Damon POV
It really wasn't a very pretty story. Despite my feelings about Noah and his brothers I couldn't help but feel sorry for them. They didn't know what it was to grow up surrounded by love and kindness, maybe I would have turned out like them if I'd had their parents, who knew.
"What do you think Miranda," I said, turning to her once he'd finished. "Can we trust him."
She nodded slowly, not taking her eyes off him. "He's telling the truth," she said softly, to our surpise she leant forward and picked up his hand. "But you need to heal Noah, you might think you're ok but you've witnessed a lot of trauma in your life and you're only 18. You and your wolf will need to reconcile with that one day."
He nodded slowly, not breaking eye contact with her until she stood.
"You need to follow me Noah, there's something you should see."
*********
Noah growled when he saw Ottilie in her bed. "What the hell happened, what did you lot do to her?"
I snarled loudly, making the doors and windows shake. "What did I do? How f*****g dare you Noah, after everything you and your family put her through?!"
"Why the hell is she lying passed out in a hospital bed then?!"
"Enough," said a voice softly, I looked down to see Miranda's hand on my arm, "you two need to stop behaving like a couple of meathead Alpha's and start thinking like her mates."
Noah looked at her open mouthed before shutting it quickly and nodding. "Sorry," he said reluctantly.
I nodded back not trusting myself to say anything. Miranda smiled at me before turning back to Noah.
"We're not 100% sure Noah but after hearing your story, I believe that Ottilie fell into her coma the same time that Harry fell into his. Their souls seem to be inextricably linked and I truly believe that one cannot survive without the other," said Miranda softly. "You all are, as to why, well I have my suspicions, but the longer she is apart from your brother, the more he will deteriorate and chances of her ever waking up will be small.
"What do you suggest?" I whispered.
"I'll need to speak to Alpha Harry's doctor but I think the best option would be to move her to your pack Alpha Noah. Harry's injuries are obviously a lot more serious so we can't move him. Ottilie is less of a risk."
I didn't like it but I could see her logic. Noah looked at me with quiet desperation, fully aware that the final decision would sit with me.
"Please Damon, I know you hate us but please, I cannot lose my brother."
I didn't say anything, I didn't want her going back there, it didn't feel safe, she had never been safe there. I walked out of the room, slamming the door behind me.
My mother was waiting outside of the room, she'd been there every day since Ottilie had gone into her coma.
"I don't know what to do Mum, Noah wants Ottilie back, he needs her to save Harry but if she goes back there and something happens to her I'll probably end up killing everyone."
"Oh Damon," she said softly taking my hand, "I don't think you have a choice. If she doesn't go, Ottilie could die." I looked at her surprised. "I was listening, I might be a bit past it these days but my hearing's still pretty good."
I smiled slightly, "I know she has to go, I just don't know how I'm going to keep from ripping their heads off when I get there."
"Hmmm," she rolled her eyes at me, "maybe I should come with you."
I was shocked, she hadn't left Dad's side in years. "What? Why would you do that?"
"Well your Dad isn't getting any worse, he's not getting any better either but maybe he could move into the hospital whilst we're away and if anything changes it wouldn't take me long to get back. You need someone who knows how to keep you calm and who knows a bit about the lion's den you're about to walk into."
I wasn't convinced that was the real reason. Mum wouldn't even wash her hair if it meant being away from Dad for more than a minute but I decided to let it go. She had a habit of keeping things close to her chest and if she wanted me to know, I would in due course.
"Ok Mum, I guess you can come with me. Come on, we had better tell Noah before he spontaneously combusts."
************
We left the Blood Moon Pack in convoy whilst it was still light. The pack had faced increased attacks over the last few days so I'd left Jake behind as my number 2 but Sophie had insisted on coming with us. It was touching how much of a connection she felt to Ottilie after such a short time of knowing her. Noah had insisted on coming in the ambulance with me and Ottilie. He'd tried to take her hand but noticing the glare on my face he'd stopped, settling instead for gazing at her with a mix of adoration and concern. I suppose I was doing the same. My chest felt heavy, I still didn't really know if I was doing the right thing by taking her back to the hellhole she'd escaped from.
"Thank you," said Noah suddenly. "I know this wasn't easy, I promise my parents won't go anywhere near her though. My mum's locked in a cell and my Dad's lying half dead shackled to a hospital bed." He looked down at his hands and despite everything, I started feeling sorry for him again. "I love her Damon, she's my mate, she's our mate, I can't help it."
"You've got f****g funny way of showing it," I said fiercely. "She escaped from you all Noah, we're meant to keep out mates safe, protect them at all costs and instead you bullied her and let your pack destroy her."
He looked haunted at my words. "We'll spend the rest of our lives making up for it, but you can't keep her to yourself. You have to let her decide what she wants."
I didn't say anything but I knew he was right, I just didn't want to face it.
It was dark by the time we arrived at the Silver Fang Pack. I got an odd feeling as we approached the center of the pack, an unsettling feeling, something about this place definitely felt off.
Jamie came rushing out of the medical centre to meet us with one of the doctors. He embraced Noah and gave me a quick nod, "Damon," he said.
I nodded back, I didn't know Jamie that well but I knew he was the oldest and he had always been the most standoffish whenever we'd met before.
"We need to hurry," said the woman that had rushed out with Jamie, "we don't have much time."
Noah's face paled and the three of us raced after Ottilie as she was wheeled into the hospital.
