~Noah’s POV~

I didn’t know it will be that bad. One week. My mate completely ignored me for a week.

I never knew any woman out there has this much self-control on herself. It was never difficult for me to have any woman with me but Serena is different. Maybe because of her past, but I don’t know how she can resist the mate bond for so long. She is challenging.

“Like you were showering her with love. You never made any move towards her.” Duke scoffed.

"Yeah, that’s true I didn’t make any move to talk to her, but I never ignored her,” I replied.

Duke huffed and said, “You always maintained a straight face whenever she was around. What do you think she must have thought?”

I never thought that. Maybe she thinks that I am not interested in her.

“She thinks? You made her believe that you are not interested in her by f*****g Vanessa.”

“Don’t read my thoughts, Duke.”

Duke rolled his eyes, “I am a part of you, how can you think that I don’t have access to your thoughts. I know them very well. Do something Noah. We can’t lose her. Do something before it’s late,” and shut the link after that.

Taylor mind-linked me, “Alpha I’ll be starting Serena's fight practice today. She will fight with Leah.”

“Why Leah? Serena is not ready to fight Leah. Leah is one of our best fighters. Choose someone else, Taylor.”

Taylor replied, “I thought a lot about that alpha. Anyone else is not fond of Serena yet. They don’t trust her. What if anyone tries to take practice to another level, especially female fighters? And yes, Vanessa said something to them about Serena. I don’t know what it is but it’s not good. That’s what I’m sure about. Everyone trusts Vanessa more than Serena and Leah is the only one who is Serena's friend and hates Vanessa. She won’t hurt her.”

Vanessa is spreading bad words about Serena? Why?

I need to dig more into this.

I told Taylor, “Okay, Leah and Serena it is. When you’ll start their practice?”

Taylor smirked, “Want to see your mate fighting alpha? Their practice will start in 20 minutes in the gym. See you there.”

Asshole.

I don’t know why Vanessa is talking badly about Serena. Did she find out that Serena is my mate? But how? Only Taylor knows about this. Or did Serena say something to anyone? I don't think she will tell someone.

“Ask Leah and Kade. They are her friends.” Duke suggested.

Leah is her friend but if she knew anything about this then she must have said something to Taylor and he would have told me about this. I will ask Kade.

I mind-linked Kade, “Taylor told me that Vanessa is spreading bad words about Serena, do you know anything?”

“Yes, Alpha. Almost a week ago Serena accidentally bumped into Vanessa. Vanessa insulted her and Serena replied accordingly. She was about to say something when I interrupted her and made her go back to the training grounds. Since then, Vanessa is spilling bad words about Serena.”

Insulting my mate and then spreading nonsense about her... You are in trouble, Vanessa.

I know why she is doing this. I am ignoring her. She tried to seduce me many times but now her seductive style doesn’t work on me. She is nothing in front of Serena, whether it’s beauty or heart, she can never match my mate's level.

I reached the gym and noticed several pack members were present there. Usually, the gym is not crowded this much at this time as everyone stays at the training ground. Guess they are interested in Leah and Serena’s fight. They bowed to me and my eyes landed on Vanessa. She gave her famous smile but shrink back when she saw my hard looks. She looks scared and now I like it this way.

After a few minutes, Serena arrived. She was looking hot in a white tank top and black gym shorts. She made a bun with her long hair and her eyes were sparkling. She looks better than before.

I smiled at her but covered it fast when I noticed that Vanessa and three other women were whispering about her being a rogue and having a big mouth.

I mind-linked them, “Thirty laps of training ground, and then two of you will clean the garden area and the other two, swimming pool.”

They stared at me in shock.

“But why alpha? We didn’t do anything.” Vanessa said.

“You all didn’t follow my instructions. I told you clearly that Serena is a part of our clan and nobody will call her rogue. But you all dared to defy my words. Now face the consequences.”

Vanessa tried to continue but I growled in the mind link. They shivered and said, “Yes alpha.”

I smirked knowing that all three of them are now angry with Vanessa. She tried to turn pack members against Serena now they will be against her, amazing.

Taylor told them the rules and they both started circling each other. Leah looked like she was about to catch her prey. I hope she won’t give her injuries. I can’t see her with injuries again.

Serena dodged her attack and kicked her. I smiled, she is focusing on defending herself rather than attacking first. Leah was using the misdirection technique that my father told us. She kept giving wrong directions to Serena but to my surprise, Serena easily got away with her attack and elbowed her. Leah ran in her direction but Serena was way too fast for her. She kept running in the ring until Leah got tired.

Then she punched her two times and Leah fell in the ring and Serena caught both of her hands. Alright... Now I know why Taylor was surprised by her speed. She is very fast.

Everyone was shocked including me. Along with being shocked, I'm proud too. My mate won over Leah, who is one of the best fighters in my clan and my mate is someone who just started her training, she defeated Leah. Duke was purring in my mind seeing his mate winning.

I called off that fight. I praised Serena for giving Leah a tough fight and told Leah to train more. Leah asked her how she managed to do that and she simply replied that she watched her father training the pack members and he also told her some tips to defend herself. She looked proud and happy when she was speaking about her father but Catherine ruined her mood by insulting her father.

Serena was angry. She took a step in her direction but I caught her arm before she could have done something that pack members wouldn't have liked. I felt sparks and tingles spreading into my hand. If holding my mate's arm feels like this then how I will be feeling if I will scoop her in my arms and will never let her go? How amazing that feeling is going to be.

I came out of my little dream and told Catherine to apologize to her and she did as I said. Serena was thinking about whether she should accept her apology or not but she did what I wanted.

I dismissed everyone and left. I went to my floor and saw Vanessa standing outside my room.

“What are you doing here?” I asked in my alpha voice, I was in no mood to handle her tantrums.

She said, “I think I know what’s wrong alpha. That girl, Serena is the reason why you are ignoring me. Since she came here you stopped seeing me. Are you interested in her now?”

Duke and Taylor were right, I shouldn’t have got involved with her in any way. She is becoming nosy.

“Think whatever you want. I am not answerable to you. Leave.”

I said and moved into my room but she caught my arm which angered Duke and me both.

I growled loudly, grabbed her throat, and pushed her against the wall. My canines were out and my eyes were changing their colour back and forth. Duke was fighting for the dominance.

I said, “Don't you dare touch me again. Try to touch or question me like this again and you are gone. Don’t TEST ME.”

I left her neck and she started catching her breaths. She said sorry alpha and ran away.

“You should have killed her,” Duke argued.

“You know I can’t. She is a member of my pack and no one knows that Serena is my mate.”

“Then why don’t you tell them?”

I growled and punched the wall, “You know why, you know why I am not accepting her. Stop forcing me. I don’t want anything to happen to her.” Duke went silent after that.

I took a long shower and lay on my bed for a while thinking about everything that has happened to me since my mother left me. My life drastically changed after that and all credit goes to my selfish mother. She was not a good mother nor a good mate. She is the reason why I don’t believe in mate bond.

What if Serena turned out to be like her? I won’t be able to live with that. I don’t know anything about her. I need to find out more about her.

I should talk to her to get more clarity about everything. With this determination building up in me, I left my room and went towards her room.
