10 Crossroads April jerked awake, unnerved by the sense of open space around her. Being back in spin was odd enough after so long in free fall, but the bed couldn’t be softer, both the mattress underneath her and the mountain of blankets and comforters over her. No, it was when her eye opened ever so slightly and she saw no wall close to her nose that the sudden disorientation scrambled her brain. She sat up, looking around until she saw each of the walls around her, the ceiling above and the thickly carpeted floor below. It was all so far away from her on the bed that was bigger than most of the rooms she had slept in. All of this space, all for her. It felt beyond strange.
