AVERY'S POV:
I woke up around noon, rolling out of bed, cracking my neck, my wrists, my ankles, and finally my fingers. I could still the bit of tingling each time I did that. I walked to the bathroom, turned on the water and grabbed a towel from the sink as it warmed up a bit.
I got under the spray, letting it flatten my hair, roll down my spine and I tried not to think about what I had been dreaming about. Although, it was an amazing alternative to what I used to dream about. No more heavy gear, no more screams and people begging for their lives. No... last night I had a dream about a cute little lady begging for something much more pleasurable.
"Avery!" I jumped when I heard Jackie and I moved to shut the water off, knowing I would need to get back in and finish having my shower. I wrapped the towel around my waist and opened the door to see her just now entering my room. "Hey! I've bene calling you for 20 minutes."
"I just woke up. Why are you calling me?" I moved to close the bed up and she crossed her arms and glared at me. I've known my sister my entire life, and she's bossed me around and raised me for as long as I could remember, so I knew, right now, the look I was getting.... meant I forgot something.
I got the same look in 5th grade when I forgot my tie at home and my little graduation ensemble, she put me in was thrown off. I knew that wasn't the case this time since I wasn't wearing anything.
"You going to just glare at me? Or tell me what I'm missing?" I asked her and she took a deep breath.
"You had your fitting this morning. Remember?" She asked me and I shook my head. And then it hit me. My tux, it was supposed to be almost ready for her wedding in March. I sighed. It wasn't even Christmas yet.
I rubbed my temples and tried to crack my neck again. "I do remember now. However, you know I have been a little busy, it simply slipped through the cracks." I told her and she looked a little less mad and I looked around. "Let me finish my shower, get dressed, we can go to lunch and then you can come see the work I have done at the club."
"Ok. But if one stripper tries to give me a private dance, I am going to punch you so hard you'll bruise." She told me and I laughed. She had such a backwards thought process of strippers. I don't think of the girls that works at the club would try and proposition her, let alone me.
Besides, it wasn't a stripper I had been dreaming about.
I got back into the shower, washed my hair, washed my body, washed my face. I got out, drying off, getting some dark jeans on, a black button up, and then I headed down to the kitchen where I could smell fresh coffee. "How did you get here?" I asked knowing I didn't see the jeep she uses in the front yard.
"I walked." She shrugged and looked away like she knew it was a bad thing.
"So, Lucien dropped you off at the café, and you just walked here?" I asked and she nodded. "By yourself?"
"I am an adult. I am older than you Avery. I don't need permission to come and get you when you miss something, I set up for you." She told me and I sighed and rubbed my forehead. "So... where are you taking me for breakfast?"
"Somewhere on the way to the club." I told her knowing I always spot a couple places on my way in. "Let me tell Marcus that you stopped in and I forgot an appointment for the fitting." I told her and she nodded and sipped her coffee. I shook my head as I pulled out my phone, hit his number, and then waited as it rang.
"Marcus Allen."
"Hey, it's Avery. My sister just dropped in and told me I missed an appointment for a tux fitting. I am going to go and do it now, I should be in around 1 or 1:30." I told him looking at the clock on the oven.
"Alright. I am sure I can handle things here on my own. If something else comes up just let me know." He told me and I agreed, told him to be safe, and then hung up before I saw Jackie narrowing her eyes at me.
"What?"
"Are you two friends yet?" I rolled my eyes. Marcus wasn't a man who had many friends. He was kind of distant. He didn't know me well enough to say we were friends.
"He's a brother of a club. He just got here and took over the club. he's not just going to hug me and call me his friend." I told her and she shot me another look. I need to learn how to keep my thoughts to myself.
"He's a brother, but he's not your friend? That's fine. We can go and hang out with him all day." She decided and as much as I would live to groan and roll my eyes, I figured, if we acted busy, she would leave us be.
I got my cut on, grabbed my keys, and we headed out on the bike. It took 7 weeks of me riding again after getting my license for her to even trust me with it. It was easy to drive now, and with her grabbing my sides, I chose the one diner that was close to the club, not the closest though. She was driving me nuts when I went between cars.
"Do you do that s**t with Lucien?" I asked her as I pulled off my helmet.
"Do what?"
"Act like I am going to crash." I told her, put the helmet on the back of my bike as she did the same with hers. I shook my head as she went ahead of me. We walked in and I looked around, hoping there would be a booth open, but I couldn't help but smile wide when I saw something way better than just a booth.
