"Happy birthday, beautiful" I hear a dark, cold voice whisper in my ear. My eyes shoot open and I take in my surrounding. I'm on my bed in my old room back in Pleasant View, with my father hovering above me. Goosebumps form all over my body and I feel my chest restricting from the panic attack that I'm surely having. I open my mouth to scream, but no sound comes out. His hands starts to caress my face as he says my name. "Amy"; the voice starts to sound like Chase and that's when I wake up.
I'm drenched in my own sweat, being held tightly in Chase's muscular, safe arms. He kept cooing at me, rubbing my back and telling me that it's okay, it was just a nightmare. Relief floods me and I start to feel a little better after drinking some water. Looking over at the clock, I see that it's four in the morning. Sleep is out of the option though. I'm wide awake and afraid to fall back into that nightmare.
"I'll make us some coffee, does that sound good?" Chase asks me. I feel bad for waking him up, but I like that he's going to stay awake and keep me company. I simply nod my head in response.
"I'm going to take a quick shower and then I'll join you." He asks if I want company and I throw a pillow at him with a giggle. He smirks and says he'll be in the kitchen.
After my shower, I make my way to the kitchen. Chase is standing next to he table with a coffee cup in each hand. He hands me mine and asks me to make a wish. On the table is a small cheesecake with a candle in it. I fall in love with the man more and more each day. I make my wish and blow softly on the candle. "Happy birthday, Amy"
"Thank you" I reply with giving him a passionate kiss.
The rest of the morning was filled with us cuddling on the couch, watching chick flicks. Chase didn't complain once, even though I'm sure he wanted to. It was almost eleven when the door bell rang, making me jump out of my skin. "Relax, Amy. It's probably Elizabeth and the family." He was right, standing at the door was my best friend, her husband, and two daughters. She engulfed me in a huge hug and started singing happy birthday. Frank and Chase were already in the living room, putting football on and popping beer cans open.
"Don't you have work today?"
Chase looks at me with a quizzical look before responding. "Oh, yeah. I'm going in at two. Don't worry, I'm going to walk there. Just going to have one beer."
I didn't believe him, but I let it slide. I'll grill him later on the subject. For now, I want to focus on having a fun girls day.
Chase's POV
As soon as the door closes, Frank bursts out laughing. "You sure didn't think that through, did you?"
He's right, I didn't. I'm sure Amy didn't believe me either. "Oh, shut up" I laugh back with him. Truth is, I was going to work today, but after Amy waking up in a panic, I decided to close the shop for the day. Plus, I have much to get done before she arrives back.
Amy's POV
Arriving to the mall, Elizabeth insisted we go to the lingerie store first. Rachel and Betty were quick to grab a shopping basket and fill it up with bra, undies, and cute pajamas. They were looking at lingerie when Elizabeth shot daggers at the two. "I don't think so young ladies. No s*x until you're 30." The two started laughing and whispering to each other before laughing even more. "Okay, mom" They said innocently, in unison. It took a lot for me to hold back the laugh I wanted to let out. Elizabeth started picking out a ton of outfits for me and I'm sure I was blushing. I've never gone lingerie shopping with anyone other than myself. This felt strange, having my friend pick up outfits she knows I"m going to have s*x in.
After that store, the girls insisted we go dress shopping. I asked what for, and they said because it's my birthday. I didn't pay for a single thing which bothered me a bit. Elizabeth kept on insisting that it's my gift and she's happy to do so. We wore the dresses we bought the rest of the day, which I didn't mind. It made me feel really pretty.
Rachel and Betty started to complain that they were hungry, which I was too. So, we stopped at the food court inside the mall and grabbed something to eat. There was a group of teenage boys at the table beside us and it was obvious they were checking the girls out. They didn't even try to be discreet, which I thought to be quite amusing. Before we got up to leave, one of the boys handed Rachel his phone number on a napkin. Elizabeth was quick to snatch it and smirked at the boy who was handing it over. "Oh, I'll call you alright." She blew him a kiss and threw the crumpled up napkin into the trash bin as we departed the area.
The look on his face was priceless as his friends were laughing loudly. "Mom! That was so embarrassing!"
They both started whining to their mother. She simply ignored their statement and asked them if they wanted to get nails done first or hair. They didn't seem to mind the change of subject as they started beaming about getting their nails done first. This was all new to me, I have never had my nails professionally done before. I decided on the color orange, which came out looking marvelous! Afterwards, we got our hair done and finally headed home. My feet were killing me, but it was worth it. I had so much fun today with my girls. Chase should be home from work soon, so then we can all go out for dinner or something.
When we arrived home, something seemed off. Firstly, I could hear music coming from the backyard and people quietly talking. Not just anyone, but Chase and Frank. They shouldn't be home for another hour and why were they listening to slow, romantic music? Don't tell me he's gay. I started to panic. I don't want to lose Chase, I love him so much. I'm dragged out of my thoughts by Elizabeth gently shaking my arm and calling my name. "You okay?" She asked, looking concerned.
"Yeah" I simply replied, not knowing what else to say.
"Come on, let's see what the men are up to." Apparently she wasn't thinking the same way I was or she would be in a panic as well.
Rachel and Betty went through the gate to the backyard first, and I was stopped by Elizabeth right before we went. "Close your eyes." I hesitated before allowing her to blindfold me. I trust her though, so I went along with it. Maybe it's a surprise birthday party? It has to be. That would make more sense than our men having an affair with each other. I let out a small giggle at myself for thinking such a thing.
The music was still playing, but it got turned down a bit. Everyone stopped talking and I was getting fidgety. I felt someone take the blindfold off and I could feel the tears start to surface. We were inside the barn, with lights on strings illuminating the area. The most romantic part about it was Chase in front of me, down on one knee with a small box in his hand.
"Amy, I have loved you since they moment you walked into the diner all those years ago. I want nothing more than to love, cherish, and protect you for the rest of my life. You bring me so much joy and I can't imagine my life without you in it. Would you make me the happiest man in the world? Will you marry me?"
I dropped to the floor and tackled him in a hug, and poured all my love into that one kiss.
"YES!!!!"
Our friends started clapping and cheering for us. This is by far, the best birthday I have ever had.
