Amy's POV
It's been four years and a few months since we left Pleasant View. I couldn't believe that Chase surprised me by renting a house for us in Alaska. It was always a dream of mine to visit there, and he made that come true! We stayed there for a month and decided to travel the whole United States. Every state we would go to, we got a job at a diner. I was always a waitress, but Chase's cooking skills got him a job at a fancy restaurant a few times. We always told the bosses that it would only be for a month. A lot of places didn't like that fact and would turn us away, but others welcomed us with open arms.
We would make sure to only rent places that had a month to month lease. We didn't want to commit to an apartment or house for a whole year. At least not until we were done with our travels, which brings me to the present.
The last state we are visiting is Pennsylvania. We are in a small Amish town and I already love it!
Chase's POV
I saved Pennsylvania for last because Amy has been talking about living on a farm in a country setting. I did some research and think I found the perfect place for us. From the look of her gorgeous, smiling face; I assume she likes it so far!
The house we are renting is an old farm house with 2 acres of land. There's also a HUGE barn, which saves me the hassle of having to build one.
Amy's POV
After settling in the house, we decided to take a walk around the new town. We always worked in the food industry, but I want to do something different here. The idea came to me when we passed an old looking school house. I love anything related to education and I also love children, which makes me want to be a teacher.
"Hey, Chase?"
"Hmm?"
"What do you think about me becoming a teacher?"
"I think that would be a wonderful idea! You are the smartest person I know and have such patience with children. At least from what I've witnessed at the diners."
I giggled at that last part. He's not wrong though, some of these kids I've met while working were extremely rude or just didn't know how to behave in public. I'm always calm and patient with them. The parents always apologizing for their children's behavior.
"You can work elsewhere while taking classes online to get your Bachelor's degree. You're almost done anyway."
"Thank you for always being so supportive." I say as I give him a kiss on the cheek.
"Oh! Look! A library!"
"Let's go get you a card my dear." Chase responds with a chuckle.
Chase's POV
I look over at Amy reading and can't help the smile on my face. How did I end up with such a brilliant, beautiful woman? I think back to the day I met her in Pleasant View and everything we endured in that town. I thank god everyday that we never got caught. Jane was listed as a missing person, which I can only assume Henry reported. Elizabeth wasn't very close to her mother, so I doubt it was her that noticed the disappearance. I feel bad for Henry because he was always such a good man. However, in a twisted way, I feel like we saved him from Jane. One wrong move and she probably would've added him to her kill list as well. Amy and I never asked where her father's body was put, but no body would be found I guess since nobody is looking for or missing him.
"Chase, are you ready to go?"
I was so lost in my own thoughts that I didn't notice Amy even walk over to the front desk.
"Yes, let's go."
I hold her hand and as soon as we walk out she jumps on to me, giving me the biggest hug ever.
"What has you so happy darling?"
"I got a job!!!!!"
"What?! Where? When?!" I was with her this whole day. I think I would've noticed her stopping to fill out an application or sit for an interview.
"The library! While I was checking out my books, the librarian and I got talking a little bit. She mentioned that she was retiring soon and thinks I would be the perfect fit!"
"That's wonderful news, Amy! congratulations! This is the perfect job for you!"
"Thank you! Now, let's go home. I'm hungry and could also use a nap."
"Sounds good to me."
