Ottilie POV
The morning light made me stir, I’d obviously forgotten to shut the curtains properly the night before. The gap in the curtains had let a streak of light through and I watched the dust dancing through it. I remembered how I would do this in my tiny attic room just a couple of weeks ago, so much had changed in such a short space of time.
I lifted my head from Harry’s chest and watched as it rose and fell with each breath. I don’t really know why I asked him to stay and watch a film with me. The damn mate bond made it impossible to stay away from any of them. Harry had treated me appallingly, I still hadn't forgotten what he'd said to me at school but yesterday he’d seemed different. There was a vulnerability about him that hadn’t been there before.
His eyes snapped open. “Are you watching me sleep Princess?” He said sleepily, smiling slightly.
“No I just…”I said quickly before realising he was teasing me, “Oh ha bloody ha,” I said sitting up and punching him lightly on the chest, “and don’t call me Princess.”
He growled rolling me over and pinning me down so he was on top of me, his hands holding my wrists down. His eyes swirled back as he struggled to get control of himself and a familiar feeling crashed through my body, every part of me on fire.
“I’m sorry,” he muttered, pulling away.
“It’s ok,” I whispered, Ariana whimpering as he moved away from me. We both lay there awkwardly, the air thick with tension and my arousal which he could clearly sense, his hands clenching the sheets either side of him.
“I’m going to shower,” I muttered, swinging my legs out of bed and all but running to the door, “enjoy your birthday party,” I said over my shoulder before slamming the door behind me and resting my head against shower door in a desperate attempt to cool myself down.
I showered quickly, I was catching up with Lucy and I was already late. Leaving the bathroom wrapped in a towel, I was surprised to see Harry still in my room, sat on the end of my bed like he was waiting for me.
“What did you mean when you said ‘enjoy your birthday party’?”, he asked, looking up.
“What I meant, I hope you have a great birthday,” I replied, shifting from one foot to the other. I didn’t really want to have this conversation.
“You’re coming though right?”
I looked up at him, his eyes were beginning to turn black as he anticipated my reply.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea, your parents will be there, Tanya, the whole pack and then what happens at midnight when everyone realises what we are to each other? I just think it’s better I stay away, maybe we can do something another time, the four of us?”
His eyes swirled to black and he stood abruptly, the muscle in his neck twitching.
“I don’t care what the pack thinks,” he said, obviously trying to stay calm, “or my parents.” He marched towards the door, “we want you there Princess, you deserve to be there.” He marched out slamming the door behind him. I sat down on my bed and put my head in my hands trying to figure out how I was going to get out of this mess.
Jamie POV
My mum had finally got on with organising the celebrations for our birthday party but it was obvious she wasn’t happy about it. There was a fight brewing, Mum and Dad weren’t going to go quietly which meant we would have to challenge them for their leadership.
The large room we used for functions had been decorated in gold and black, the ceiling filled with balloons of the same colour. The bar in the corner looked well stocked and the DJ was setting up in the corner. I was chatting with one of the omegas about the plans for the evening when Harry stormed in, shirtless, making the females in the room swoon. Ignoring them he came up to me, his eyes blazing.
“What’s up?” I asked. “How was it last night?” I’d given Harry a bit of a talking to after Mum had attacked Ottilie. If we weren’t careful we were going to loose her and just the thought of it filled me with pain. Harry to his credit had taken it and had gone to her room with his tail between his legs.
“Yeah fine, look did you know Ottilie was planning on not coming this evening?” He said furiously.
“No I didn’t,” I said, my heart sinking a little. “Did she say why?”
“Something about not wanting to be around the Pack. I thought we were making progress but I just don’t know.” He rubbed his eyes, still oblivious to the hungry stares from the female Omega’s in the room.
“I’ll speak to her,” I said, steering him out of the room so we couldn’t be heard. “You know what will happen at midnight if she is our mate though? Everyone will know and I don’t think it’s going to go down that well.”
“I don’t give a s**t,” he replied defiantly, clenching his fists. “Going against the Luna is punishable by death, nobody would dare touch her.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it,” I said darkly, “Tanya’s been walking around with a glint in her eye for a while now, she’s planning something I can feel it.”
Harry looked grim, “talk to her, she has to be there.” I nodded, watching as he stalked off furiously.
A few minutes later I was knocking on Ottilie’s door, I could hear the sound of laughter coming from inside and an unfamiliar scent. She opened the door warily. Her hair was up in a messy bun, soft tendrils falling by the side of her face. She was dressed simply in tight black jeans and a linen shirt that was undone a little too much for my liking. Something silver flashed across her chest, it must have been another scar. She looked beautiful, my breath hitched as I drank her in.
“Hey,” she said softly, “all ok?”
I raised my eyes to meet hers, the last time I’d seen her she’d been so angry with us but now she looked calmer, less furious.
“Who’s here,” I asked, as casually as I could. She swung the door open to reveal a she wolf that I hadn’t met before. She immediately dropped her eyes and bowed her head, “Alpha Jamie.” She said respectfully.
“This is Lily,” Ottilie offered.
“Hi Lily, sorry can I steal Ottilie away from you for a second.” I asked. She nodded and Ottilie followed me out sighing heavily. She leaned against the closed door, waiting for me to say something.
“Harry said that you’re not coming tonight?” I asked softly, “Want to tell me why?”
“I told him why. The pack HATES me, your parents despise me, why would I go to something where quite literally everyone wants to rip my head off?” Her eyes began to flash from green to purple again. "I've had enough drama over the last few weeks to last me a lifetime, I just want to live my life in peace."
“We really want you to be there,” I said firmly. “We promised that we’d protect you Tills, nobody will hurt you.”
“What about what I want? You can’t protect me the whole time and the pack isn't going to change how they feel about me any time soon.”
He looked at me speculatively. “You can bring Lily,” he said suddenly. “Would that help? If you had a friend there?”
“I’ll think about it,” she replied after a pause, brushing the hair out of her eyes where it had fallen forward. “That’s the best I can do.”
I nodded as she opened the door to go back in.
“Thank you Ottilie,” I said, “you look beautiful by the way,” I added, catching her off guard.
Her cheeks flushed. “Thanks,” she muttered as I walked away from her, resisting the urge to bundle her up into my arms and kiss the living daylights out of her.