"Over here." The hostess called and waved us over and I smiled wide as I saw her turn, her skirt rising just a bit as she got some menu's and turned towards us.
"Hi there." I smirked at her surprise face.
"Avery." She smiled softly, her cheek still swollen, but thankfully not bruised.
"Who did that to your face?" I shot my sister a look that she either missed or ignored.
"An ex-employee." I told her and Gemma looked down and away. "This is Gemma, the bartender for the club."
"Hi." She waved at Jackie before looking away and at the booth. "Please, sit, I will get you fresh coffee as you look through the menu. Enjoy your date." She set things down, waving us in, and she turned to get the coffee before I could correct her.
GEMMA'S POV:
I felt ridiculous. I knew he was a player, but to have one of his women kind of parade around here... he did seem genuine when it came to seeing me, so I wouldn't say he was showing off, but I was just sad that my guess about him was right.
I plastered a smile on my face as I walked back to them, setting down the mugs and hearing their conversation about her being sore, and I blushed, filled their cups, and quickly told them that I would be back when they were ready.
I went into the back, saw one of my other tables order almost ready, so I stuck around until all four plates were up. I smiled at the cook, shouted a thanks, and headed to the table, handing out the big plates to the men at the table I turned and saw Avery watching me with a smile.
"Hi, ready?" I wanted to interrupt before I heard anything else about their activities last night.
"Yeah, I think I will have the double pancake special." The woman told me, and I nodded, writing that down. "Scrambled eggs, bacon, and with white toast." She added before I could ask all of the regular questions.
"Jesus Jackie, are you pregnant?" I felt my stomach drop. Had I been flirting with a man with a baby on the way? Oh god I started to hate myself a little bit.
"Shut it Avery." She pointed at him and I was left wondering if that was a sore topic. Did they have more than one kid together? "Order."
"I'll take the French toast platter, sausage, over easy eggs, and sourdough toast." Avery smirked at his girlfriend and then smiled up at me. He really shouldn't smile at women like that when he has a pregnant girlfriend sitting across from him.
That cut off all my infatuation. How could a man with a baby on the way flirt with someone, even if it was right in front of their baby mama? All men were the same.
I rolled my eyes as I turned and walked towards the kitchens. I made sure to call it out, and I went to get new orders, filling coffee mugs, and making sure that everyone was taken care of. I smiled, at everyone. Even Avery and his girlfriend.
I walked over and set down the food for them and that was when I saw the ring on her finger. I left with short words and a stiff smile and walked away. Heading to the bathroom and splashing a bit of water on my face before covering it up. I kind of felt sick to my stomach.
I walked out and smiled, seeing that it was almost time for me to be off, I went and tallied up my last couple tickets, and as I started to drop them off and see if there was anything else I could get the customers... I overheard them.
"I want Lucien to be in awe of my dress. You'll be walking me down the aisle as my little brother."
"Not dad?"
"Why would I ask that man to do anything for me? He's doing the military contracts and he doesn't even think he will be in the states for the wedding." She told him and rolled her eyes. "I mean seriously... he tried for 2 weeks to be in our lives... and then boom, we bored him, and he just went right back to his sandbox."
"Jac- he's our dad. He never had to raise us. You raised me. You took care of both of us." I heard Avery tell her, I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was trying to calm her down like he had done with me last night after I was panicking in the bathroom.
I had to admit, it was a relief that they weren't engaged, they weren't dating, they weren't even sleeping together. They were siblings.
I walked over after adding up their bill and smiled. "I am clocking out soon, this is your bill. If I am still here, I will ring it up-"
"Headed home then Gemma?" Avery cut me off and I nodded. "Did you talk to the manager here to see when you can get the times changed?" I shook my head.
"Not today... they'll be in tomorrow. I don't work then, but I will call in and see when I can talk to them." I told him and he shook his head.
"Don't go out of your way on your day off. Just let me know when they pull back your hours. Marcus is taking over the bartending in the morning, he had more experience than some of the girls."
"Why didn't you ask Tara? She's been a bartender for years." Another woman's name... great.
"Maybe if we can't find someone to pick up some shifts. Besides, Gemma is willing to do more hours."
"The club pays better." I chipped in and smiled. "I have to go and get some dishes done before I leave. Have a good rest of the day. See you later." I told Avery and made a quick escape. Just when I thought I was in the clear... there was another woman's name just being thrown out there.
