Gina I don’t know why but somehow I was curious. The urge to find out the reason behind it grew in me. No words were exchanged between us up to our way to Mrs. Marissa’s house. No one really pay attention to us. Heck, no one even glance my way. Which I found extremely weird. At least in Mega pack you will see people conversing but here, it look somewhat down. We were met with Mrs. Marissa at the sitting room knitting. “Why are you back again?” I don’t know whether her question was directed towards me or Maria. Nevertheless, Maria answered her. “Gina is here to pick her stuffs while I’m also here to get an important stuffs of mine” “Don’t tell me you’re here just to get those books?” Mrs. Marissa asked sparing her a glance or much to say a glare. Maria grinned in return. “You know it already grandma” She asserted. I followed her up to the room. My bag was still on the same place I kept it last night. “Is that all your stuffs?” Maria asked. “Yes” Only if she knew. I don’t own that much of clothes. I have no money to buy new outfits for myself. “If you get your first pay, I will take you shopping. I know a good store in the town” For some reason, it settled well with me. Having to earn something for myself. “Are we allowed to go out?” I asked. Judging by what Mrs. Marissa told me about the rules, I don’t think going out freely would be allowed. Maria lips curved up. “I don’t always follow the rules” I couldn’t help but stared at her wide eyed. She marched her way towards the book shelves. “You know not what you see is what you know. Everyone has his/her own dark side. I’m sure you do too” I didn’t say anything because I know she’s right. Everyone do have a side to them that they don’t reveal to people. “You’ve read all the books?” I asked my eyes going to the shelves. “Yeah. I will restocked new ones soon. A fan?” “I don’t read books that much. I hardly have free time to sit and engage myself in reading” Maria nodded her head in answer. “I understand. I read them over the weekend here. Because whenever I take them to the mayor’s house, it gets stolen” Wow. What will someone gain in stealing books? Technology has changed. People read at the comfort of their phones. “But you can find tons of books online” She stacked the few she grabbed from the shelves stuffing them inside a bag. If she read them here then why is she taking it to the mayor’s house? “I prefer the traditional method” “Where are you taking the books then? I thought you said you read over the weekend here?” “Shush. Keep it low. I’m doing business with them” I watched her sauntered out of the room. Things are getting a hell lot confusing. By the time I made my way out, I found her sipping coffee. How fast. “Want some?” She offered. “No. I’m fine” I formed my lips into a thin line. “Gina whatever she do, don’t follow her. The girl is stubborn. I don’t want her to influence you too” Mrs. Marissa that was throwing daggers at Maria all the while said. “How can you say that to her grandma? She’d think I’m really stubborn” She pursued her lips forward. A chuckle escaped me at her action. “See she’s laughing” She pointed her fingers at me. “I’m sorry. I couldn’t help it. You sounded funny” I asserted covering my mouth with my palms. “Don’t mind her Gina. Don’t forget what I told you. Work diligently for your employers” The woman looked all serious. “Thank you Ma’am” “We’re leaving” Maria announced standing up. “Take care of yourselves” “We will Ma’am” Maria said nothing instead grumbling something under her breath. “Why are you getting angry? I know she was just joking” “You don’t know the woman. She doesn’t joke around. She does that only with her son” “You know, my mom passed away when I was ten. Dad doesn’t really come around. He’s busy taking care of Mom’s flower shop at the city” Bitterness was laced in her voice. “Sorry for the loss” I uttered. “It’s okay. I’m fine. My grandma is here for me” Somehow I felt like her okay held other meaning. I can relate to that. I always assured myself that I’m fine regardless of the situation. However, I know that isn’t the case. “What about you?” As the question slipped out of her mouth, I felt like a stone has been thrown underneath my chest. “They’re no more” I don’t really feel comfortable talking about my parents when I don’t remember much about them. Whether they’re alive or not. “I’m sorry too. Don’t worry we’ll all be fine” She proclaimed lunging her arm around my shoulder and we embark on our way to the mayor’s house. As soon as we entered the house, we were met with an angry Lady Hera. “She’s on again with her drama. Don’t worry yourself with that. We’re used to it” The girl she was snapping at, head was casted down. I wonder what the problem was. “If you’re not ready to do your work, the gate is open. You can kindly leave” Lady Hera said in a high pitch voice. She didn’t even notice us. Before I could open my mouth to speak up, I was dragged away by Maria who didn’t release her hold on my wrist until we’re inside the room. I dropped my bag on the bed. “Another rule: Don’t interfere when Lady Hera is in her angry mode. She will attack you like how snakes attack their prey” She does look scary. The pack doesn’t fail to amaze me. Every minute and second, you will hear a new rule. “Okay. Thanks for letting me know. What are we to do now?” “I mean the work” I added noticing the confused expression on her face. “In the next one hour or so. The kitchen head will call for our attention before then” I nodded my head in answer. I remembered Lady Hera mentioning the kitchen head. But up till now, I’ve not set my eyes on her. Maria motioned to me her drawer which was occupied with enough clothes in them. “I still have some space left. You can put your clothes there” She pointed towards the empty space. I took out the content from the bag and gently arranged them. First time I’m setting my clothes in a drawer. “Thank you Maria” I uttered offering out a smile. “You’re welcome. I will be stepping out. I got some business to do” She announced grabbing the bag she stacked the books earlier. I couldn’t help but ask. “Are you going out of town?” A chuckle erupt out of her. “No dear. But where I’m going is as good as the town. But don’t worry I’m not breaking that much rule” She added with a wink and sauntered away before I could get the chance to speak further. I was washed with silence that suddenly resonate through the room. I sank down on the bed roaming my eyes all over the place. A thought graced through my mind. What will life be in the new place? What if my parents didn’t leave me in that shell hole? None of this will be happening to me. Sir Alberet wouldn’t have found me or much to say, I wouldn’t be in a difficult situation all my life. Sometimes I used to have that thinking on why Sir Alberet took me in back then. He would’ve helped me search for them or took me to the nearest police station. I once asked him. And what I got was a simple answer. “Because you deserved that. And I know you’d become something one day” He had said. I have this hope in me that someday, I would get all the answers to my question. I would be able to find out everything about my life. I jerked back to reality when a voice sounded atop my head. “Who are you?” The girl asked staring at me with disdain look in her eyes. “My name is Gi-” “I didn’t ask of your name. I said who are you?” The tone in her voice made me crease my brows in question. Isn’t that the same as asking my name? Why do everybody want to know who I am? “I’m the new girl that will start working here” I answered as calmly as I can. “Another nuisance to the house” I heard her say as she walked towards her bed. That was expected. I said nothing instead went on to rest my head on the pillow. I didn’t get to do that when it was yanked off from the bed. “What are you doing?” I asserted looking at her in confusion. “Who gave you the permission to use this pillow?” She spat. For some second I thought I didn’t hear her well. “Maria gave me the permission” I answered back. A chuckle erupt from her. “How dare she take something that doesn’t belong to her. All you lowly thieves!” “Excuse me. Did you just call us thieves?” I asked to be sure I heard her correctly. “What are you then?” She exclaimed. I tried to calm myself from unleashing with anger. I remembered Mrs. Marissa’s words. It’s too early to start a fight. “What will you do you lowly omega” She marched forward her chest almost clashing with mine. I clenched my fist. Tightly. Holding myself back. “What the hell is going on here!” our eyes snapped to the unfamiliar voice from the door.
