CHAPTER 106

VINCE Vance beat me to feeding her. Bloody wolf even settled himself beside her on the bed on the pretext of wanting to feed her. He’s just trying to make me jealous for all the times she cuddled with me. Like it’s my fault he’s dumb enough to allow Billie change his scent. Watching her perfect pink lips open and drink from the cup sent a myriad of pleasurable feelings dripping over me. Heightened further when she licked her lips. I didn’t know when I growled and not surprised to hear Vance do the same. She just doesn’t know what she does to us. When she noticed the change in Tim’s scent, I saw her joy show on her face. Her eyes lighted up like a light bulb in a dark room. But when the conversation shifted to her wolf and how unhappy she was with Vance and I, I knew we were going to find it difficult with her wolf. “Anaya,” I whisper it in my mind, loving how sweet it is. Ares agrees with me. Though, Anaya is mad and I know why. And she should be mad at us. I just hope she will be as understanding as Nicole and forgive us. Talking about forgiveness, has Nicole even forgiven us? Not that we have spoken about what is to be of our mate bond. Though she has announced herself as our Luna twice now, but we’re yet to discuss it. Or not do so and just go with the flow. “He had to do so to save you because of the threat on your life,” I explain to her, watching her face as she processes my explanation. “But was that the only way he could have protected me?” “I don’t know, but I want to believe that was the only way he could then,” I take her hands in mine, before sitting beside her. “I am sure you know he didn’t do it to harm either you or your wolf.” Nodding, she bites her lips. “I know Alpha Drake would never hurt me on purpose.” I still can’t believe our father had imagined us getting mated to Nicole. “So, how is it going to be lifted?” “It’s simple,” Vance begins, “He just rescinds his command then commands your wolf to come out as the alpha wolf she’s supposed to be.” “Is it going to be painful?” her eyes dart worriedly between us. “Sort of,” I don’t want her to know how painful it’s going to be. “It’s like having your first shift.” “Technically, it’s going to be my first shift,” she sighs deeply, closing her eyes and relaxing back into Vance’s chest. I am pretty sure she is relieving that day. Vance and I exchange looks, unsure of what to say. “Will you two be there with me?” she opens her eyes but avert looking at us, fiddling with the bedsheet. “At school…” she looks at us then back down at the bed. “…we were taught that having your mate near you while shifting helps reduce the pain.” She looks at us now, seeking our response. Is she really asking? Vance and I share another glance. “You don’t need to ask us, brown eyes. We wouldn’t want to miss your first shift for anything,” Vance kisses her temple, whispering the words. “It’s one of the most important days of your life.” “One we would be happy to be a part of,” I finish for both of us, kissing her knuckles and holding her eyes. She nods before giving us a quick smile, her cheeks coloring. “Thank you.” “It’s our pleasure,” Vance and I chorus. “Will he do it today? Anaya says she can’t fully shift again unless it’s lifted and that’s’ the reason why I always pass out.” I can feel her excitement. Every wolf feels that way when it’s time for their first shift. Getting that other part of you is like a long waiting period finally coming to an end. As much as I want to answer her question, I also have something to ask her. I have changed my mind about this. “Nicole, before we discuss that, can we talk about something else?” Vance nods in agreement at me. We had discussed this on our way here. We need to know where we stand with her. We need to start our lives with her. “What?” she asks, folding her arms. Clearing my throat and swallowing my spit, I begin, even as fear courses through my body. “I…What…Do…” I pause, chuckling anxiously and laughing at myself for stammering. I have fought many battles, but none as scary as this. Me about to ask our mate if she is going to reject us. Though, we vowed never to let her reject us by refusing to accept her rejection, yet I find it hard to ask the question. Vance shakes his head at me, a warning not to make him do the talking. “What, Vince?” she breaks into my thoughts, touching my palm, her brown eyes filled with confusion and worry. “Will you reject us?” She pulls her hand slowly away and shifts a bit away from Vance and I. Opening and closing her mouth as if to speak. Doing so a couple of times before looking at us then away. “We made a terrible mistake, brown eyes,” Vance says, clasping her shoulders and pulling her back to him which makes her raise her eyes to him. “Give us another chance. Please.” She turns to me, holding my gaze. Her eyes travel all over my face like she did with Vance. As if searching for the truth. “Excuse me,” she says, gently shrugging Vance’s palms off her shoulders, slipping out of bed before heading to the restroom attached to her room. Vance and I follow her with our eyes as she does so. Vance groans, grabbing his hair with both hands, rising from the bed. “f**k!” Yeah, f****d up that’s what about to happen to us if she says no. “What do you think she will say?” “I am not a mind reader, dude,” I reply in irritation, as I battle mine and Ares’ emotions. Moments later, we hear sound of water splashing coming from the restroom. “Is she taking a bath?” “How am I supposed to know, dummy?” I half yell at him. “Ughhhh!” he groans further. “Please, moon goddess, don’t let her say no. I know I have never prayed to you before, but I do so now. I need Nicole to say she forgives us,” he whispers as he paces about. I offer mine too to her. We need her to say yes, she forgives us. “Maybe we should ask her to let Anaya out so Ares and Axel can speak to her,” Vance suggests. “The same Anaya that is mad at us? Are you listening to yourself?” “Her wolf and our wolves are mates, they have a special connection just like we do with Nicole. If they can convince Anaya, maybe she can convince Nicole.” He’s making a lot of sense. Our wolves could reason with Anaya. Or on the other hand, Anaya could reject her mates, refusing to listen to them. “It could backfire.” “We have to try it to see if it would work,” Vance counters back, trying to convince me. “Let’s wait for her and hear what she has to say and stick with it,” I say, laying out what needs to be done. Whatever her decision, we stick by it. No pressurizing or manipulating her. “So, if she decides to rejects us, we should just let her go like that?” “No, we don’t. We respect her wishes but let her know we aren’t going to give up on her.” Just then the restroom door opens and Nicole comes out, spotting a determined look. “I need my own clothes first. Secondly, I need to speak with Torin. Thirdly, I want the command lifted,” she reads out in a strong and confident voice. Vance and I look at each other then back at her. “Why do you want to speak with Torin?” Vance asks. “None of your business,” she replies in a curt voice, raising a brow at him.
