upon hearing Revel’s answer. His father planned to kept his situation from him and just let him be surprised by his death. He was really annoyed by it, and he decided that he will scold his father for it. Nikolai heaved a deep sigh and closes his eyes. He decided to take a nap and conserve his energy before he meets his father.
An hour later and they finally drove in the long driveway that leads towards the old villa. Nikolai woke up once the car parked in front of the villa. The door in his side opened and he climbed out of the car.
He looked around and even if it was around two in the morning, the whole premises were heavily guarded with men in black suits. He then turned his attention towards the villa as memories of his childhood flashed before him. It has been decades since he has last seen the beautiful villa that he once called home, and now he is back. He is home.
